  1. Hey a quick point of personal privilege: I buried my grandfather last year at DFW national cemetery. He was 100 years old. He had been dead for over two years, so it wasn’t like a surprise and he was 75 years away from the war. But stil, man. You’ve heard it 1000 times but then you are sitting there and they say “On behalf of the President of the United States, and a grateful nation, please accept this flag as a symbol of our appreciation for your loved one's honorable and faithful service” and then they hand you the flag. It really gets you. I mean, you realize and fully appreciate the gravity of the place, and what was risked, and why. And for whom. my point is this: fuck JD Vance.

  6. My first thought exactly. If beat reporters with integrity and any guts still existed, this would be a question at Vance's next availability: "Senator, after Vice President Harris rebuked your campaign for the incident at Arlington National Cemetery you said she can go to hell. The United States Army has now rebuked your campaign for the same incident. Is there anywhere you think the US Army should go?"

  7. The biggest loss here is the pilot. There are plenty of aircraft to go around. Ukraine only has so many qualified pilots. That said, you can't deploy a combat resource and expect a zero loss rate. This was going to happen. It will happen several more times as well.

  10. Yeah... This isn't to keep illegal immigrants out that come in through New Mexico. This is to keep Texans in Texas and not let them leave, especially for things like weed or abortions.

  11. This shit amazes me. It's damn near the fucking opposite to what I've been attractied to my entire life. Fucking losers. Load and Outspoken, and refusal to be a fucking servant walflower are literally top of the list of shit that turns me on...what a bunch of fragile pussies who can't handle being challenged.

  16. I am also particularly vexed by that whole event. I’m surprised at the depth of my feelings. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.voanews.com/amp/us-european-commission-affirm-commitment-to-deter-putin/6501272.html That young man in the photo rising from his chair to greet the COC is my son, and this photo was taken within 24 hours of my own father’s military funeral. In fact, I was at the dias glancing at the back of the sanctuary until the last possible minute, hoping that the CG of the 82nd had approved his request for emergency leave and that he would appear just in time for the ceremony. 2 weeks ago at Ft. Liberty (Bragg) I pinned railroad tracks to his headgear in front of his colleagues and the brigade commander. You can see the kid’s resemblance to his grandfather at 5:50 of this video. Fuck J.D. Vance and tfg. Has anyone else already started mentally scripting their reaction and relief when orange man is finally gone? I’m thinking of taking a break from the internet.

  19. I've visited Arlington formally, but one of the most powerful and moving moments of my life was an early summer afternoon 20+ years ago. We had flown to Washington where my wife was to perform the wedding of one of her best lifelong friends. The wedding was at the Fort Myer Old Post Chapel at Arlington (see circled red spot below). We were there the afternoon before the wedding for the rehearsal. I wasn't in the wedding, and wasn't needed at the rehearsal. So I walked out of the chapel, and wandered south into the cemetery. That is a very old section of the cemetery (one of the original sections), with row after row of headstones of civil war dead. The trees are just as old, with broad canopies covering most of the area. Most of your walk is in shade, with some dappled light breaking through. Stone after stone. And so many without names, a "soldier known but to god." After seeing another, and another, and another, I stopped at one. I stared at the stone. Under which rested a son, perhaps a brother, a father, and surely a friend to someone. Who, 140 years ago, had died in battle, and never known again after that day. Nobody knew to visit him. Nobody knew who he was, so those who loved him could never know where he was. In these 140 years, had anyone stopped to visit his resting place? Almost certainly not anyone who knew him, who loved him, who felt his loss personally. Had anyone stopped to take a moment to let the depth of his sacrifice wash over them? Maybe yes, maybe no. So I did. His grave was only one I stood at, and said a prayer at. I stood there for a long time. I felt the warm but slight breeze, pleasant enough there in the shadow of the trees. There were rows upon rows. There's no way to honor each of them individually. That realization felt overwhelming, and heartbreaking. So we honor all of them. In a place of quiet dignity. I walked back to the chapel and sat in the back as I waited for my wife to finish the rehearsal. I looked at the pew back pocket in front of me. In it was a program for a memorial service that had been held the day before for one of our dead from the (at that time) still new war in Iraq and Afghanistan. It was a hell of a reminder of how the line of sacrifice and loss is unbroken. I didn't take a single damned picture that day. Because that's not why I was there. That's not why you go there. If you want to know why I hate Donald Trump -- and I mean it, I hate him deeply and viscerally -- this latest incident is a really good explanation.

