This thread is an outlet for sadness, not anger or what could have been. Many of you met me this season, some for the first time and many who I've now grown to look forward to seeing every game. I'm sad that I won't be seeing any of you in Atlanta on January 20th. This was my oldest son Gunnar's first real season of Longhorn football. His first college football game ever inside a stadium at the big house for an incredible win in his maternal grandfathers season ticket seats surrounded by Michigan family members to cap off a long family trip. He got to experience his first Texas OU at fair park. Started some Texas Fight chants on my shoulders and is absolutely convinced that OU does in fact suck. He got to go to his first game ever in DKR with our dear friends to watch until the very end and sing the eyes for the first time with 100k people in DKR. VID_20241221_204005_122.mp4 I'm sad that Gunnar got in his spiderman muscle suit because it makes him "look like he has shoulder pads" and was so invested in the game, got to stay up late and had to go to bed wondering why Texas lost if Ohio State sucked. You may or may not have noticed, but I've been wearing this longhorns bracelet I got in Cozumel this January. I've not taken it off since the guy made it for me while I was off getting cash out of the ATM to pay for my wife and kids ones because he noticed I had Longhorns gear on. I knew this season was going to be special and I wanted to wear that bracelet the whole season then frame it with some memorabilia commemorating a national championship season. Now it's just a symbol of sadness. It's off the wrist and that makes me sad. I know that there's another season and I know Texas is set up for long term sustained success, but that still shouldn't stop us from being able to just be sad about this for little bit. Share your stories here, or don't, but please don't make this thread about anger or what ifs. Hook 'Em 🤘47 points

Motherfucker the Palsades fire is moving over the hill to the valley. Professionally we have an office building at Ventura blvd. This shit needs to end. i had an angel come down and bless us. One of my lifelong friends (I was his best man) has offered his Hancock Park parents home to my family. His 92 year old father was just moved out to assisted living and they were getting ready to sell it. But we’ll get it for the next couple of weeks while we wait to be let back into our home. It’s a true miracle for us.43 points

Thank you for the biggest portal transfer for us and making this team better than it was before. Yeah, I might’ve said you should be pulled for Arch but you balled out most of the time. Led us 2 years in a row to the final 4. Sorry Sark screwed you. And sometimes you would contribute. But I still appreciate you. Hate you had to go out like this. I am ready for the Arch era but thank you for all you did. We hate to love you and love to hate you. Hook em, Quinn. (If you wanna shit on him stay in the Quinn thread) You are the first and last qb I will ever sign a petition for lol42 points

Disappointed? Yes. I don’t know how you don’t run it 4 times from the 1. Stupid Blame Ewers? No. He won 12 and 13 games in back to back seasons. We won 8 games in a season twice since Colt left. The amount of shit he gets is retarded. We didn’t win the championship but put some respect on that man. He bleeds burnt orange and left it all out there for Texas. Imagine not having your best RB and missing your top 2 receivers…that’s what he dealt with. He didn’t make the play call on 2nd down. Coaching? Sark has built a culture. He’s transformed us from a team of underachievers to a perrenial power. He fucked up on the play call. Sucks that it didn’t work out. That’s the type of play that will haunt him until August. Hopefully our coaches come up with a better call the next time we are in this position, Outlook bright? Hell yes. We get a chance to send a message at the end of August in Columbus. There is no reason this team isn’t playing for it all next season.24 points

Quinn brought us the first huge transfer in the portal. He brought us huge wins over Bama, aggy, ou, Michigan, and so many others. He got us a Big 12 title and a victory lap around that conference. He got us to the SEC championship game and two final fours. All fantastic and worthy of celebrating. Most importantly he did it all without drama. Texas is a fishbowl and that particular position comes with more stress and heat than any other sports position on campus, across sports. And having Arch as second string would've torpedoed team chemistry with the wrong QB1. Quinn handled all of that with grace. He is leaving with a great reputation as a leader, a teammate, and as a great representative of UT. Hook 'em, Quinn. You're a certified badass motherfucker.22 points

