Haha. I just have professional and/or personal relationships with a bunch of the people who fund the OSU AD. I actually received better info during the Tressel and Urban regimes because some of the people I know had long-term personal relationships with those guys. Day is obviously not an Ohio guy. The Smith info is rock solid and comes from the inner circle of the OSU NIL guys. I don’t care whether you believe it or not but some people here appreciate the info so I will continue to provide interesting tidbits that are shared with me,55 points

There will always be people who push the limits. It is absolutely wild to me that there are Texas fans who want to go back to a world where instead of requiring a billionaire like Knight or Ellison to keep players from Texas for financial reasons, Jim Bob's Used Auto Yard outside Tuscaloosa can do it.28 points

Okay, y'all, as promised, I have some Longhorn news to share. I got to hang with Arch Manning today in a stadium doing football-type stuff. It was really fun. We sometimes forget that these are young men, and he is just a another super-chill guy who likes to have fun. He's taller than I thought he would be in real life. Like every Texas player I've been fortunate enough to meet in the last three years, he is very approachable. Texas really does pick the best. What a great representative he is for the school. And to top it off, @immamac, I got him to add his signature to the Sacred '24-'25 Surly Horns Football. The ball now has the following signatures: Arch Manning Quinn Ewers Isaiah Bond Jhadie Barron Tre Wisner Gunnar Helm The ball is already a treasure that will forever remind us of some of the best players from this magical season, but I am going to see if I can continue to add to it. I will share pics when I'm allowed to. Thanks and Hook 'Em!28 points

I have an example of a special rule I used yesterday. I have some rental properties and I have a tenant that had trouble keeping current on her rent for a while. When I was considering whether to evict her at the end of this month, she went on a tirade about how it’s Biden’s fault she can’t pay her rent because he spent all the money that’s rightfully hers on supporting “illegals and gays.” She then said she voted for Trump because somehow he’s going to fix all of her problems. That tipped the scales for my decision, she’s now got 3 days until she’s out on her ass. In the past, my conscience would not have allowed me to be this harsh, but I’ve had it with these morons. Different rules in my world now…..I’ll just call it the dumbass tax. I’ll add - it’s a good thing this property is in a “red” state where the laws allow me to be such an asshole landlord. If this property was in California, she would have a lot more protection under the law to stay in place.27 points

The first to break that under the table would be our mouth breathing conference rivals and Texas would be right back where we were 5 years ago.26 points

But not kidding, why are we still embedding Twitter on surly? If the owners and site leadership agree that the owner is acting like a Nazi and the site is acting more as a dissemination source for hate, racism, and disinformation, what are we even doing here? Is that something you'd be interested in putting out for a poll @immamac?24 points

And "Christians" like Frank Drebin wonder why church rolls keep dropping year after year. Ran across this just now but I wasn't sure if it was already posted. Doug is a good husband. He gave that MAGA choad the treatment he deserved. https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/trump-president-news-01-21-25#cm66zac9e00053b6me5fppoqa Edward-Isaac Dovere @IsaacDovere NEW from me: before the inauguration, Sen. Deb Fischer's husband— who went viral for his interaction w/Harris a few weeks ago—went to shake Doug Emhoff's hand Emhoff refused: “Why would you try to shake my hand when you wouldn’t shake my wife’s hand?”22 points

The Office of Personnel Management is shutting down all DEI programs and putting employees on administrative leave in preparation for a Reduction in Force. We can argue that, and have opinions, but the fact is that absent a ruling or act of Congress, this is something within the executive’s power to do and this executive told people he would do it. The disturbing part here is Annex I. It directs ALL employees— whether they worked on DEI or not— to rat out colleagues who have been and who lawfully and within the scope of directions might have reframed DEI activities in advance of the new admin. It promises no consequences for reporting but adverse consequences if you were aware but do not. This is Soviet shit. Placing the onus of reporting on everyone, introducing vague consequences that can be dangled over everyone’s head, direct people to find your political enemies for you rather than doing the bureaucratic work yourself. This is dark, and it’s normalizing repressive behavior. This is not asking employees to have an affirmative duty to report law breaking or security risks or violations of rules. https://chcoc.gov/sites/default/files/OPM Memo Initial Guidance Regarding DEIA Executive Orders.pdf20 points

So, just to compile all of the excuses for Elon in one place: he's too socially awkward, spastic, (possibly autistic), and uncomfortable in front of crowds to be expected to process in real time that he probably shouldn't (repeatedly) salute his outstretched arm in the air with his palm down on a pulpit in front of millions, regardless of intent. But that kind of person with limited ability for critical thought, impulse control, and foresight being tied to the hip of our current president, our military, our space program, AI, and the EV industry is A-OK. That about sum things up?19 points

So I just read someone post "Those are the words of a false prophet that has no personal relationship with Christ." And he was talking about the bishop. Not Donald Trump. Is this real life?19 points

