We are less than 1/3 of the way through the full college football season and there is exactly one SEC team with an undefeated record. This conference is dickless and overrated.29 points

I'm no bitch. I'm taking the loss, as painful as it is. If I had a hat, I'd tip it to Vandy, with a 17th century flourish, their coaches, players, students, band, fans, all. We are 4-1, headed God knows where. AS the old school boys used to preach, "Back to fundamentals!" Eye discipline, poise, intensity, focus, no out of bounds shit, no classless kicking the ball as the better team take a knee shit, no throwing into coverage on the first fucking play of the game shit, no failure to get a single three and out shit. Fuck, guys, try to put together two consecutive plays in which we don't fuck up! Last year I watched with Mr. Burns-rubbing-his-hands-together-murmuring-"Excellent!" glee as Diego Pavia and NM St humiliated Alldumb in Possum Hair Stadium. Karma's the bitch to all gloaters. Then, in the off season doldrums, I saw where Pavia had transferred to Vandy. Hmmm, good for Vandy, said I. Then I checked our schedule and saw this game. All I said was, "Oh, Shit!" I've said it every week since then as I watched our wafer-thin, no tackling defense give up extended drives to the likes of Western Kentucky and USF and damn near blow a 30-3 lead to Georgia. After Georgie, I was thinking somewhere in my lizard brain that, SURELY WE ARE PREPARING FOR PAVIA AND HIS HOUDINI RUNNING GAME. Right? Wrong. Unless something changes drastically team-wide, my guys will do well to have a winning season in conference. I'm not getting on Kalen DeBoer unless this crap carries over to next year. The Tide goes out on a regular basis nut it always comes back in. Hook 'em if they can't take a joke. I strongly recommend the Horns defensive brain trust study that nasty tape from yesterday. Try some run blitzes or something. Don't be a catch and release defense. Vandy plays at Kentucky this week. Watch UK beat the shit out of them. Never give up, Joe. Bama's puck and girt have writ her name in Crimson Flame. Well, get to writing, you NIL prima donnas.26 points

I think we are really good. That said, you cannot exclude Ohio State from that same level unless you just havenβt watched them. Those are the two fastest teams in the country. Discounting Michigan is silly. That game was blanketed in drama heading into it. Defending champ, 110,000 people, Gameday and Big Noon, mega hype. Their defense has at least 3 first round picks and likely other draftable guys. Then Texas played βname that scoreβ and walked out of there casually. Itβs bullshit to denigrate that. Let the pundits and aggies do that.26 points

Texas v OU. The Red River Shootout. Good v evil. Class v none. Good breeding v inbreeding. Teeth privileged v toothless. 2 proud football programs. One world class institution of higher learning and one glorified community college that exists to service their football team. SEC nonsense aside, this is the game that means more. 12 schools (maybe 13?) officially consider Texas their main rival according to a poll I saw last year. Thankfully, with the move to the SEC weβve gotten away from the majority of these no win games against second rate schools that represent nothing but potential downside. Texas considers itself to have 3 rivals, but they arenβt all created equally. Arkansas left 30 years ago and we put them on the schedule a handful of times and played them as a curiosity for the olds who wouldnβt stop blathering about royal and Broyals and Fayetnam and cousin loving and blah blah blah. Aggy left and we laughed at them when they lost eternal scoreboard, and decided never to play them again. OU though, OU is special. College football has gone through massive realignment where every school is out for themselves and 2 schools have stood out on deciding they are a package deal, Texas and OU. Both, by any metric top 8 or so programs. The richest and most envied program in America in Texas. Probably the second most accomplished (or 3rd behind Bama and maybe the Domers) in Oklahoma. We have owned them historically. Theyβve probably out shined us a bit in the 21st century. But this is a series of runs. Schools rip off 4 in a row or 8 out of 10 and it serves as a spotlight for what the other school needs to do to get better. Weβve been on the bad side of that the last 15 years or so as weβve wandered the desert. No more. This game is so important because generally the winner is national title quality. When you go on that run when you win 5 in a row or 8 out of 10 you are likely rolling and ready too dominate. Sark has 2 tasks left at Texas after acing most everything leading up to this- flip the script decisively in this series and win a national title. it says here that he will do both those things starting this year. Give em hell give em hell, OU sucks. its 8:19 in the morning and OU sucks. texas doesnβt fall into the gulf because OU sucks. hook em high like an eagle soars. Even dear old Bill in Sinton wouldnβt worry about anyone overlooking this game- itβs the one always circled in red ink.21 points

