  3. If I had one year to up my draft stock, I would definitely choose Auburn over playing wr for Sark or Kiffin. That's a solid business decision.

  4. Just quoting this one as being on topic for the topic, not particularly responding to this, but it's also relevant. My Dad worked his way up from Accountant I to Director of Accounting at Texas Health and Human Services Dept. In the 30 years he worked there the state shifted from Dem run to Rep run. Once the Reps came in, every few years they'd try to bring in a private contractor to, allegedly, make things more efficient. None of them lasted very long because they didn't understand the scope of work and inevitably under bid the project because they didn't realize that most of the inefficiencies were written in the law and, thus, couldn't just be streamlined. Each time they would come to him and say "Why do we have to do it this way?" Every single time the answer was "Because the legislature made this law because some private company found a loophole in the law and corn holed the tax payers out of millions of dollars." Do you know why it takes three forms and three levels of approval to buy a pencil? Because, some outside business found a hole the rules so that they could charge $5 for a $ .20 pencil and bilked the state for millions before it was discovered. They also didn't grasp the size of the budget or the services they would be required to provide, and thus were incredibly understaffed and inefficient because they thought providing hundreds of thousands of people services costing billions of dollars would be easy if they could just get their MBA asses on the job and find all the alleged bloat. Then they found out there wasn't nearly as much bloat as they thought. In fact, considering what they provided, it's a miracle they can do it with what they have.

  8. Zelensky to Orban and Trump: fuck off https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2024/12/18/7489634/ "I insist that no leader in the world has the right to negotiate with Putin on behalf of Ukraine. We have never delegated this mandate to anyone. We are the victims. It would be unfair if everyone started saying how the country should live. The French people in France, Italians in Italy or Americans in the United States know what they want for themselves. So do Ukrainians." - President Zelensky

  9. I have read so much bullshit from people who overstate the challenges they have to face while simultaneously minimizing the challenges others face. But let's get real. You believed the "I am from the government and I am here to help" bullshit/lie and ran with it. The military, police, roads, sewage, vaccines, education, treaties, building codes, firemen, GPS you use to not get lost, road signs, stop signs, stop lights, zoning so you don't live next to a chemical plant and drink polluted water, that is all from the fucking government you deride while enjoying the benefits of. It was the oil industry who turned to the government to ask for regulations to prevent another spindletop situation. It was the public who cried out for food safety after they read Sinclair's The Jungle. You deride the education that allowed you to hire or paid for the person who hired and mentored you. You likely claim to be a self-made man, while ignoring the society that nurtured your development and cared for you.

  12. We took a family vacation to Albania a couple of years ago (yes, really). It was a very cool country and we had a great time in the mountains and on the Adriatic coast. Tons of history, natural beauty, interesting sights, and all dirt cheap. It's basically a no-frills vacation with the same coastline as Greece and Croatia but at a third of the cost. Adventurous and not always easy, but totally worth it. The only weird thing is that virtually everyone kept asking about a&m football; everywhere we went it was like "Can we please come with you to America to strong-arm aggy donors, admin and coaches so the team can finally beat App State and get that elusive ninth win?" Really unexpected, but I appreciated their interest.

This website includes a wonderful group of people, who know their stuff and can carry on very interesting conversations about a wide swath of topics including all things Texas Longhorns football...along with a bunch of the absolute dumbest motherfuckers in the history of the internet somehow hanging out on the outside of the circle and posting way way way too much.

  18. I don't really know how to say this nicely, but there is not a single transfer WR who knows (or cares) who the fuck Silas Bolden is. And the idea that a Sark/Manning led offense will be anything other than enticing for a transfer WR is insane. Depth chart concerns (read: Ryan Wingo) are really the only thing potentially working against us, the rest of your post is genuine nonsense.

