  1. Paid $50k finders fee on top of the cost of the vehicle. Sideswiped by a fucking scooter caused the vehicle to be "totaled". And insurance won't cover the full cost.

  2. Except it is stupid and bad because Denmark is a treaty Ally, and a good one at that, and we could address nearly all of the legitimate security issues by talking to them instead of threatening them. All except making it β€œours.” I am not sure at all where this messaging is coming from that Denmark is shitty and mistreats Greenlanders. They have nearly full autonomy and get most of their budget paid for by Denmark. They get to be EU citizens with full freedom of movement. They are fine enough that they have the luxury to turn down major extractive projects over environmental concerns. It’s not like it’s so awesome to be an American Samoan or Guamanian and we’re so much better. This bit is a lot of posturing and just giving cash payments to Greenlanders raises the question of if PR and Samoans get one, too.

  8. My wife and I drove through upper Altadena west of Lake this afternoon. The destruction is complete there. I mean blocks and blocks and blocks of utter and complete devastation, with not one house standing. And then drove through other areas closer to us and still just mass destruction. It is incomprehensible how bad it is. I can’t absorb it. It’s surreal. Whatever people in Texas think it is, it’s a million times worse.

  9. You guys are hyping Justus Terry in ways that aren’t doing him any favors. I don’t get it. He’s not even close to 300 pounds and will be undersized in year one. He’s probably going to be awesome, but expecting true freshman DTs to win the day is not a good recipe for success.

  14. First - I commented in the AFC title game thread that if any former Horn was perfectly suited to play for a team with massive media distractions and hate and a target on their back every week then it's Worthy. Dude craves attention and loves the spotlight and plays with a chip on his shoulder every time he takes the field. That out of the way - KC doesn't win that game without Worthy. 101 yds from scrimmage on 8 touches with a touchdown. He had a ton of doubters coming into the league but he's proven he can hang and just balled out on the 2nd biggest stage in the game. Hate the Chiefs or not it's fun to see him out there killing it and only gives Sark and Co. more recruiting ammo to keep getting top flight WRs.

  29. Yeah, I would be extremely cautious about correlating pictures of fireballs to damages to the refinery itself. Sending a ship to the bottom of the sea is much easier to conform than discreet damages to an intricate maze of hundreds of pipelines and manifolds, process units, storage vessels, heaters &coolers, etc. First, damn near everything in an oil refinery is flammable, and will make big fireballs. From the pictures and video’s taken at night it is impossible to tell what is burning. Big difference between process towers rupturing and burning as compared to a storage tank or pipeline. A world class refinery may have 30-50 different process units located across a 2-4 square mile area. Hitting the biggest one may take out the majority of the processing capacity, while hitting a smaller one may have a negligible effect. Without a very clear understanding of what was hit and is burning, it is extremely difficult to tell from a picture. Full disclosure, I am a gas processing/natural gas liquids SME, not a refining guy. If one had a detailed plot plan overlaid with the explosions and fires, it would be easier to tell what was damaged. I don’t think I have seen any posting or discussion with that level of detail. I don’t doubt that information exists, but it isn’t in the public domain. However, like body blows to a boxer, the cumulative effects of multiple attacks and explosions and fires decreases the overall capacity and efficiency of the facility. Chicks dig the long ball everybody likes explosions and fireballs.

  30. Yeah, there's a point here. I don't think the Chiefs are getting any more home cooking than a lot of other dynasties or great players. That doesn't mean I have to like it when my team gets absolutely ass fucked like they did last weekend. And people aren't imagining it. Greg Maddux's strike zone really was 3 inches off both sides of the plate, Michael Jordan's traveling really was 4 steps when everybody else's was 3, and Patrick Mahomes gets calls other QB's don't. It doesn't mean those players aren't also great. But millions of people's eyes aren't deceiving them, either.

  34. This thread could really just be titled living under authoritarian and/or fascist regimes, as violence is a feature not a bug. Whether perpetrated by the regime itself or by citizens against the regime or each other, it's what happens when the powerful make (to quote Carlo Testa) "empty promises in response to real questions, real issues, and real problems β€” promises which are not kept, or are only kept to the extent that they serve the ruling classes’ own interests. The central concept is a perfunctory β€œsymbolic” appeasement of the masses through things like direct propaganda, architecture, sports, the media, cinema, etc." These promises are made to specific groups but not others, in an attempt to "appease" them in a symbolic but meaningless way (of course that way tends to end up harming the out groups but 'fuck them others' is the fascist way) something of which most of the CR readers are already aware. The Leopards thread of reality meeting those promises is fairly benign, but the outcome should this RW bender continue, almost assuredly will get fairly gruesome. Directing violence against the ruling oligarchs is much trickier in our surveillance state nowadays. When one cannot reach the true source of one's rage, it seems the innocent further suffer as collateral damage. That's going to be beyond sad but welcome to our nightmare.