I think he got fatwa’d for shit-talking Quinn after the last game. He was a decent contributor on the HS football thread but he probably got tired of me dogwalking him with my superior knowledge on the south texas teams. Dumbass is going to miss out on my RGV preseason rankings in August.17 points

Texas fans defending the same Clay Travis who wrote attack articles against the Longhorns and generally just bad mouths us every chance he gets... Guess politics are really important to some people.16 points

There was a stretch where Moore dropped a few easy ones. I'm a fan. 39 catches and 7 TDs in his first real year of action. 9-114 and our only TD on great run after catch in SEC championship game. Arch has a good rapport with him. He's gonna kill it this year.16 points

Thinking through this a bit more. Maybe I'll change the DNS records for the oembed URL to just go to a blackhole and it'll error and just paste the link. Testing this afternoon.16 points

She, literally, pleaded for him to be what Christ preached and he, of course, rips her and takes the opposite position. You know the opposite of what Christ said Christians should do. And all the "Christians" who support him will 100% back what he says. @Frank Drebin Christians love to live their lives directly opposing Christian ideals.16 points

Part of the problem is I want to host everything. I hate when people upload or link from other sites. I own a lot of infrastructure and optimized it so that it stays here and is delivered fast. Surly serves up images and video faster than most every other platform. In the next version of the software I'm waiting for to come out before I do significant things I'm also going to enable video transcoding with GPUs so people can upload videos here and it's a lot better of an experience than it is now.15 points

For the shit we have given Muhammad, he ultimately decided to stay at Texas. He’s not super charitable, but ultimately the whole package at Texas was better than whatever he was getting offered by clowns in the ACC and Oregon. D Moore? Less so. For a guy who dropped like 15 passes this year, he and his mother sure think highly of his abilities. I guess Sarkisian does too. Maybe mix in a few more catches in 2025, buddy.15 points

I fucking love Wikipedia. I honestly believe that it's an example of humanity at its best. It's a throwback to a long-gone era of the internet that had so much promise. Maybe one of the last throwbacks. I've been terrified for a while now of the day that it became a political target. In my heart I always knew it was just a matter of time, because literally everything must be politicized now. I know that people have tried before, but those people generally weren't the richest person on Earth, with a direct line to the president of the United States. I fear that this is the beginning of the end for Wikipedia. Can't say how sad that makes me.15 points

It's like he stopped mentally growing as a bully in 3rd grade. He uses the same language over and over with anything he dislikes. "Nasty, not smart, boring, not very good at her job, owes an apology, ungracious." He believes power is in fear and how much you have in your checking account. I can't call him my President because he's not at all presidential - he gives no joy or hope. He's not uplifting, he's just a hateful, immature old man and I have less than zero respect for him. He's vapor.15 points

My wife and I are part of the queer community. I can call myself a tranny all day long, I can deadname myself all day long. By permission she can too though she doesn’t. she posted a tweet where someone said congrats to government gonna call you by your deadname. Yeah it’s kinda funny. But it’s not carte blanche endorsement of every body doing it. Sticks and stones I don’t give fuck. You’re not listening. but fuck it I don’t care, my blood pressure is through the roof today trying to keep it under 160/xx as I try to make sense of the legal ramifications of bills filed in the Texas legislature and this damn executive order Trump signed that literally erase my existence. its about to become a hellscape. Enjoy your right to be a dumbass, hope it’s not taken away from you.14 points

The goal of the name change is the same as all language warfare. To inject politics into daily life and turn it into a place for more running battles and opportunities to either demonstrate solidarity or be noted as an opponent. We are channeling Bolsheviks on this, it’s very Marxist.13 points

Here's ONE of my favorite parts of this -- how Trump lied, yet again, because that's not just what he does, it is what he IS. "Liar" is his very nature. "She failed to mention the large number of illegal immigrants that came into our Country and killed people." She LITERALLY fucking acknowledged the criminal nature of some immigrants by noting that many are NOT criminals. Her exact words: That statement plainly states that while some immigrants indeed are criminals...."the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals." Oh, and another thing I love -- it's apparently WRONG to "bring your church into the world of politics." Huh. FASCINATING. I had no idea that was such a great wrong: The theology on this shit is not complicated. And what truly fascinates me is that the evangelical movement has been so focused on "the Antichrist" for decades.....that the first chance they got to swear fealty to the Antichrist, they prostrated themselves before him with vigor and enthusiasm. Fucking amazing.13 points

I think this conversation is a good indicator of why the left keeps losing elections. Instead of rallying around the fuckery or laughing at the fools who opted to get fucked over by it, we are on here bickering and trying to educated one another to have our standards. A lifelong friend changed his name legally. We have been friends since we were little kids, and it was very difficult for me to simply switch a name, compounded by the infrequency of our visits, after 2 years he let me off the hook. He knew I was trying, but I just struggled to get over the entrenchment.13 points
