  1. NY Times Pitch Bot: β€œWe proudly endorse Kamala Harris for President. Why that’s bad news for Harris.”
    40 points
  2. Intro: Bye week coming off win is great as an undefeated team. First year going into bye undefeated, always loses right before the bye. Bye week happy is positive. Totality of first 5 weeks of the season + looking at the last game for bye week. Meeting this morning centered around that. Great balance offensively passing gets notoriety just under 200 yards on the ground and 300 yards in the air per game. Credit to the O-Line. 3 backs coming in as RB1 and having the main carries. Credit to the QB's 2.5 games each, and big play making ability from the receivers. 8.4 yards per play vs ms state almost a first down per play 1/4 explosive play rate which is good. +2 on the turnover margin is not where they want to be. They turned the ball over more than they have in the past. It's easy to point at Arch or Jaydon Blue and say hey it's them, but he's focused on how general protection comes instead of specific players. Big loss of focussness and bullshit penalties are fucking everything up, gotta stop fucking up the easy stuff and they are gonna work on it in practice. 5 Holding calls, Gunnar's hold was bullshit, but still lots of holding they gotta fix that. 53% conversion on 3rd down, but gotta stop getting into bad situations. Need to push the WR to get into blocking and make it clear that they have to block out wide to set up screens etc. averaging 7 points a game, given up 3 touchdowns in 5 games. 3rd down defense is great, rz defense is great, sack number is going up. Need to understand where the breakdowns occurred, it was alignment and assignment issues. One of their explosive plays was a miscommunication that needs to be cleaned up. Impressed overall with the unit, collectively playing well, ms st tried to get cute and it worked a bit first drive but then after that they figured it out and then after that they shut them down and fuck them. Kick return game has been frustrating, not much going on there. Silas had an explosive return. Will Stone has been having a great season, haven't had to tackle on a kickoff that he can remember. Get fresh get healthy need those sports science numbers back up. Proud of guys through 5 games, not a third of the way through the season if they are going to accomplish what the goal is. Question 1: What is the schedule this week and what do you want to accomplish? Did meetings today to review game and lifted -- no practice or walkthrough. Practice tomorrow (replacing Monday) introduce OU and scouting stuff. A day delayed all week and install the gameplan and then Friday lift and no practice and totally off till Monday. Spend time to get right mentally spend time with family friends etc and come back refreshed and hit it hard like a normal week next week. Question 2: is there a mental push over a physical this week? through 5 games is there differences in officiating for the SEC vs Big XII? Concerned more about the duration of the season. Started a week earlier this week for camp, first game in August and they are aiming for January 20 so that's a long season. Keeping up the mental intensity for that whole time is a big concern and challenge. Wants them to get mental break this weekend as well because it'll be needed. Hasn't seen much different from the SEC vs Big XII Question 3: 7-3 coming off bye weeks. Common themes coming off of bye weeks for your teams? He can't even remember what those 10 games are. It's all about identifying needs and addressing needs. Every season is different and it's a self audit. Where are they emphasizing to get better and where do they need to be for the next couple of games schematically. Assess players and sports science numbers. Who needs time off, pushing further and maybe some nursing etc. Question 4: oline gave arch a ton of time, do you track the time they give him explicitly? Doesn't keep track of a metric like time. Cooking steaks is what they call it. Deandre moore second touchdown he had a tremendous pocket and blocking. They blocked the 5 guys who they needed to on a blitz and arch knew exactly where the extra was because the protections were so clean. Veteran group who take pride in protecting qb. Question 5: take us through quinn's process, how do you get him ready for OU in the bye week, and what do you think of their defense? He's rehabbing and making progress one day to the next. Steady progress. Stronger more confident. OU's defense is solid they sack the QB a lot Venebles is really aggressive and attacking they want to hit the qb and force turnovers. Question 6: do you tell guys to watch football in the off week? Georgia alabama game did you watch that immediately? He does encourage that. They like watching football. This team watches a lot of football and comments to sark more than other teams. That game he watched in the office and then rushed home to watch the second half. Kirby smart is a great coach he didn't think they were going to roll over. What an epic game how it all played out. Puts things into perspective for this team. He said that Saturday they needed adversity and they got it and seeing how Georgia refocused and played through the end of the game is the focus he wants. Incredible SEC football at its finest. Question 7: Since they have split 2.5 games each how have you compared the two and their performance? He doesn't really look at it that way he looks at it as a body of work for the offense. He looks at the totality of the performance. They had a bunch of stuff come up, fumbles, dropped passes, "coach taking points off the board" could have been a 56 point game easily etc. Nothing had really anything to do with Arch - he had his own issues that he got his ass ripped for. He looks at it that there are 2 very capable players that are great at the position. Great to have 3rd year starter getting healthy and a backup who is getting incredible experience he may need to lean into later in the season. Question 8: You've done a great job quinn hits the ground running when coming back from injury, how do you do that? It starts immediately following the injury. They pull him closer. They get into game planning and very engaged the entire time mentally. Throughout the week he needs to assess things that he's most comfortable with, if he's already gonna play they go with the 10-20 plays that he's comfortable with and had tons of reps. They stay away