Hey guys. I've shared that my younger daughter's NYC roommate worked at the law firm that won the civil suits against plague-carrying Trump for his sexual assault of E. Jean Carroll. They celebrated with red-baseball caps that read $83M I am so freaking proud of her and the young people who can make the difference in the upcoming election. I sure hope they come out and vote!20 points

Football is a game of wins and losses, and A&M has a better win than Texas, and a better loss than Texas. That's a double advantage for the Aggies.14 points

I also bought season tickets for the Wyoming game as it was cheaper than the inflated single game ticket price. Donated the rest of the seasonβs tickets to the Laramie Boys and Girls Club.14 points

Well, I had to trek down to Cranfills Gap today for a memorial service for my favorite teacher. I absolutely loved the guy. The "cafetorium" was standing room only. Easily one and a half times the town population. He was always very straight, and you could never tell if he was joking. His middle name was Cornelius, when he told us, we wouldn't believe him, I mean who would name their kid with a name like that. He was born on the morning of December 7, 1941, we always told him that's why the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor that day. Mr. Cox, or Larry, when we weren't at a school function was the epitome of using every gift God gave him to teach multiple subjects at our small school. He taught history, government (civics), coached when needed, and was responsible for any electives that the school district could coerse him into. He also drove a school bus three hours a day, and I rode every mile with him in eighth grade. He was a commercial pilot, so he taught Aviation as an elective, I was his first student to pass the Private Pilots exam, he was absolutely ecstatic. He had a few more, and one of the guys a year behind me, is now a pilot with United. He was a pretty decent guitar player, and taught a guitar class as an elective after I had graduated. He always made any of my family functions, he attended my wedding (a two hour drive), and my father's 70th birthday. My aunt walked in, he turned to her and said, "hello Debbie." She asked him, "have we met?" He told her they had a class together at Tarleton State 32 years ago, and he remembered her. He always could remember anything, and anyone, kinda like Mac Brown remembering your name. The service was really nice, I saw people I haven't seen for 38 years. Some you recognize, some you had to reintroduce yourself. I weigh about 60 lbs. more and now have gray hair, so I was in the introduction crowd. I was so skinny back then, I had to jump around in the shower just to get wet. It was kinda cool seeing the old school. The "cafetorium" wasn't there when I attended. They moved the tennis courts and the football field house is there now. But the best thing I saw all day was the newer "ticket booth" they had acquired: That is the same scoreboard they had when I played there 38-42 years ago, and it was old then. CHIEF14 points

I was there in person, in Longhorn Band, in the other end zone. It was real and it was spectacular. It was a perfect day for football. Sunny but cool with a little breeze. We put "God Bless the USA" in our halftime show so we wouldn't get booed. Everyone stood up when we started playing it. We didn't get booed. On the last play, the middle opened up. I could see a straight empty path from the QB all the way to ... really no one ... just the back of the end zone. On the throw, Jones came out of nowhere and got crushed at the same time the ball got there. We had no idea what had happened until he stood up and started pumping his fist and the stadium just went silent. We jumped around for a while and eventually played Texas Fight and the Eyes of Texas. The director told us that going to the buses right now was a bad idea so we should just stay and play. So we played full blast for about fifteen minutes to an empty stadium. We went outside to the buses. While we were loading, this old guy with a plastic hog hat came over. He said "That is IT! I QUIT! I am never ever coming back to this place. Who wants my hat?" My friend said "I'll take it!" and wore it on the bus all the way back to Austin.14 points

What the fuck on Ohio State having a better resume than Texas right now. Thatβs a laughable position. You canβt devalue a Michigan win while lifting up an Iowa win. Michigan State is the same kind of ass as Mississippi State. Akron, Western Michigan and Marshall all blow the same way ULM, UTSA and CSU do, only the OSU opponents are even worse.12 points

Then write a letter to the family. Seriously, put those words on paper, put a stamp on it, and send it. Iβve gotten to where that is something I frequently do. Itβs tangible, more lasting than flowers or some shit, and does something really important: it tells the family that their loved one is still alive in hearts and memories other than theirs.12 points

I sadly don't visit Surly that much any more, and maybe this was covered to some degree, but Augusta Georgia got absolutely fucked by Helene. Too much of the coverage when you search is of the Augusta National, honestly fuck them because they could donate a whole lot more for the community than 5 mil and they'll be fine. My parents house, the house and neighborhood grew up in got absolutely decimated. It's quite likely a tornado spawned because the pine trees ripped through houses like a buzzsaw. This is my parents, my old, house. My dad had many of the pine trees cut around the house over the past decade but the one left was this one.12 points
