So I have been in Kyiv a week now. Pretty incredible how normal people go about life. I mean obviously you can’t stop and just hide in your house. Kyiv is also pretty far from the front lines. My buddy that I came here with is high up in the decision making tree of the special operations group here. Have been able To go out with him twice. Incredible stories about some of the stuff they are doing. He confirmed that they did not hack the Russian train system and that the Russians are just idiots and don’t follow any sort of rules or guides. I asked him about drone donations and he said to get a drone fully up and running it’s about a minimum of $1500. I am going to donate that to him, they have an official bank account with swift aiBN numbers and they will write any message you want on the drone and film it in use if they can. Will also send pictures. His brother has been in Liberia and Somalia and train all over the US at our bases. I also see and can pick out Americans here in kyiv and see a couple a day. Two of them yesterday had a missing leg each. You can tell that American military civilian dress code a mile away. One was wearing a “Watagua Medics” hat. One of my other best friends from Texas was here in a medic capacity during the first invasion so i imagine he was doing exactly what they are doing ten years ago. there has only been one alarm that has gone off, 2 nights ago the Russians sent about 60 drones and the Ukrainians took every single one of them out. people can definitely tell im foreign. Had one guy come up and just want to talk. Other than that people definitely look, assume im sort of military and carry on. these are really strong people and I admire their values, traditions, identity, and strength. I have never seen more women walking around with flowers and men holding the hands of their women. Old school values here. Oh yea I’m typing from a phone with a cracked screen so any typos or just horrible autocorrects I can’t see so apologies.39 points

1) I love seeing recruits turn out in force, like say, these two guys. No one will commit, though 2) We should celebrate Sims not making a trip to Austin this weekend that he's likely to make later. I still think we sign him. Probably. Maybe. 3) If you're wondering if we'll pursue a specific player at a position of need, sure. Anything could happen. Who the fuck knows. Thanks for the money.25 points

He’s just mailing it in at this point. He’s like the 25-year middle manager who realizes he’s never going to make VP, has maxed out in comp, sees all the corporate dysfunction, knows that nothing he does makes a difference to the company or the greater good, and doesn’t like anyone he works with. Sure, he’ll show up 9ish to 4ish, and make the mandatory meetings, fill out his weekly reports, but he’s done, and everyone knows that.20 points

Imagine trying to defend “encourage to leave” as the same as “enticed to leave.” ”Listen, my wife wasn’t enticed to leave by the neighbor with his 9 inch beer can hog and his money, I ENCOURAGED her to because frankly I’m poor.”20 points

This is fucking enraging. Whatever disagreement Trump has with Zelensky, Zelensky is the head of state that has been invaded and had hundreds of thousands of its people (many civilians, many women and children) killed and severely wounded, and Trump is going to make a public spectacle of praising his relationship with Zelensky’s enemy, the head of state of the country that invaded him, WHILE HES STANDING NEXT TO ZELENSKY? Trump is a no class motherfucker. But he’s also a buffoon in every arena, especially foreign policy.19 points

I’ve gotten to the point that I can normally just shake my head at Trump’s stupid shit. Concepts of a plan. They’re eating the dogs, they’re eating the cats. Shit like that. It’s just expected that when he opens his mouth that stupid shit will come out. For some reason, this one really fills me with rage. There he is standing next to a man who leads a sovereign nation that was invaded by an aggressor and Trump is praising a dictator and saying it takes two to tango. He cares nothing about the Ukrainian people, Ukraine’s sovereignty or the thousands of Ukrainian people that have lost their lives. One person is responsible for this horror and Trump brags about having a great relationship with him (spoiler: He doesn’t have a great relationship with Putin. He’s Putin’s lapdog.) Trump is sociopath and yet somehow millions of people could watch that clip and think he’s some sort of foreign policy mastermind.18 points