  20. i am going to begin with the words of the brilliant and gifted spencer hall, who everyone should subscribe to: TLDR: i have no idea. i think we go 9-3 because elko is a smart guy and the floor is significantly raised, i think this roster has more talent on it than people realize, and i am first and foremost a fan, which means i am willfully, blindly optimistic about collin klein, even though the jury is very much out. speaking of collin klein, i think he is clearly the biggest delta of this whole ordeal. there are those that think he is running bill snyder's 2004 greatest hits, and those who view him as one of the brighter young offensive minds in college football. he is about to be running an offense in the most difficult defensive conference in america with a decided lack of playmakers*, speed or highly ranked players at the skill positions and a qb who threw 119 passes last season. let's fucking go. (*holding out hope for noah thomas). qb: weigman is whatever you want him to be right now. great pedigree, decently natural thrower of the ball, reasonably accurate and pretty tough when not getting rolled up on. can he stay healthy behind the ol, and how often does klein feel like he needs to run him as an easy button? tons of upside here and in the current world of college football, great depth with marcel reed and jaylen henderson. ol: i think history will judge me gently when i went all in on steve addazio being recommitted to football. last year was so absurd that between scheme and talent this group will surprise and be mediocre. trey zuhn is a passable left tackle another year removed from the knee injury, coaches love bisontis at guard, nabou or faaiu should be an improvement on bryce foster falling down at center and contrary to ctj's desire for reed-adams to be a jayhawk casualty, the guy is a very competent guard. i do not for the life of me understand what has happened to ruben fatheree and the fact that crownover may be starting is concerning. g-c-g should be solid, rt cannot be a turnstile. another place klein should be helpful is not calling for these guys to hold blocks for 7 seconds each passing play. rb: leveon moss is a talented guy. needs to stay healthy because behind him is amari daniels, who was really fast his sophomore year of high school 40 pounds ago, and ej smith, who does all the little things right except gain yards when handed the football. maybe bussey gets some snaps, whatever. this room goes as moss' health goes. wr: yikes. i really like noah thomas and there is potentially something there. other than that . . . jahdae walker reminds me of the juco guys i got excited about circa 2001, jacob bostick couldn't get on the field in the worst college offense of all time, moose muhammaed will have 12 catches for 171 yards against lsu after not playing for 6 weeks, and cyrus allen and micah tease are supposedly very fast and can't catch. jabre barber will be useful if he returns from injury. evan stewart is going to win the biletnikoff and i'm going to cut myself. te: they're pretty big and can block and kind of slow. coaches really like tre watson, we'll see. donovan green looks like a shell of his freshman self, needs another few months to heal, supposedly the swedish guy is coming along, will be interesting to see how much 12 and 13 personnel gets run here. i'm as bullish defensively as i am skeptical on offense, i think mike elko is a really, really solid defensive coach and if he's calling your defense, you're going to be sound, a pain in the ass in the red zone, and make the qb's life annoying. dl: there is still a ton of talent here and should be far better not doing whatever the fuck dj durkin reverted to. nic scourton is getting hyped by people not usually prone to hype, shemar stewart looks great, there are six reasonably athletic defensive tackles assuming brownlow-diddy really exists and i think the biggest difference between the jimbo/elko groups and this year is the ability for cashius howell, malick sylla, etc to be used off the edge - those pieces didn't exist for him last time. this should be a very fun, very productive group. lb: taurean york is a very solid college lb. can we find another 1.5 alongside him? have to make this work somehow. if york goes down it's not good times. shout out anthony hill, you big jerk. cb: along with klein, i think the other biggest determinant to the year - one can squint and see a rotation of tyreek chappel, bj mayes, will lee, dez ricks and see a jump in both talent and production from last year. maybe bravion rodgers and jayvon thomas make a 2nd year jump. maybe riley leonard throws for 350 yards saturday. crazy low floor, pretty high ceiling, what could go wrong. s: this is an underrated room. bryce anderson and dalton brooks are going to be a very good duo, and capable of covering far more ground than any of the thumpers rolled out there the last few years. good depth as well. some fun depth options if elko wants to get creative. st: we have a good punter again. hopefully bussey is ready for the spotlight at returner. please get moose the fuck out of there. this team is going to crush unders, sit on people from the defensive side, not allow anything over the top and generally play some rc slocum style football. in this era of football, can this group of skill position talent score enough in those games you have to have 28, 31, 34. who knows! fuck nd.

  30. I’m sure many more OU players are Trumptards compared to you all, but both schools alums are way behind matched up vs most typical SEC fans. Jesus these people are a beating. Tried to check out SECrant and it’s mind boggling how many are openly proud of the confederacy and all its glory. And they’re serious. There’s certainly many a fool here that will vote for Trump but it all pales in comparison. Still fuck anyone voting for that POS regardless of their college allegiance.
