  1. Bobby Burton Administrators 2.2k Posted 3 hours ago I'm headed over to the University this morning for the media window that begins as 9am. Here's a quick what-we-learned from week one: - Silas Bolden will have a significant role in 2024. Expect Bolden to win the punt returners job and expect him to find a way into the rotation as a receiver. "Fearless" has been the way some have described the diminutive transfer receiver from Oregon State. - Ryan Wingo is better than advertised. He has continued his ascent and did not hit the freshman wall over the summer. - Trey Moore is making lots of plays. But he doesn't look like he should. He is clearly the smallest of the Texas edge players. - Texas is trying to manage the secondary to get their best 11 on the field. That means Jaylan Guilbeau has seen the majority of starting action at nickel with Jahdae Barron potentially filling a role opposite Manny Muhammad at one cornerback spot. - This has the makings of a really good transfer class. If I'm guessing who would be drafted first among the transfers, I'd maybe pick Amari Niblack at this point over Isaiah Bond. Niblack has looked like a major weapon early in camp. - The Texas WR room has the most depth I've ever witnessed during my time covering or following the Longhorns. - The Texas QB room is ridiculously talented. Go back ~10 years and my guess is Trey Owens would be pushing to start for Texas just like David Ash did. Yet now he's comfortably third string and can bide his time. - Gavin Holmes is not going to give up the starting corner spot to Jay'Vion Cole willingly. Holmes put in some real work this off-season and it shows. - Anthony Hill appears to be taking the next step as a leader and true middle linebacker. Multiple coaches are high on him and think he has not only the physical skills but the mental aptitude to pull off leading a defense. - Derrick Williams is poised for a big season. In fact, the entire Texas sophomore class looks like it could be one for the ages. They are that talented across the board. More after today's practice. Hope everyone has a good week!

  4. Self loathing Blacks. Gotta love em. When I was growing up I remember looking around and the community was so broken. I remember being so angry that we didn't pick ourselves up by the boot straps. Then I did the required reading and starting seeing how there were obstacles intentionally placed at every turn and it all started to make sense to me. I read about the run on black owned anything as soon as the Union soldiers cleared out during reconstruction. I read about Debt Peonage. Jim Crowe. Racial Covenants in property deeds. Redlining. Nixon's War on Drugs. Reagan's War on Drugs. Mass Incarceration. Now when I drive through poor areas I see the highways cutting through. I see the lack of corporate investing. I see how even though they are in the same county, the tax dollars find a way to clean the trash on the side of the road in some neighborhoods over others. What I don't understand is any educated black person who did the required reading, shrugged, and went on to grifting for a check. How can you hop in front of a camera and embarrass your entire family and heritage like that? Even if you actually believed the things you said, you know damn well why you are being propped up. It's okay to believe but don't let people use you against your own people to say the things they can't say about your community. It doesn't bother them to log onto twitter and see a snippet of you saying something posted by some hillbilly saying, " see...he is one of the good ones".

  8. A couple monday thoughts: 1) The bad guys are cheering for a stock market collapse, but this doesn't feel like there's a structural crisis. It feels like higher interest rates have served their purpose. Expensive stuff doesn't keep getting more expensive forever and cheap stuff doesn't stay cheap. The business cycle is undefeated, gravity is real and that's OK. 2) The rapid escalation between Iran and Israel is alarming and we passengers, not the driver. An air war is a real possibility and if it happens will cause untold human suffering, in addition to impacting our politics in unpredictable ways. Hope for peace. 3) The VP pick has been entertainment, but the truth is that the options are all good provided there aren't massively problematic facts about the choice that the Harris team isn't aware of. 4) I continue to believe that the 6-7% of the population who will decide this election will begin to move and coalesce as a group across all 6 battleground states (and the rest of the country) in one direction or the other by late September, meaning that there will be a clear winner with 300+ EVs on election day, by midnight on the East Coast.