Holy crap. I would venture to say that I have read more Texas literature, Texas history, Texas culture than anybody on this board. You absolutely MUST read Goodbye to a River. It is in the rarified pantheon of greatest Texas works of literature ever. Top five all time. As for Don Graham, I have stories for miles. It was he who invited me, a lowly undergraduate, to hang out with the Mad Dogs at the chili parlor. That's where I met Shrake, Cartwright, Pete Gent, Eddie Wilson, William Goyen and others, and that is why when I hear Guy Clark's Dublin Blues I sigh wistfully. Mad Dog margaritas are the best. Graham was fabulously encouraging to me, though I really had accomplished nothing. But, after I started Traces of Texas, he sent me several emails and direct messages that I still treasure. Being that it was 30 years later, and I was a grown middle aged man, I asked him why he had been so encouraging back then. He said, "Because I knew there was something in you beyond that which you thought was beyond you." I almost cried. Along with Roger Louis, he was the best professor I ever had at UT. When I heard that he died, I cursed myself for not going to see him when I had the chance. He really was something special.18 points

It’s amazing because Trump has run the second worst campaign I have ever seen… and he still has a shot… because almost half of our population is willing to abandon nearly every moral and ethical principle for the illusion of political power and liberal tears. A massive ongoing tragedy our institutions refuse to adequately address.15 points

I’ve let my kids taste margaritas when they were little. Never thought twice about it. This kind of anger is bizarre.14 points

My grandpa used to let me finish his Miller Lites when I would visit them in Florida when I was like 4 or 5. I liked the taste of it. One time back home I discovered a can of Miller Lite in the garage that had liquid in the bottom and took a big swig. Gasoline. Some might say that this explains a thing or two.13 points

When they ended that clip, Trump was saying "But, ya know, It takes two to tango". Let that sink in for a second. Intruders come into your home in the middle of the night. All hell breaks loose as you try to defend your family and home. Trump: "But, ya know, it takes two to tango". Or how about this one: Jan. 6. Capitol Police defend the building from invading, violent mob. Trump: "But, ya know, it takes two to tango".13 points

The reason I disagree with this is that Putin is literally the one person whom Trump has NEVER spoken negatively of in public. Even the other dictators he clearly likes, like Xi and Kim, he'll still talk a bit of shit about sometimes (and used to before they paid him off with money/praise). But not Putin. He's always been very careful to never say anything remotely negative about Putin. And the photos after their meeting in Finland were clear, Trump looked fucking terrified after their meeting. Putin absolutely has something on him that he'll do anything to keep secret. ETA: Trump didn't "deliver" lethal aide to Ukraine. Congress passed that with a veto-proof supermajority and Trump still held it up to try to extort Zelennskyy for his own personal ends. Once that went public and he couldn't really keep holding it up, his administration began delivering weapons but that was in spite of him, not because of him.13 points

"It takes two to tango." Just realize and remember that Trump would say the exact same thing if the person standing next to him was the victim of someone who raped them every single night. "I have a very good relationship with the rapist, and we'll get this solved very quickly." Rape Victim: "Ummm, I hope you have a better relationship with me, the rape victim." "Well, it takes two to tango." He's a fucking evil psychopath. Full stop.13 points

Controversial take: I hope Texas beats every team we play by 100 from here to eternity and wins every championship and award possible, and known UT super-fan Natalie Portman shows up at my door wanting to watch games and celebrate the victories.13 points

yep President Biden just approved $1B in Emergency relief funds to Florida on THE DAY the Hurricane hit. Trump stated he would WITHHOLD relief funds for CA wild fires because he doesn't like Gov. Newsom. And THAT is this difference between Democrats and Republicans. Between a REAL President and a whiny little bitch baby!!12 points

Well folks, think I'm gonna try to catch some shut eye, probably won't be able to comment for a bit, loss of power and cell and all that good stuff. Beyond that, I imagine I will have ample work to do to help neighbors and what not. Wish all of you and everyone in the path of this bullshit well.12 points

I'm thinking/hoping there's a significant amount of Trump voters like this guy that are flipping to Kamala because of January 6th.12 points