  19. Don’t worry because we’re intentionally and openly returning to the spoils system as Andrew Jackson intended. Also it turns out Jackson’s presidency is a fantastic analogue for Trump from committing horrific atrocities rounding up minorities, to large scale destabilization of economic policies, and elevating an army of unqualified loyalists to government jobs. The difference being that a democratic administration actually came in and invested in jobs, expanded manufacturing, cooled inflation and the American people said “fuck that responsible governance garbage- the prior guy only just started to irreparably damage everything. Lets do that but without anyone around to tell him no”

  20. Ive worked in the public sector a long time. Sometimes in a capacity in which a mistake would cost many lives. That's pressure. Not trying to hit your quota end of fiscal year.

  21. Retaining rosters is more expensive than portal and high school combined. If you’re going to pursue productive, proven players from the portal, you need plenty of capital. That said, LSU is doing okay in the portal and they’re relatively poor. When you get below the very elite in the portal, the numbers appear to come off pretty quickly Some programs are betting more on projects or failing pedigree or G5 and FCS players. That route isn’t expensive at all. As in high school recruiting, some idiot with a lot of money can impact various recruitments. The DT from UCF is a good player, just like Damonic Williams was a good player. Neither guy is worth $1M+ and there are others near their replacement values or that can be combined to get to replacement value who cost a fraction of their numbers. Oregon spent big on positions of need last year, wiping everyone else out. Some of those guys hit and will be high draft picks. That’s a level above what the idiots at Tech and LSU and OU have tried.

  22. I love it at 0:25 when he says Kliff would've stayed with me and we would have ran it back and gone for "ANOTHER ONE". Another what? Another 4th place finish (out of 6) in the SEC west and another Chick-fil-A bowl championship? How is this dude still getting air time?

  23. Bingo. I've crossed paths with MANY public sector employees in a professional capacity. Like any other pool of people, there are some shitty performers and some dead-weight. But the vast majority take their jobs quite seriously (the people depend on them for some pretty essential things), and they face enormous pressure - from their superiors, from the public (which wants A+ services while paying the lowest taxes/fees). I've worked with people who were proud to have kept a critical system functioning on a shoestring budget, literally held together in some places with bolts and baling wire, because that's what the public demanded (by the way, the deferred maintenance costs ALWAYS catch up with you eventually, no matter what the public demands). Truly, I've worked with hundreds if not thousands of people in both the public and private sector. And in my experience, the percentage of dead-weight/drones/I-don't-give-a-shit folks is about the same wherever you go. Small private companies, big private companies, small public sector employers and big ones. I know this is hard to believe, but there are actually people who are really proud of the jobs they do, providing things like drinking water, electricity, transportation, and the like to their fellow citizens. They know they don't make the biggest bucks, but they are genuinely happy doing what they do.

  24. My Aggie cousin, Otis, read your post and said "I got the same reaction in College Station. I was leaving after the tu game when these big, strong Albanians came up to me with tears in their eyes. They looked like mobsters but really they were just an average Albanian family. They said they were so impressed by how beautiful Kyle Field was and how friendly and hospitable A&M fans were 'even after you ran out of time.' They said that Sarkisian is actually an Albanian name and the Sarkisian family is known throughout Albania for cheating and has been for at least 1000 years. Then they hinted that they knew some people in Albania who could set things right if we need them to do it. Even though I was very upset by the way the sips had clearly bribed the refs during the game I said 'no, I'd rather lose to those cheaters than get dragged down to their level.' They were amazed that somebody in my position, having just witnessed the sordid things I did, could be so gracious. I said 'It's well known throughout Texas and the United States that grace under fire is just the Aggie way,' leaving them with a life lesson in humility and grace that they will hopefully never forget."

  27. Same here. After 30+ years in corporate America I was downsized because 50-something middle managers w/ pensions are easy targets for elimination. I've been working for the COA for almost 18 mos and been promoted from supervisor to manager in that time. I'm re-energized, enjoying new challenges, and am enjoying the process of teaching my direct reports how to work with a different mindset while developing their leadership skills. Corporate or government. Makes no difference. Bureaucracy exists in both arenas.