I’ll probably get torched for this post (bad timing for that comment) but you guys had a great season. No, it didn’t end with a national championship, but that only lands on one of 133 teams. You were one of the very best. Be pissed you lost. I get that. But be proud that you got to the semis. That’s hard to do. Very hard. And you guys are set up for long term success. I wish we had 1/4 of the resources you have. You may very well be here next year. That’s something most of us only dream of. You are positioned to do it.21 points

Quinn was a good QB who put some big pelts on the wall: @ Alabama @ Michigan Clemson 2 epic blowouts of ou Etc. And this program is in way better shape than when he got here. Thanks, 3.20 points

He's exactly what we were begging for under charlie and turtle. Left big 12 with title. Back to back playoffs. Put Texas back into contention. Beat Aggie 49-0 ousux. Made Texas football fun again. Wish the very best for him.20 points

You WERE this team and the reason we were 1 yard and a few stops from playing and beating Notre Dame for the national championship. If only we could have paired you with a worthy offense, what could have been. Thank you to Broughton, Gbenda, Sorrell, Barron, Mukuba and the other departing seniors for almost singlehandedly willing us all the way to the finish line. Hook 'Em [emoji1598]19 points

I get why you don’t like Ewers. he’s the kinda guy to dive head first into a linebacker because he knows we need the yards. He’s not perfect, but he’s damned good and leaving it all on the field. You aren’t the kind of person to think through what that requires or how to adjust your expectations. You’ve always struck me as being more of a Casey Thompson type of guy. Preening. Whining. Like you think you’ve done enough just by showing up, and if things don’t go right it must be someone else’s fault. It’s not really your fault. You just weren’t raised right and maybe you don’t have any real friends. But if your brain is really reflected in the takes you post on this board, you should know that your point of view is not healthy, normal, or in step with how the world and people actually work. Go fuck yourself.19 points

Guys, 13-3 is a pretty goddamned good season. We were in the top 4 in the country, again, with an offense that was thrown together with duct tape and bubble gum after Ewers' best 2 WR targets, 2 amazing NFL-caliber RBs all entered the draft, and our stud #1 RB had a season-ending injury. Our defense went from a question mark to one of the elite defenses in the country, if not the best. It's easy to forget when we lose that sometimes the other team has good coaches and players, too. It's not like we lost to two shitty teams or anything. I still hold Sark & Co to the expectation that they'll win a national title, but damn, do you realize how far we've come in four years? He's not Seven Win Steve anymore, he's Semifinals Steve. Won two playoff games and made it to the semifinals. Defenestrated A&M in Collie Station. Depantsed Arkansas in Fayettenam. Beat the ever loving shit out of OU. Pretty damned good, and we're about to reload.17 points

That no-look flip to the RB right before his knee hit, and him taking on 2 defenders head first just trying to get the first down. I’ll always remember those 2 plays16 points

I am going to be largely avoiding the football board for the next month or so to avoid the rampant vaginitis around here, but wanted to stop in to drop this little knowledge nugget: aggy has won a total of 28 games in the last four years. Texas has won 25 in the last two. Hook'em! 🤘15 points

Just wanted to say Thank You for getting to live vicariously through yall. Pokes season inexplicably went to crusty ass and I followed ya’ll more closely than normal…to the point I ate the insane ticket prices and screamed my heart out last night. Even bought my first new UT gear in ages…an “I’m Horny” longhorns shirt. Dude, I’m heart broken. We had shitty upper level seats right above the far corner of the end zone from where QE gave up the sack fumble. Right up until that moment I was confident they were going to pull it out, and when the tOSU side started going ballistic I had to get out of there…I was fuckin INVESTED. Was a great ride, so glad ya’ll are back to national prominence. You have the highest Good Fan :: Douchebag ratio of any of the blue bloods, finally have a coach, and despite never really having a solid 60 minute game…almost played for a natty. No consolation to ya’ll, but in the NFL-lite era, and with OK State never being a part of the Big Boys Club…I’m ecstatic to see you guys standing toe-to-toe with the assholes of the world.14 points

