Mr. Michelle Obama was great as usual, but Michelle's tribute to her mother and connecting those values to the greatness of the fabric of this nation and Kamala and Tim, and her call to action to close out her speech was some of the best, most impassioned monologues I've ever heard. You could feel her pain of what Trump has afflicted on this nation and democracy that she has such reverence for. I may not have realized this before, but in the post-Obama world, I've felt as a child born in the US with two immigrant parents that this country is somehow not mine and slipping away from me. Fuck these people for making feel like that. Watching Michelle speak today gave me a little of that pride back. I'm an American and I love this country. Thank you Michelle, thank you Kamala, thank you Tim Walz, thank you Rev. Warnock, thank you AOC, and so many others for the words many of us needed to hear these past two nights and the weeks since Biden stepped aside.42 points

i looooove everything the democrats are doing to beat any neutrals/republicans over the head with the fact that tim walz is an actual everyman, just like them, unlike that cheeto colored billionaire whose got his name in gold letters on top of a skyscraper in manhattan. football, hunting, auto repair, teaching; THIS is your candidate who relates to you, who understands your struggles and needs, and who has proven that he can affect change in a great number of different, but important areas. tim walz is who the republicans were pining for when they decided to go full cult mode for donald trump. well, they’ve got their guy now, and the democratic leadership is doing everything they can to make sure these voters know it. let’s hope that enough of these people open their eyes to notice that they’ve finally got their guy in the race. walz is the perfect candidate for this time and place. we are not going back.33 points

There's a difference between conservatives and alt-right MAGA conspiracy-addicted clowns. Well, there used to be at least.24 points

I have no proof, but I think the Dems have consulted with psychologists about how to mentally destroy a malignant narcissist.24 points

I am still stunned and pleased with how the Democratic Party has absolutely CRUSHED it since Biden dropped out. They are hitting on all cylinders everyday. Last night at the DNC was unbelievable. The production was top notch. When roll call started with the cheesy DJ, I think most of us groaned at first. But then you realized it was just a joyous and energetic occasion. They turned the most fucking boring party of a convention into a dance party. Incredible! I'm not a rah rah Democrat. I've been very cynical about the party apparatus, particularly over the last 10 years. But I'm happy to admit their instincts are absolutely on point right now, and I get the feeling that it wasn't only Biden that stepped down a month ago. The old establishment finally let the younger generation take the reins within the party itself. And it's firing on all cylinders. Keep it up. This is amazing.23 points

Transcript: Money quotes: How novel! Decrease abortions by enacting ACTUAL "pro family" policies! This would require a pretty big shift in how the GOP views things, unfortunately.21 points

Aww, man—you got me feeling like Gus Walz over here. But sometimes you can’t go home. Sometimes it’s because what was your home is gone. But sometimes it’s because you found a better home elsewhere. And sometimes, it’s both. Trump burned it down, and the MAGAts salted the earth. But in so doing, they kind of showed me that my former political home was actually pretty shitty, and filled with a bunch of pretty shitty people. And when you don’t view the world through partisan lenses, you figure out that a lot of what the Democrats say is…shock of my life…right. There isn’t anything to go back to, but even if there was, I’m pretty good where I am. I’ll never be a Republican again; I’ll never even think of voting for one.20 points

My kids have never looked at me like that. I guess they aren't impressed with my coaching UT to 5 consecutive Championships in CFB 25.20 points

Wes Moore just got the attention of a ton of Veterans when he kept saying 75 days and a wake up. That’s how we counted down to going home during deployment.20 points

Its hilarious that people think this board is liberal. This board is intelligent and rejects nonsense. Orangebloods is legitimately the polar opposite and the actual worst place for longhorn anything. There's a reason everyone has made Ketchum a pariah and why he's the only media org I won't toss a bone or include in any of our NIL initiatives/activities/interviews/etc.20 points

Comparing the benches between the two parties, it’s abundantly clear just how bad maga has almost completely drained the gop of intelligence and talent. Or at least the smart ones have distanced themselves19 points

Oprah owes us all free cars or something for unleashing us Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz.19 points

the two sides “disagree”. right. your side has left the gas on and set the house on fire. our side thinks we should call the fire department and evacuate the surrounding area. your side “disagrees”, and would gladly watch the entire neighborhood go up in flames if it meant “owning the libs”. we are not the same. there are not fine people on both sides. not in this discussion. your party and its people have become radicalized, idol worshipping zealots who are beyond saving. you are the aggie corp of cadets, larping as soldiers, squeezing your nuts, pulling your swords, and jizzing in jars. but because of the insular nature of the echo chamber that you live in you’ve convinced yourselves that you’re the normal ones and that it’s everyone else who’s lost the plot, not realizing that every sane, normal, non-radicalized person in the world looks at you and sees the biggest collection of self important dorks, weirdos, and pathetic psychopaths who live in a fantasy land where patriots try to destroy democracy and where christians hate the ooor and the sick and live to worship false idols. holy run-on sentence batman, you fuckin weirdos have got me worked up.19 points

"Fiscal conservatism, Covid, Israel" aren't positions, I asked for specific positions. You are proving the argument for me. Instead of engaging on policy discussion when asked you are waving your hands and running away. In your mind this will be added to the pile of times you claim you were shouted down when what is really happening is you aren't proposing or discussing anything of substance. And having some posters call you names and disagree with you doesn't mean the whole board is like that. It means you're too sensitive if a handful of assholes makes you feel like the whole forum is ganging up on you. But this is how it works. People come to the Cloak Room either unwilling or unable to discuss things then run away and claim people were mean to them.19 points

You're completely wrong but confidently so, at least you've got that going for you. A very large percentage of this board are conservatives (i.e., classical liberalism adherents). The issue is that the current GOP is not conservative. It's a cult of personality with the lovely features of authoritarianism and with plenty of fascists starting to work their way into positions of power. Those things are the exact opposite of conservative ideals. Words have meaning. The fact that you mistakenly think in 2024 Democrat = ultra liberal and Republican = conservative doesn't make it true.19 points

My mom was a huge fan of Obama. I remember her whispering to me at a family lunch "I voted for Obama, he reminds me of JFK." My sister took her to vote and tried to pressure her into voting for McCain. She really loved Obama, hearing him speak reminds me of my mom.18 points
