  2. Made it through... lost every non-palm tree in our yard. That was a bitch to begin to cleanup. Was only able to tackle the front yard since the back still has about 3" of standing water everywhere. Protip... downed trees sitting in water are seemingly exponentially heavier to move to the curb than ones NOT sitting in water... Initial reports are... quite good, considering the expectations. Surge on the barrier islands not AS bad as expected, and Sanibel survived with just a scratch compared to Ian. Still no power at our house, but I'd say 10% of the business are open this morning. Stopped to get a coffee and it has never tasted as good as it has this morning.

  3. obama shutting down his own crowd to emphasize the importance of what he’s saying is something to see. that’s authority. he and trump are legitimately on polar opposite ends of the public speaking spectrum.

  7. This is a tired trope that needs to die. She’s being doing interviews left and right for the last two weeks with a bunch more scheduled including the CNN town hall.

  11. This sentiment is and always has been central to their collective fantasy which casts Texas as the fortunate rich kid whose successes have never been earned and casts themselves as the virtuous underdogs. The actual people involved don’t change this. So of course every Texas player and coach is a selfish, arrogant, shallow diva while all ags are genuine hard-working men of character. When you start with this conclusion (and then try to support it at all costs), you kinda have to tap into a level of cognitive dissonance that most can’t reach. Never mind that it is their program, not Texas’s, that has repeatedly been caught cheating, and that they are the ones constantly boasting about how wealthy their program is - they are the virtuous underdogs.

  12. I was in Trumpistan (Katy) yesterday playing golf, and near the practice green heard two old men talking about Doug Emhoff cheating on his first wife and how disgusted they were by it. LOL. Can't wait for this election to be over with.

  13. Cross-posting from the Best Buy board, but Son of GOLL, @Brisketexan, and I are making a thunder run up to Dallas Saturday morning with a Saturday late afternoon, and we have a spare seat. It's free to the buyer of kolaches and Slim Jims. First row west side upper deck at about the goal line. Let us know your playlist and opinion on whether mustard or ketchup goes on a corny dog. ETA: So @Macanudowas the first to jump in. So here we go tomorrow morning. In preparation, I'm going to Maudie's tonight for a fucking Strait Plate with double refrieds. Brisket's truck is going to smell like a Tijuana sewer by the time we reach Georgetown. @immamac--in anticipation of updates tomorrow, perhaps this thread should be moved to the general football board?

  16. I’ve been trying to tell people the media as pushing a shit narrative the last 24 hours. There aren’t that many Black men going over to the R side, no more than usual.

  17. I shot Brisket a text about this. The last time I did something like this was with Troph, HaydenHorn and Anastasis 14 years ago. I might regret it but then again, how often does someone get to ride in a car with such pompous bloviators?

  18. That last video of Obama...he articulates the befuddlement and frustration perfectly in words and tone. Why are we accepting the unacceptable? I'm sort of wordless right now. Thanks, Obama.

  21. i had the privilege of spending a lot of time on this field when the mls Burn played there 96-03 the PITCH was voted unanimously as the best in mls by all of the internationals who played for mls in it's inaugural season the grass is somewhere between 5 and 7 inches thick it's like a sponge, and it's almost impossible to rip up it requires enormous quantities of water to keep alive and thriving, but this is the same grass that was installed 30 years ago for the 94 world cup 30 million dollars of water have been consumed for our annual fiesta worth every penny thank you, City of Dallas

  23. This is why I don’t think the election is as close as they’re trying to tell us Shes not shedding huge numbers of black voters like the polling subsamples say Shes not doing any worse with Latino voters nationwide than Biden She’s doing roughly the same as Biden did with young voters She’s killing Trump in the burbs - doing better than Biden She’s doing better with women and college educated voters than Biden did It doesn’t square up

  24. my dad donated $30 to the galveston county democratic party. I cannot say enough how surreal this is, not just that he's actually donating to a political party, but that is the democrats at that! My dad was an apathetic republican by default for decades, voting was just a rote ritual for him where he'd go and check the republican downticket without even knowing who was running. He grew up in the era of dixiecrats in jim crow era houston where his deeply brown ass couldn't go into whites only washrooms and stuff. The Republicans hitching their wagon to Donald Trump will ultimately backfire when examined through the lens of history, because this is a generational shift. They are driving away a previously pacified base and giving them a reason to pay attention, which does not favor the republicans one bit.

  25. Let's be very clear about Trump's economy: he promised to wipe out the national debt in 8 years. In the first 3 years of his administration, the debt ROSE by ~ $5T, which had nothing to do with the covid pandemic. Color me skeptical that he was going to turn around a debt 25% higher than what he inherited in the next 5 years. I don't know why Democrats cannot message this better.
