  1. I put together a little edit of the 1st half of this season using only the Texas Creative Media team's footage. And to keep it on topic from earlier in the thread, the song is The Hardest Cut by Spoon, Austin's very own and arguably the greatest American rock band of the last 25 years. texashardestcut.mp4

  4. And yes, Black people treat Souls to the Polls like any other major service—church anniversary, funeral, pastor’s anniversary There will be lunch served and it will be the best fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, corn, pecan pie, greens, 7-up cake, taco salad, meatloaf, sweet potatoes, sweet potato pie, and sweet tea you’ve ever eaten.

  5. An important point for all of us who care about our preferred candidate(s)--please vote on the first day of early voting. Every night, the campaigns get a list of people who early voted from each county's office. When they see that you voted, they can cross you off their GOTV list. So that is one less call and one less door-knock the campaign's GOTV people need to do. And that frees them to focus on other people who actually might not vote. If you're on this thread, then you're fucking voting. Even a single minute the party or the candidate spends on GOTV on you is a fucking waste. So don't make them waste that time/resources. Go vote the first day of early voting!

  6. While this is all completely logical, one thing I learned from our bowl with them is that you just really can't tell if Georgia wants to be there or not until you see how the game goes. If Georgia comes out and gives us a tough game or wins, then everything you said here will be true. If Texas comes out and dominates, that will be a clear sign that Georgia did not, in fact, want to be there. We'll just have to wait and see.

  7. This. There are a lot of quiet racists out there. I grew up a white kid in lily white Kansas, but I grew up in a meat packing town so there were a lot of races there to take advantage of, at the time, well paying meat packing jobs for unskilled labor. A lot of immigrants would come for those jobs. Growing up my siblings and I had Hispanic, black, and Asian friends in school and they would come over to play and stay overnight all the time, went on trips with us, etc. I never heard my parents use racial slanders. They always treated my friends well. In college, at 20 years old, I am dating a black coed. I come home during break and my father pulls me aside. He tells me it is okay to date a black woman, just don't marry one. I am pretty floored because I had never seen my father indicate he was racist in any way. I just looked him in the eye and told him if I did decide to marry a black woman he better get on board and treat her like a queen or else he'd never be a part of my life from the wedding day forward. At least he raised me right and did not expose me to his racism as a child, even if in the end his view on this made me lose a lot of respect for him permanently, as an adult. My parents divorced the next year, Dad re-married and became a Southern Baptist like his bible thumping, new wife. My step-mom will drop bigoted/racist comments from time to time, mostly about whatever new immigrant group is working at the meat packing plant when I visit, but my father still doesn't. I just know he silently feels the same way as my step-mom. Dad always votes straight R and will vote for Trump again this election for the 3rd time. No Trump talk, no Trump flags, no Trump paraphernalia, no Trump signs, etc. His Trump support is silent. Just like his racism.