from what looks sexy scheme wise and fits what he's been doing well. Selfish sark used to call the best play not the right play. Question 9: Staff can go out and recruit what does that look like? Loves going recruiting where they are going out and recruiting as an undefeated team. This is unique because 2 bye weeks this season. They are going to approach it a little differently this year because of that but they are going to be aggressive and have another round in November. They like to see the guys play and see their personality and character. Question 10: maybe a question about blocking? couldn't hear it. He wants more of something. He thinks run game is close. Challenge receivers a lot of the chunk runs are a byproduct of the WR making that last block. Tre Wisner had a long run and deandre moore sprang tre for a long run because of a great block. Has a championship caliber run game well versed in scheme have good runners good oline close to breakout game. Arch is nuances he got on him about something and the quarterback sneak he scored and because he got up the officials couldn't see it by the time they got there, he needs to stay on the ground so they can call it. The Refs even told him to remind him to stay on the ground after that. Question 11: Arch wants to be coach hard, how do you go about that that and who really wants to be coached hard or not? That's what they look at hard in recruiting, they try very hard to do that during that. Not listen for what you wanna hear but the real answers. He thinks that's why he came to Texas is because they wanted him to be coached they did their due diligence. They know him professionally for a long time. That's a key thing to grow and grow consistently Question 12: you played the holy war twice, what do you think about those two games? (Utah vs BYU is holy war) junior year 4 interceptions 3 in the first half they were booing him so hard his mom left at halftime. Senior year it was a blizzard he was like 7/12 for 80 yards and they rushed for 350 yards. He remembers those games vividly. He loves that rivalries are about this, he loves the tradition and pageantry with college football. The best way to enjoy a rivalry game is to prepare really well. People that get caught up in the game Monday Tuesday Wednesday go out and get whooped and have a bad experience. So preparation is key to having those great memories. Question 13: How is Jaydon Blue feeling mentally is he doing alright? He's doing great, physical errors are physical errors they are gonna work on that. They NEED Jaydon Blue he's an asset and a weapon on the team and they are going to work on getting him better. He's gonna get back to work. 3 things what take care of the ball better why cuz we can't fumble how what they are working on in practice. follow up about him coming out to media: he's a mature guy he thinks that the mentors he had with Roschon, Bijan, Jonathon etc were all great examples. as men we take accountability for our actions. Jaydon went and spoke to the media answered questions and moved on. Question 14: There's a 2 seam WR play (bond/moore) and he went to deandre moore instead of bond was that how it was drawn up or does arch have more of a connection with Moore because of the recruiting class together? First of all you call a play with a certain coverage in mind he didn't think they would 0 blitz them on a 3rd and long near the 50 yard long. They were anticipating coverage. They were trying to get 3 downfield. The beauty of it was the offensive line picked up the right 5, second arch knew who the free rusher was, third he knew where his man answers for where to take a shot. It was dealers choice - he went with dre to the field and it was a heck of a throw and a heck of a catch. Question 15: This week stars the second phase, do you name each phase of the season and whats the theme of this phase? He saves his creativity for the playcalling, it's just phase 2. This is a 4 week block to the next bye week. so it's 4 weeks and 3 games. It's a really long season so they break it into smaller segments to help the players focus better. Question 16: What traits does Isaiah bond have that allow him to be a trusted weapon so early in the offense? He's fast. He has elite speed. Helped him coming was his time at alabama, he learned a lot of the systematic things. The transition and integration to get comfortable was a lot easier than golden or bolden coming from other places. He makes plays at critical moments. QB's seeing that on TV gives him a headstart, hasn't disappointed yet on that. He's starting to become one of those guys who catches a curl route and he might just go. He has true explosive playmaking ability that can happen at or behind the line of scrimmage not just from a deep ball. Question 17: Jwhitt said deandre moore would be a leader have you seen that? He is the leader of that room, he is the captain of the WR room for sure. Studied everything about JWhitt from playbook to diet, to body to recovery to special teams work etc. It's paying off. The play he blocked for tre he got rewarded with a td 3 plays later. Jwhitt was spot on. Question 18: Simmons get off is that a unique quality you saw in him? Does that help open up the middle for the other guys? Wishes he could coach that or take credit. There's god given abilities like height weight strength arm size and get off. He was trying to figure out his get off early in the season because in high school you get so used to the handclap. Guess the clap etc. He's keying the back tip of the ball and rolling. He's using fundamentals and technique is incredible. DE to have 7 tackles is a lot of tackles. He does help a lot with the other guy. Collin is speed speed speed. Collin and Burke are bull rushers. Speed factor is huge. Question 19: Bye week comes at a time with lots of injuries talk about catching your breath and ease them back in throughout the week and relax? Knock on wood we haven't gotten bit by the injury bug that bad. There's schools down 2-4 offensive lineman. Losing critical pieces like QB and RB, a couple of safety has been an issue. Everything else is doing really well health wise. They need to get fresh and get healthy. Physical component, but a big mental component as well recharge the battery a bit don't be mundane, stale or going through the motions. He wants them to have positive energy and vibes throughout the season. Refresh is just as important as the get healthy part.