Is he 100%? Hard to say. Jeremiah Smith also had 3 yards against Texas last night, they should spend that money elsewhere.14 points

fuck sadness. what is this, the let’s fucking cry thread? we had a great season, and missed a championship opportunity by just a couple of plays at the highest level of competition. again. i’m not thrilled with the outcome, and it wasn’t our standard. but these posts shitting on our team, blaming quinn, sark, running game inconsistencies, whatever, they’re shit posts. wake the fuck up, get better, stop crying, and realize we’re very fucking close. this is some loser mentality bullshit. move on. the solution is to donate, trust in what we’ve been been building towards, and understanding the level we’re aiming to reach is right there. as if kirby’s georgia, harbaugh’s michigan, dabo’s clemson, and even day’s ohio state didn’t go through their own tribulations. we’re coming too. wipe the fucking tears off and let’s go.14 points
-
I woke up disappointed, obviously, but really proud of my team. When I heard about Baxter's injury, I wondered way back then if that had cost us a championship. Then the injuries kept coming. And we still got this close to winning the SEC (in spite of a lot of fuckery) and a national championship game. This team overcame a lot this year. And a lot of them will be back. Next year, we take the next steps.13 points

Quinn gave us all he had and we are light years better than we were when he arrived. Hook ‘em, Quinn!13 points

Just watching a live local LA news broadcast and a reporter said he had talked to a local professional drone pilot who's pissed off and is on a mission to track all the illegal drone flights into the fire area. I guess he can track their flights online or something. He said there have been at least 12 drones that have operated illegally there, and he's seen some of their videos they've posted online & bragged about. He also thinks he's pinned down which one struck the Canadian plane and thinks he has determined who the pilot is.12 points

Took my son to his first ever TX/OU game. I was a bit nervous cause of all the previous years under Brown watching us underperform. Watched QE absolutely destroy OU. Watched OU fan rip off his OU shirt and put on a Texas shirt. Saw OU fans crying. My son turned to me in the 3rd quarter and said “This is the best thing I have ever seen in my life!” Thank you Quinn and Hookem!12 points
-
Going back in the game to some earlier frustrations. Gbenda gets the INT on first 3rd quarter OSU drive. Our first offensive play is 10 yards and a first down. Then run for 1 yard on 1st down, run again for -2 yards (this particular play call was infuriating), then a checkdown pass to Wisner on 3rd and long, punt. Be aggressive, Sark! Take a fucking shot. Dial up that special play call. Try to seize the momentum. Fuck. 3rd and 5ish first play of 4th quarter at our own 44, Quinn misses an open Golden for an easy 1st down. The game was tied, and there's a good chance we take the lead for the first time in that game if we convert. Just a massive play that has to be executed.12 points
-
This game has demonstrated that beyond a shadow of a doubt now that Sark needs to hire an actual OC to call plays. Sark needs to focus on designing the offense and turn over the play calling duties to someone else. Last night’s disastrous play calling with the national championship on the line should be enough evidence to anyone watching he cannot do both jobs.12 points
-
We were about to tie the game with 3 minutes left until Sark called arguably the worst play call in Texas football history and one of the worst plays ever called in the postseason of college football by any team. Ohio State was beatable and we were right there. Texas is every bit as good as this Ohio State team. It’s a shame our head coach choked in the most magnificent way possible in the worst possible moment.12 points