  11. White dudes for Harris organizer. I’ve seen a lot of questions about why white men—especially young white men—seem so angry, distrustful of the Democratic Party, or drawn to MAGA-ism. I've been studying this issue for awhile now and I wanted to share some thoughts. If we want to make inroads with white dudes, we need to understand what’s happening. First, economic opportunities are shrinking. Young men are struggling with stagnant wages and fewer job prospects, making it harder for them to gain independence, start families, or even feel secure in adulthood. That instability makes many susceptible to the MAGA whirlpool. Second, there’s a major education gap. Fewer men are graduating from college compared to women, which has serious consequences for their long-term economic and social stability. Kamala Harris is doing well with educated white men, but not with those who didn’t finish college. That difference impacts their prospects and feeds into larger societal issues, which is why we need to make it a lot easier for people to go to college without racking up debt. Third, we’re facing a mental health and social isolation crisis. Young men are lonelier and struggling with mental health issues at higher rates, partly fueled by social media and the erosion of traditional community institutions (churches, men’s groups, etc.). White men in America are four times more likely to commit suicide than any other group. This is a national crisis, and we’re barely talking about it. Fourth, there’s an identity crisis. Gender roles and societal expectations are shifting (which is a good thing!), and young men are left wondering where they fit in. Without positive role models, many gravitate toward toxic figures like Donald Trump, because at least someone is speaking to their frustrations—however inartfully (which is being generous). Democrats haven’t done enough to offer better alternatives, though I think we’re starting to, with people like Tim Walz, Pete Buttigieg, and Doug Emhoff stepping up as strong role models. Fifth, forming relationships—especially romantic ones—has become harder. Economic pressures and the rise of online dating have created new dynamics that are disincentivizing young men (and women, for that matter) from building meaningful connections. This only adds to their sense of isolation and fuels resentment, particularly toward women and those who are economically better off. Lastly, there's a deep cynicism and lack of trust in institutions. Many young men no longer believe the American Dream is for them, or that they have a place in a society that’s rapidly changing. The old American mythology is crumbling around them, and with it goes their belief in a stable future. That loss of trust is driving them toward more extreme solutions and making it harder for them to feel invested in collective progress. All of these factors—along with others I haven’t mentioned—are creating a perfect storm of resentment and frustration among young white men. But these issues are real and addressable. The problem is, for too long, Democrats have retreated from engaging in spaces where these men are, leaving them to only hear from one side. That’s why I’ve been pushing for @KamalaHarris to go on Joe Rogan and praising @PeteButtigieg for going on Fox News. We need to enter these spaces and have real conversations about the issues white men are facing. Will it win all of them over? No. But if we can win over even a small fraction, it makes it much harder for Trump and MAGAism to win nationally. We can’t keep acting like white men don’t have real issues. Everyone is suffering from something, and everyone deserves to have that suffering addressed by their government. If we address these issues with the same seriousness we give to other communities, we won’t win them all—but we don’t have to. We’re building a multicultural coalition to move this country forward, but we can’t ignore the real challenges young white men are facing.

  13. Not necessarily. Most of the bigots I know keep their mouths shut so that they won't face the social consequences of expressing their bigotry. Remove the social pressure to not openly express their bigotry, and they'll let the hate flow. We've seen that with trump opening that door for them. I've seen a lot of racism expressed because I'm mayonnaise white and the racists thought that I would automatically agree with them. Like I'm part of their safe space. When I push back, they shut up. It's not guilt, they just don't want the push back.

  14. I struggle with Trump people I know. I try to avoid the topic and convince where I can. But the thing that stops me about Dago’s post above is…this person said they are aware they are voting for someone evil. If that’s ACTUALLY what they said…that’s not lost. That’s a complete understanding and still making a conscious choice for Evil. Hell, the guy could have said he just won’t vote. But he’s willingly voting for evil. If that’s what actually went down, then that isn’t lost. That’s knowingly complicit.

Yep, this isn't some "oh haha I am friends with an aggy or sooner and we joke and rib each other during games" type of thing - no one's fundamental rights to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness is being threatened by a football game once a year. This is more "this person fundamentally supports a party that thinks my existence should be illegal in this country, but he's such a nice person"

  20. -2 more DTs and possibly a 3rd if it is the right one. -Top end LB or bust -Hilson and Terry are in unless something weird happened recently. -If they take K Johnson, it is strictly to piss on The Elk’s rug. They’re going to take a burner with numbers from the portal regardless. That’s allocated. -The 2026 S is reclassifying so they’re done after that position unless he screws something up late. -They might have to get obnoxious at CB and given that the competition is Oregon, Ohio State, Alabama and ATM, I have to assume they’d target Dijon Lee. This position remains a head scratcher. -Given that Terry is going to practice in the spring as though he’s Tyler Warren and one or both of the full time TBs are enrolling early, they’re unlikely to go after a portal TB unless he’s free and hungry. -At DT, it’s not so much about landing any single specific guy, and the market is set on what these guys will cost. Whichever guys mesh the best with the staff and want to come to Texas more than some other place, those will be the extra 2-3 guys with whom they close.

