  1. My daughter (no pics) just turned 18. When i asked her what she wanted for her birthday, she said, “one thing: to register to vote”. She and her friends are fired up. And although I’m far from the best dad in the world, it made me proud that maybe I did some things right.

  2. https://www.statista.com/statistics/1416130/share-of-us-respondents-who-consider-themselves-taylor-swift-fans-age/#:~:text=Share of U.S. respondents who, fans in 2023%2C by age&text=According to the results of,or older stated the same. This doesn’t include kids who can’t vote, but her biggest chunk of fans are millennials. News flash, they can vote. She’s been performing for almost 20 years. Women who were teenagers when she sang country have literally grown up with her. Anecdotal: my wife is 43, my sister in law is 45, and they went to see Taylor together. And my SiL has been signing her to her 7 year old for awhile now. Her fans are introducing their kids to her dude. Did you think her endorsement last election was a big nothing-burger? Then why the fuck is the right so triggered?

  3. Can please for the love of god no one say “it’s over” until sometime around January 21, 2025?

  5. Here's something I found that I think is really interesting. If you go to https://kamalaharris.com/ and click the "Events" link, it sends you directly to this page from the Democratic National Committee: https://events.democrats.org/. Honestly, this screencap doesn't do it justice. There are dozens and dozens of events, which you can filter and sort a number of different ways. Whether you want to see her schedule, join a phone bank, attend an in-person or virtual meeting about messaging, join up to knock on doors, attend a rally... it's all there. Then I (in incognito mode) went to Trump's official site and clicked on the "Events" link. Oh. Well that's not good.

  6. The Harris campaign will not get cocky. I'm not worried about them taking their foot off the gas at any point. But the goal should be to BLOW HIM OUT. That's why all that talk of needing to nominate Shapiro because he gets you a 1% bump in PA pissed me off. Don't just win. Win big. Win everywhere. Show everyone in this country that we are officially done with Donald Trump. Sneaking by with a close victory is not enough.

  7. Mr. Holden said that he called Mr. Brown to compare notes. Mr. Brown told him he had never been in a helicopter with Mr. Trump. “I said, ‘Willie, you know what? That’s me!’” Mr. Holden said. “And I told him, “You’re a short Black guy and I’m a tall Black guy — but we all look alike, right?” Mr. Holden gave his own height as 6-foot-1. “Willie has to be about 5-foot-6. Maybe 5-foot-5. He comes up to about my shoulders. And he’s bald. And I’m not bald.” Mr. Brown, he said, “just laughed and laughed.” Mr. Holden, summing up his assessment of Mr. Trump’s recollection, said: “I just think he makes things up. That’s what I think. He never thought anybody’s going to check.” … Asked if Mr. Trump might have confused the two California politicians because they are both Black, Mr. Brown said, “I wouldn’t want to conclude that he can’t tell Black people apart, because I’d hate for him to think that I’m Beyoncé.” And then he burst out laughing.

  9. Las Vegas, Nevada Following the endorsement of Harris-Walz by the LULAC Adelante PAC, today LULAC gave Nevadans a presentation on Project 2025 and the impacts on the Latino community. Some of the impacts mentioned during the presentation: •Mass deportations •Cutting off legal immigration •Making federal funding & benefits contingent on immigration laws •War on reproductive rights •Welfare cuts •Dismantling the Department of Education •The repealing of vital protections for Latino-dominated industries •Refocusing environmental policy away from climate change •The ending of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives During the next months, LULAC councils say they will focus on: •Active voter registration, targeting young Latino voters •Implementing strong get-out -the-vote strategies (door knocking, mail-in-ballots, and early voting) All in effort to mobilize the Latino community in Nevada.

  11. Quinn just threw the TD pass in Tuscaloosa to AD to begin the fourth quarter and put us ahead. Is there a lot of game left? Yup. Am I still nervous as hell? Yep. But damnit I’d rather be in our shoes than the other side right now, and it’s okay to be happy for that.

  12. TexAgs is predictably handling this all quite well: End universal suffrage or the masses will vote us into socialism and then communism. Letting every idiot vote was the real issue. They outnumber us. It is just math at this point.

  13. My daughter turned 18 last week and she’s filling out her voter registration card today. She’ll be at the University of Oregon this Fall, but will vote via mail. It won’t make much of a difference, but we’re doing our part to help Texas turn blue violet purple magenta not so fucking blood red.

  15. Nate Cohn One way to think about her position is that she has become something like a “generic” Democrat. This might sound like an insult, but it’s really not. In fact, nothing is more coveted. An unnamed generic candidate — whether it’s a Democrat or a Republican — almost always fares better in the polls than named candidates, who are inevitably burdened by all the imperfections voters learn about in the process of a campaign. When we polled these three states last October, an unnamed Democrat led Mr. Trump by around 10 points, even as Mr. Trump led Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris by about one point each. The upside of a different, broadly acceptable Democrat was purely hypothetical, of course. There was no guarantee that any real-world Democrat could avoid alienating many of the voters who would prefer to vote for someone other than Mr. Trump. And there was certainly no reason to think Ms. Harris would be such a Democrat, as she was viewed unfavorably by a majority of voters and brought plenty of political baggage from her tenure as vice president and her failed 2020 presidential campaign.

  16. Harris isn't the movement. The movement is leading her. People want something new and different. She seems to realize that and is rising to the occasion.

  17. I’d take it. Although I will never support a right wing party again, it would be great to return to the days when Republican victory did not mean the imminent demise of American democracy.

  20. So, some posts on social media denigrating Walz’ military service really upset me, badly. I’m the son of a disabled vet who passed many years ago So, instead of blasting all the Trumpers publicly, I personally messaged each one with thoughts about why denigrating military service is unacceptable. I don’t know if it will do any good but it did wonders for my mental health.
