If he had survived, I wonder if UnitedHealthcare would have denied his claim87 points

A fun United story: had a client a few years ago with some kind of rare leukemia (which had nothing to do with the case we were handling). He finds out that there’s a new treatment that is about to be approved but is available and his doctors got him on the list. It also costs like $500,000 and of course United denies the claim. Since we were already representing him we agreed to handle the denial appeal which we had to do in arbitration. 3 arbitrators, we pick one, United picks one, and one we agree upon. We’re told that United picked the same hack arbitrator they always pick so we assume we’re already in the hole. Arbitration lasts a couple of days, United has no defense other than “fuck this guy he’s dead already and we don’t wanna pay.” Arbitrators deliberate for maybe 15 minutes, come back in, and United’s chosen arbitrator proceeds to chew out United (or rather their lawyers) for denying the claim and that every person who touched this claim at United should be ashamed and gave United 48 hours to approve the claim. Client got the treatment and is doing just fine now. Hooray insurance companies!50 points

If it makes you feel any better we're #1. Both in recruiting and in the standings.50 points

Sorry I can't hear you, the engines on this flight to Atlanta are pretty loud.47 points

Townsend is a box to check regarding today’s trends. Texas managed the aggie NIL push coupled with the “we have no one better on the roster and you’ll be playing immediately” pitch.47 points

Glad you got something to bitch about with a 1/2/3 class and a sec title game appearance the same week. Was going to be a tough week for you but you fought through. Respect.34 points

I'm going to push the narrative that we didn't flip fat body DJ Sanders becuase we forced aTm to spend their Hilson money to retain him, and it was all pure gamesmanship by Sark. If he's not forcing Elko to take timeouts becuase our personnel flummoxes him, we're forcing him to pay 2x the market for a beanbag chair with matchstick legs at the IDL position.29 points

100% they would've denied it. UnitedHealthCare denied me coverage for a heart blockage because they said I should've never been admitted to the hospital with "undetermined chest pain" so the blockage should've never been discovered.28 points

Over the last decade, we've had several highly ranked classes, while going 5-7 and talking about how the class could contribute to the rebuild. Today, we have a highly ranked class (#1 at the moment ), while this is happening ... :-)))27 points

Boy, they still have it in their heads that our culture is bad, we don't develop talent, and that we are weak in the trenches. They got all that after we pushed their shit in for 60 straight minutes playing a 3 star backup LT, a 3 star LG, a 3 star C and a 3 star TE. And our walkon safety picked them off, broke up another pass and had a TFL while delivering an emotional post-game speech about a fallen teammate while showing an incredible amount of restraint and class. But yeah... it's all about NIL and Texas buying players. That's the only reason Texas is any good. We've had top 5 recruiting classes forever and jack shit to show for it.21 points

We’re getting some legit, pipe-hittin’ mutherfuckas in this class. And knowing they’ll be developed? It’s a good time to be a Horn.21 points

This thread could very well be about how, despite several buffoons on this board loudly complaining otherwise, this former walk-on safety has been the best player on the field for short stretches despite playing on one of the most talented Texas defenses in recent memory. Or for the Blake Gideon and Dylan Haines jokes. Frankly it’s unbelievable this thread title is said without irony or sarcasm. But I also wanted to highlight and memorialize Taaffe’s postgame remarks in response to that heinous game day sign, because the remarks demonstrate remarkable character and why he is an exemplary representative of this program. For the uninformed, some red ass “blue collar salt of the earth” ag inexplicably brought a sign to College Gameday making fun of deceased Texas walk on Jake Ehlinger, who tragically passed away in a fentanyl-related accident. Obviously this behavior doesn’t represent the entire Texas A&M fanbase. Most alumni would condemn this once understanding the context, and many already have (although I am sure everyone here has met exceptions and can debate in another thread). But unlike most game day signs and taunts, this one actually provokes a reaction. Austin is now a big city but it is still a small community in a lot of ways. The Ehlingers live and work here. If you’ve met this family and know what they have been through in the past, that gameday sign gets even more odious. So in the postgame press conference Michael Taaffe somehow trumps his cathartic performance on the field with remarks far better than anything I could have come up with: “I want to say I feel sorry for the person that posted that sign. I feel sorry for him because I don't know what he's going through, how much he's dealing with in life. To think that that was a good idea, to think that was OK, to think that was appropriate for anything, no matter what rivalry. I just wanted to make that clear." The national media and our fanbase will quickly move on from this win because at the end of the day we just beat a middling 8-4 SEC team. But I felt that Michael Taaffe’s maturity and passion deserves special recognition and it shouldn’t get buried in a game thread. Proud he’s a Longhorn.20 points

Yep he’s lucky af. He should have had life threatening injuries then get denied all kinds of rehab/meds/DME etc. That’s the American dream this POS and others in his industry have created.20 points