  21. He's not wrong. Really, he's not wrong about any of it. Except...he doesn't get into the "how and why" these things came about. Here's the rest of the story: Young white men had it easy in terms of higher education, social dynamics, male roles in society and work, romantic relationships, etc.....because for GENERATIONS (really, all of western history), the deck was stacked IN THEIR FAVOR in all of those respects. It was easier for Willy Whiteguy to get into a decent university because.....no/few minorities, and no/few women were competing for admission slots. It was easier to participate in social institutions because they were almost all built for and run/filled with almost exclusively....white men. The Elks Lodge, fraternities, the local church Board of Elders, all of it....99% white guys. Nice cushy job in a downtown office, or at a good factory? Again....much easier to get because they were filled 99% by white guys, no real competition from minorities or women for those jobs. Romantic relationships? When women didn't have any real prospects for a safe, stable, secure (including financial security) future without a man to provide for them, men held all the cards. And again, the highest-value cards (remember the good education and all those good jobs) were held by white guys. If Pretty Paula wanted a nice house and decent food and a good lifestyle, she needed to marry a Willy Whiteguy, or she was hosed. Today....Pretty Paula beat out Willy Whiteguy for the latest promotion. She has a nice townhome, eats well, and has a nice life....she doesn't need Willy Whiteguy for any of that. Sure, she still might like a sexually compatible companion whose company she finds pleasing, but Whining Willy Whiteguy isn't doing great in that respect -- he sits at home, plays video games, has little ambition, and bitches about the fact that women who look like supermodels (the only women he thinks have any value) won't fuck him, and it must be someone else's fault. We've failed young men because we haven't pounded into their heads "society isn't just going to hand you this shit anymore, you have to go out there and earn it." And you're goddamned right I put a lot of that on the heads of loser young men who don't have the ambition or balls to get up out of the gaming chair and improve themselves. But I also put some of that on the rest of society, because we indeed have failed young men. When you take away an expected pathway (for all the right reasons -- none of this was to "punish" young white men, but simply to allow everyone else onto the field to compete as well) without offering a well-defined alternative pathway, people end up lost. Shut down the factory in town where everyone works, without providing an alternative, training for a different field, etc., the former factory workers are 1) fucked and 2) pissed. Metaphorically, we've done some of that, and we haven't figured out how to equip our young men for the new paradigm. We really need to do that. On the bright side, for young men who DO have their shit together, they're in high cotton. My son has talked about it (and he's already seen guys descend into the Andrew Tate world, bitter and angry, with little educational/professional/romantic success). He says "look, I'm smart enough, ambitious with a good work ethic, I'm decent looking and know how to dress and not look like a bum, and I can engage with women as equals and not treat them like they should be my property....I'm doing great." And he is. I'm sure he'd have done well under the old paradigm as well, but employers still want to hire men. Women still want male romantic partners. They just want winners, not losers. And has his peers fall away and become embittered losers, he looks better and better. But for all of our sake, that shouldn't be how things go. His loser peers need to catch up, because society being stuck with a huge clump of underperforming, angry and bitter young men isn't good for anyone.

  32. What a fucking boatload of malarky...I don't even know where to start. A man talking about the rule of law in favor of a guy who gassed peaceful protestors for a photo-op...a man talking the rule of law for someone who has said he'll suspend the laws to be a dictator on day one. A man talking about the rule of law who sent a mob at the capital when an election didn't go his way. A man who demonstably attempted to send fake electors. A twice impeached president with audio of a phone call demanding the GA secretary of state to find him 11k votes. The rule of law for a man who said legal citizens aren't legal citizens becuase they are also immigrants. The rule of law for a man who is endorsed by project 2025. The rule of law for a man who didn't approve FEMA payments for a state that didn't bend the knee. I don't even know where to start.