  15. I know I've posted on ND 2024 on the boards, but you asked, so here are one guy's thoughts about ND, their ranking, and ATM. Notre Dame has NFL guys all over their defense. It's the strength of the team, they return 8 starters plus a 3 year starter transfer. They have an All American NG in Howard Cross, an AA candidate at LB in Jack Kiser, and a 1st AA in Xavier Watts at S. They have a high returning CB who will play in the NFL. They're going to be really good on defense and Freeman knows how to handle that side of the ball. On offense, they bring Riley Leonard, who is quite good if he's healthy. This will be the opening game, so you have to like the odds of Leonard opening the game at full speed, same as Weigatron. They actually have sure-handed talent that won't scare anyone at WR and the typical ND TE in Mitchell Evans. They lost both tackles to the NFL and this will be a source of focus heading into the season, although ND knows what they're doing with OL development. ND's ranking, outside of halo effect, is also a by-product of one of the weakest P4 schedules in the entire country. The ATM game, along with USC and FSU games, is a must-win game. For ND to get into the playoffs this year, they're not going to be able to lean on the depth of their schedule. They're going to have to be able to lean on being 11-1/12-0 and they could do that. So the ATM game is pretty fucking important for them and they're going to know that. As far as the match-up, the biggest part of it is probably coaching. Freeman is a proven buffoon when it comes to in-game coaching. The Elk's HC prowess is buoyed by one of the more laughable schedules ever in 2022 in which Duke went 9-4 while never playing a ranked team. Last year, tubby went 1-4 against ranked opponents with the season opener against Clemson being the big win. Can this guy actually win big as a HC? There is no evidence for that yet. ATM's front 7 against the ND OL and TE will be in ATM's advantage. Leonard and the WRs against the ATM secondary could be an actual strength for ND. ND's front seven against the ATM OL is the most brutal match-up in the game. ND's secondary also being really fucking good doesn't help. Finishing up making a short story really long, you guys that are starting to/itching to predict an ATM victory over ND aren't looking at the actual rosters and match-up and falling prey to media sloth regarding ATM's talent levels and the myth of some major home field advantage for the aggies. ATM stands a terrific chance of opening the season 1-2 after losing to ND and @ Florida.

  17. This has been my assumption as well. People will begin paying attention again after Labor Day (as is traditional) and you will see polling switch to likely voter screens Harris should sustain her 2 week rollout bump, VP bump and convention bump + debate bump (if it happens) / some likelihood of a solo townhall if the debate doesn't happen - think we could settle into a Harris +4-5 by end of September with good sized leads in PA/MI/WI/NV and tossups in GA/AZ/NC Trump will further continue to freak out and flail as the polls continue to move away from him. He went from cocky favorite to currently pure tossup territory and soon will be the underdog. Harris has the edge with double haters and, while she is the current VP, I think she will coalesce undecided voters/late deciders as the "change" candidate (i.e., younger) - especially as she is neither the incumbent POTUS nor a former POTUS. Trump can't really run on being the change candidate/fresh new ideas when he has a 4 year record already As the poll of Latino voters shows, she has a lot more upside - her favorability with women, black voters, Latino voters and younger voters give her the edge Still feels to me that Harris' likely EV win is between 276 (PA/MI/WI/NV) and 319 (+AZ/NC/GA). Even if its 276, I would think her wins in the blue wall + NV will be strong enough to be seen as "untainted" by everyone but MAGA and her losses in AZ/NC/GA would be miniscule.

  18. I'm not embarrassed to say that seeing and realizing that American leaders like Walz actually exist legit brings a tear to my eye. He's smart. He's no-nonsense. He's decent, and motivated by the right thing: public service to make a better future for EVERYONE (not just his "team," not just people who like/praise him, not just people who contribute to his campaign....EVERYONE). That's it. That's the recipe. That's how you actually make a city, county, state, country...great. I've seen public servant leadership like that in recent years, but almost entirely on the local level. And yeah, they get shit on by the MAGAs too. Even the conservative/Republican types (yes, in conservative states, there are still a FEW conservative local leaders who are genuinely motivated by the idea of serving the public). But to see a person like that end up on the national scene, when we desperately need a cultural re-set in the direction of belief in the common good....I won't say I'm optimistic (I'm never optimistic, hope is poison). But I will say that I'm pleased, deeply. I'd be over the moon if he's the VP pick. If he's not, I really hope that he maintains a prominent role in the campaign, and maybe the administration if she wins. Because we need people like him setting the tone. Enough with the weird. Enough with the mean. Enough with prizing and rewarding HURTING people. It's time to make the turn towards "making helping people great again."

  24. This will become the norm. There's another decent surge coming from DNC official nomination and the Obama's getting out there. Getting back to even was huge, now it's time to keep going and push trump down to low 40s high 30s.

  26. not sure who this falls on, but a Dem higher up needs to sit down fetterman / far left / the squad and read them the riot act. this isn't about being to close to the center and further left, it's about beating trump. this is a fight for the future of this country. trump 2025 is all laid for all to see, he's going to gut this country and leave a shell of what once stood. save the infighting for after the election win