Can't wait to lose to Oklahoma because we just keep spamming IZ. Yeah, it was a surreal feeling to see Texas come out and win the third quarter. But I got a really bad feeling with Quinn airmailed that ball to Golden. I think it was generally a well coached game except for the deep nickel zone blitz on the long screen TD right before half and the flabbergasting second down sweep call at the goal line. Unfortunately those two plays ultimately doomed Texas in game with such tight margins. Texas was going to have to coach and execute at as high of a level as they did all year to win and they didn't quite get it done. It is what it is. This team still beat the everloving fuck out of Michigan, OU, and A&M; went to OT in the SEC CG; and beat the ACC and B12 champions en route to a national semifinal and 13-3 season. It was a successful year even if I'm sitting here a little disappointed. Tough way to lose but they competed and were right there and that's all you can ask for. Hang around at this level long enough and it'll break for you. At least that's what I tell myself. Honestly the SEC CG loss hurt more than this one. Ohio State is just better and Texas didn't play/coach quite well enough to win. There were many times where the game could have gotten away from them but they managed to stay in it. In the conference championship, Texas was the one with many chances to break the game open and never cashed in, and it came back to bite them. Quinn is what he is; I'm grateful to him as the guy who oversaw the turnaround and wish him well but I'm very much ready to see what this offense looks like under a new QB. Fill out the DL in the portal and all of a sudden next year looks really promising. The window is open for a few years at least. It didn't happen for Bama, Georgia, or Michigan until it did. Onward.12 points

My daughter's school held a potluck dinner and gathering last night for our community. 19 families lost their homes. Watching children console other children was beautiful and heartbreaking On a more practical level, can any of you insurance folks give me an opinion on whether it's worth involving insurance on addressing smoke and soot damage inside the house? Or is that asking for higher rates and/or getting dropped (assuming that's not happening anyway.) I went by again yesterday and there's a fine layer of black soot on everything. Already snagged an appointment with one of those disaster cleaning crews for later in the week. Planning on moving back in today and doing basic cleaning - all bedding, wipe down surfaces, etc.11 points

Oline was the biggest weakness of the team in the post-season. Their run blocking vs UGA, ASU and tOSU was embarrassing.11 points

I think the refs tried ot say uncatchable. But it was uncatchable because of the PI. Moral of the story, just keep interfering in the end zone and dare them to keep throwing the flags because eventually they will stop.11 points

Woke up this morning, went for a run, worked out, ate some breakfast, then sat down and started thinking about that last shit-ass goal line series one more time. GD it that sucked. Now I have to finish taking down the rest of the Christmas decorations that I've been stalling on, and I was looking forward to watching some playoff football while doing so, but I no longer have any desire to watch any football at all, because football is dead to me. For now.10 points

Quinn seems to be a great young man and he loved playing for the University of Texas. He deserves respect and I think his overall legacy at Texas is secured and people will generally be positive about it over time. The victory at Alabama was a sea change moment for this program and he led the way that night. And 4th and 13 will live on. The expectations were always high and a lot of his defenders felt that was unfair. But we are Texas. And QB expectations are always high. But the larger issue is he and his camp set those expectations themselves from the beginning. Reclassifying and skipping your senior season of high school, particularly as a QB and #1 recruit in the country, was a huge deal and truly elevated everyone's expectations. That's gonna create or add to the "prodigy" or "generational" label. I have zero inside info and will admit it's a bit unfair to speculate, but I would guess that QE personally didn't really want to skip his senior year. I watched a good interview with him recently, and he basically said the best time of his life was playing High School football at SLC with his friends. He loved every minute of it. His family/team seem to be pretty influential, and I'd guess they pushed it. Then he becomes maybe the first big name to score a huge NIL deal at Ohio State. That too will add to the hype and expectations. His QB trainer is Mahomes' trainer. I bet he is was miserable sitting 3rd or 4th string in Columbus and not playing his real Senior year with his HS buddies. But he got paid at least. He transfers to Texas shortly after and is named the starter right away. The rest is now history. But let's be real and accept that a lot of the "unfair expectations" were self-inflicted.10 points