  6. To underscore that mediocrity, they've won 10+ games one time since 1998. That places them 15th out of 16 SEC teams. That places them in a 3-way tie for 13th out of 16 B12 teams. Here are some other teams that have more double digit win seasons over that period: Navy - 4 Northwestern - 3 Wake Forest - 2 Minnesota - 2 Temple - 2 Cal - 2 Charlie Strong - 3 Tom Herman - 2

  8. I put up an OU game week thread (it was pure genius) and El Jefe said patience grasshopper, patience. Do a Texas vs bye week thread instead. I’m on a cruise starting Saturday, so he copied my Texas v OU gameweek post and he will be posting it for me on Sunday next week, worry not. So, Texas v Bye is a good time to take note of what’s going on and talk about big picture stuff and what our goals should be during this bye week. Big picture: The Good: This Texas squad is a rolling ball of butcher knives right now. We are one of 3 or four teams not to trail in a game yet this year. We have spent roughly 10 minutes of time in the second half not up double digits. We are averaging something like 45 points a game. We have given up 3 TD’s all year- 1 on a busted play 67 yard run and 2 garbage time TD’s while up 3 or 4 TD’s. We have a starting QB that’s looks like the best QB in college football and his back up has played almost as well and looks like the Heisman front runner for 2025, after QB1 goes to NY for this years Heisman ceremony and likely goes top 5 in the draft. This team lost 11 players to the draft and looks like we will have more players drafted than that this year. We have a head coach that is clearly the right man for the right time in Texas football that’s going to have us going a massive run the next decade. On defense, we lost a damn good LB coach to a head job at a lower level program and improved with his replacement- we got a guy that’s helped bring the defense together and brought new concepts and cohesion to the unit. Our special teams are pretty good. We have tons of young players who are showing out, getting better and showing that the future is bright. Recruiting is good, retention is awesome and the portal is an absolute weapon for us. This bye week is important. We need to get QB1 fully healthy- he’s a weapon and big game tested. We need to heal up some dings in the RB room. We need to make sure we are ready for a dual threat QB in OU and make sure we have some stuff ready to clown a pretty good but not great defense of theirs. We need to be ready for a very good Georgia team the next week that’s not as good as they have been, and, quite frankly, not as good as us. Most of all, we need to continue to work on us and play to a standard. This is, pretty clearly in my mind, the best team in the land. This is the best Texas team since 05 and if they continue to get better and play to a standard they will have the chance to go down as a special team in college football. Maybe not 94/95 Nebraska, 01 Miami, 05 Texas or 19 LSU, but better than the typical run of the mill national championship type team. It’s all on the table for us. Let’s use the bye as a tool to heal up, sharpen our blades, play to a standard and be all that we can be. It’s a good time in Austin when the football is good. Hook β€˜Em and enjoy the good times.

