So, sometimes you get smack talk in this post. Sometimes you get talk of beatings we are going to lay down. Sometimes you get hype. Occasionally, you get nerves and excitement. This time, something different. Going to talk a little about what college football means and getting older… Once upon a time, football was a way for me to be involved with other people and act like a normal person, growing up. It was how I related to my grandpa and dad and uncles and stuff like that. They wouldn’t want to talk about current events, or how the world works, or history or economics or faith or other stuff I was interested in growing up. But, we could always relate to each other over a football game. Later in life, it became a reason to go “home”, a reason to call or text my friends. I always had a much better pulse on my friend group from August to January- when we text each other during game week about what would happen or game watching, and throw in stuff about engagements, marriages, weddings, divorces, pregnancies, births, jobs, achievements and the like. Relationships that go into hibernation for much of the year become normal again during the football season. It could be a reason to travel, cut loose, drink, enjoy yourself and put aside responsibilities that turn you from a normal person back into the care free life that you put aside when responsibilities became more pressing. Now- as I get older, it’s a chance to show my kids the world, build memories that will last forever etc. I always say baseball with its day to day is like background music and a soundtrack to life in that year. Football, however, acts like a calendar that marks years and seasons and the passage of time for me. I love it and getting to take my baby and last child to her first game ever was and seeing the wonder and awe in her face throughout the trip was as good as anything I’ve ever done. That’s how you turn a glorified scrimmage against a shitty ULM team into one of the best gameday experiences of my life. This is the last time anyone will ever have to indulge my navel gazing asshattery in this space. Seeing our glorious leader @immamacat the tailgate with his 4 year throwing the football was cool as he’s doing that same kind of thing. On to next week against Mississippi State as the SEC kicks off. They are terrible and we should win convincingly. Then, it’s bye and OU in Dallas which is normal UT fare. I don’t believe we will have our first “welcome to the SEC” moment until we host Georgia. Klan aggy doesn’t interest me any more than corn aggy, or dust bowl aggy ever did. But it’s coming and it’s going to be awesome. MSU game week stuff happens here. Enjoy this ride fellas. here’s my daughters first game pregame:78 points

Pinch me right now as I couldn't be happier with Sarkisian and his staff. It's a long season and we haven't really faced any adversity yet on the field, but I want to express my appreciation after we've been wandering the college football desert for the last 15 years. - I love that our Head Coach is also our OC/playcaller. There is so much turnover with coordinators around college football, and it can really stall a program when you the next guy doesn't work out. Look at OU's situation right now. Look at Kansas and others. We have the most player friendly and NFL ready offense in college football, and since Sark is the architect, the best HS QBs and offensive recruits will always want to play here. - We are handling the timeline with Arch Manning perfectly. We stress DEVELOPMENT and PATIENCE. And the public perception is important too. Nationally I think everyone respects how we're handing the QB situation. That rules. Haters wanted this to be a public debacle and controversy. Sorry, fuckos. - We have kept most of our staff together. My guess is Flood and Kwiatkowski are not guys looking for a HC job. Flood has been there done that, and it seems like PK is a lifer at DC. Maybe I'm wrong. Nansen looks like an amazing hire so far. We might lose Tashard Choice at some point and that will suck, but what a sweet job opening that Sark could easily fill. - Recruiting's been great. We used to lose out on the Ryan Wingos and Colin Simmons and Anthony Hills of the world. We actually develop our players, which is something we struggled with even during the Mack glory days. Texas football at this moment feels actually good for my health. What a world.26 points

In this short season, Aggie already has the Best Loss, the Best Win, AND THE BEST TRAP-GAME WIN FOLLOWING A BEST WIN!26 points

OU has absurd injury issues at this point. -They lost Dolby (cheetah starter, kind of like a bad version of Barron) for the season and maybe ever with a dislocated ankle. -Burks left the game and is rumored on their 247 board to have a season ending issue. No idea if valid but the dude is hurt with a lower leg injury and that nullifies his overrated value. -Anderson severely reinjured his quad and may be done for the year. -Anthony isn’t playable because he’s a shadow of his former self. -Tatum has a neck injury or concussion or both. -Terry has a vagina and has now been helped off the field more times this season than they’ve played games. It’s hilarious. -Jayden Jackson has a shoulder injury. -Danny Stutsman has a weird head injury that causes him to disappear from within 5 yards of the LOS in big games. Dude had 3 tackles last night and Tennessee literally ran the ball 50 times. -Oh and now they’ve sunsetted their previously perceived savior at QB for a true freshman who looks like an Alex Orji starter kit. Venables wouldn’t commit to either QB in the postgame press conference and might be cooking up a divisive QB controversy if we’re really lucky. If I’m Arnold’s helicopter parents, I’m pulling him from school now and connecting with the folks at North Texas regarding guarantees for next season.24 points

This will either be my last game with only one child or my first game with a 2nd child. Either way, I will be sober and tired.22 points

“And that App State team with all of that experience was really good too!!” They went 6-6 and weren’t invited to a bowl.17 points

No it wasn't. That's a coach trying to help his team gain some confidence by doing something big against the #1 team in the country. I had no problem with that. Did you just want him to kneel the ball like a pussy? A good coach doesn't do that.17 points

"The guys Georgia, Alabama, and Texas have on the field make our guys look like Group of 5 players." Yes, but also they look like G5 players because they are G5 players.16 points

Mississippi State is easily the worst team in the SEC. They can’t run, they can’t pass, they can’t tackle, and they can’t defend the pass for shit. They adore Jackie Sherrill and his clown obsession. These idiots think cowbells are innovative and intimidating. ULM has better personnel at multiple positions compared to these redneck dipshits. Texas wins by more than 50.16 points

I did you all a favor and read through the aggy wishcasting rants. You won’t believe this, but, in sum, Michigan is a horrible football team that lucked into beating USC and Bowling Green is an experienced and talented football team that should not be overlooked.15 points

And they still can’t tell the difference between the bags they were dropping under Jimbo and actual NIL. Hilarious. Fucking rubes.15 points

It seems to me that that when we criticize Russians for not doing more, we do this seemingly without considering that our lives in a western country with western cultural values - and western protections from horrific government abuse - are completely foreign to the Russian people. Russia made sure that the Russian helicopter pilot who defected to Ukraine was assassinated in Spain. It does not enter our minds that if some family member violates a law - that the state will take it out on the remaining family members as a means of dissuading other people not to break the law. Unthinkable to us, Russians do not even question this reality. To some extent our right to criticize how Russians respond to the situation ignores the fact that we are free to do so in a manner that has no negative consequences for ourselves AND our families, let alone negative consequences for the rest of our lives - including prison or death. After reading the entire lengthy article I have to say I am no longer as ghoulishly happy seeing Russians chased and killed by drones as I was previously. Don’t get me wrong, I agree the drones need to kill them, but I no longer think of every Russian soldier as some sort of mindless, murderer- rapist. Many of them are absolutely victims too. We grow up knowing that we have a right to protest and nothing will happen to us if we do. All they know is that 99% of the time the state will win and will grind everything down that stands in the way of what the state wants. It strikes me as incredibly sad that centuries later, Russia is still a land governed by a Czar and ruthless Boyers, who get to terrorize and trample (and thus control) the continually beaten down serfs into a state of zombie-like compliance. It also strikes me that such a land, with such a government, and such a people, should not be permitted to exist if the leaders of that dysfunctional society possess nuclear weapons.14 points

I am wrapping up a grad certificate program from McCombs this week. As a long-suffering UNC football fan, can I jump on the Texas bandwagon? I think I’ve endured enough misery over the years. Thanks for your consideration13 points