  9. We all know we have a relative easy SEC schedule. No one argues it. What we object to is hearing for 15 years how hard the SEC is and now all of a sudden everyone realizes that there are a bunch of bad/mediocre teams in the SEC just like all other conferences. It has always been a top heavy league. We also object to "Texas was gifted" we weren't gifted, it was math. Not our fault that OU/Aggy/Florida all decided to suck this year.

If you have anyone in your life that you want to see them vote, make sure they're registered. check registration: https://teamrv-mvp.sos.texas.gov/MVP/mvp.do register: https://vrapp.sos.state.tx.us/index.asp (or check with your local county's website) pick up a blank voter registration forms at county offices, post offices, libraries or apparently some high schools Of course Texas doesn't want you to vote, so the online application only completes a form that must be printed, signed and mailed/walked-in to the county office. Any mailed application must be postmarked by the 7th. @immamac can you pin this to the top for the next week?

  15. Back in nineteen and sixty-nine when I was a freshman architecture student at the Institute on South Main aka Rice University, each week during football season we decorated the second floor exterior of Anderson Hall with a neatly lettered sign on a roll of 3’ wide butcher paper with jaunty slogans like β€œBeat the Aggies,” β€œBeat the Frogs,” β€œBeat the Longhorns (Ha!)” and so on. That year when the open date arrived, the sign on Monday morning shouted to the Rice community: ”BEAT OFF WEEK!” It stayed up until about 9:30 a.m. before the Campos ripped it down. The Owls were victorious against Off Week, mirabile dictu.

  19. I hated on Broughton for his first three years here. He was soft and stood straight up out of his stance way too often. But he noticeably improved last year, and has continued that trend this year. The hardest thing to evaluate from outside the program is work ethic and effort. This dude’s obviously been killing it in those areas. He’s also a good reminder that experience and seniority is usually more important along the LOS than talent/star ranking (with the rare exceptions like Collin Simmons). I couldn’t be more happy for him having a breakout year. He’s making himself millions of dollars this year, and I love to see it.

  25. This is really out of touch. Do you know how many adults of all ages and all backgrounds use weed these days? Old people have really turned the corner on marijuana. Too many of them have seen themselves, or friends, or family struggle with chemo and other issues and know the benefit cannabis provides. I know that medical marijuana is legal in many places, but it needs to be readily available everywhere with zero restrictions on what type is available to a an adult who needs it. I'll never forget 15 years ago when one of my best friends called me in tears asking if she could "pay" me for some marijuana I had to help her dad while he was dying from pancreatic cancer. Of course I just gave it to her and offered to give her more anytime they needed it. He had never used it before in his life, but it ended up providing great relief during chemo. All that said, right now the most important part of legalizing marijuana is decriminalizing it. It is 100% a winning issue.

  26. I know this full interview was posted earlier, but some comments about this clip. Mark Cuban is great here. He's not "triggered" or angry, he is patient and friendly with Vonn, and succinctly states his issues with Donald Trump without coming off as arrogant or mean. But just watch Theo fucking Vonn. Cuban: "Trump has ripped off a lot of people I know." Vonn: "There have been a lot alleged issues with contractors." Cuban "No, people I know have been ripped off." Tells story of co-worker having to sue Trump for not paying her $4 million. Vonn: "But how does someone benefit from behaving like that?" Cuban says this is who Trump is and all he knows. He was born rich. Vonn: "He always had good hair. Rich people always have good hair." Cuban laughs off a bad joke and total deflection. Cuban lists off Trump businesses that have ripped off hardworking Americans. He incredulously laughs at Trump's commemorative coin bullshit. Vonn: "That's gangster, bro." What a fucking joke. Cuban comes on the show in good faith, and Vonn returns the favor by having absolutely no desire to genuinely discuss any of his factual points. Vonn's instincts are to defend Trump, doubt any criticism, and call him a "gangster" with "great hair." Vonn's listeners will not take Cuban seriously if Vonn himself doesn't. Which makes these type of interviews pointless IMO. Idiocracy on full display. I now get why Kamala or Walz shouldn't entertain going on Rogan, Vonn, or any other podcast from these clowns. The fix is already in with these piece of shit Trump apologists.
