I'm so freaking excited -- my daughter got accepted this evening. Her academics aren't the best, but she's an insanely talented singer. She'll be attending the Butler School of Music.16 points

Opinions are beliefs, and theyβre a particular kind of belief. They are beliefs that have never and can never be proven true or false. βBlue is the best color.β Thatβs an opinion, and whoever holds it will never be proven wrong or right about it. βSteak is better than shrimp.β Thatβs an opinion βDonald Trump is a good president.β Thatβs provably false nonsense. To be a good president means you actually succeed in living up to measurable criteria vis a vis policy implementation. So did he ever do anything to help improve economic conditions for the middle and lower classes? Well he tried an opening wave of tariffs which were well on their way to leading the country to a recession before the pandemic bailed him out, he cut taxes for very wealthy people only, and heβs also seeking to disrupt supply chains and just general productivity with this mass deportation insanity. No, he objectively is horrendous for the economyβ¦and that was just his first term (except the mass deportation stuff). Heβs threatening to expand tariffs and cut taxes even further for billionaires as if those powdered sissies donβt have enough going for them as it is already. Did he ever do anything to improve situations around the globe? He withdrew the US from the Iran deal, he withdrew the US from the Paris agreement, he seeks to turn Gaza into another one of his chickenshit little resorts, he turns a blind eye to Putinβs war crimes, heβs threatening to use the US military to outright capture certain areas (other than Gaza of course). Shall I fucking continue? Domestically, he nominated 3 extremist Supreme Court justices that cared only about stripping away reproductive rights and essentially nothing else, he is threatening to terminate the department of education, his minions in congress are trying to set up a situation where fucking OSHA disappears. He just signed an executive order that bars transgender females from competing in womenβs sports. Of the some 500,000 athletes in the NCAA, that order affectsβ¦fewer than 10 people. Thereβs a word for shit like that in legal parlance and the lawyers here will be familiar with it: dilatory. And oh boy, does Trump ever live and love to be dilatory in every fucking thing he does. By the way, none of the things I just said had anything to do with all the criminal activity for which he was investigated/indicted/convicted. None of what I said mentioned anything about January 6th. None of what I said mentioned anything about absconding with classified documents and stuffing them in a fucking bathroom. None of what I said mentioned anything about interfering in the 2016 election via hush money payments that were concealed in business records. None of what I said has anything to do with the fact that he conspired with people so that they could pose as electors for the purposes of subverting the 2020 election by overturning the popular will of 7 different states. None of what I said previously even mentioned any of that shit, and he did all of that as POTUS or as a candidate of same. If one still believes that the individual described above is a βgood president,β one is a kool aid drinking cult member. They are fucking wrong as it is possible to be, and thereβs not a goddamned thing they can do about it. All these emotional protestations, even when combined into one, have all the intellectual force of a flea trying to push a one-ton boulder up a hill. Itβs fucking hilarious to watch them try, though. They actually think theyβre doing well.12 points

Why not? Could it be because you haven't really thought about it very much and just swallowed the propaganda whole? You didn't do your own research? Let's just take an example of this. These people are rooting around in the treasury, freezing payments to everyone, because some of them are "fraudulent" or "not in compliance with law." Whatever the fuck that means. In this particular instance, Treasury is like the payroll and A/R A/P department at your work. They pay the bills other departments approve. If payments are "not in compliance with law," you look to the people that authorized the payment, not the ones who cut the checks. This is like going to accounting and lighting all the checkbooks on fire because you don't like the way the company is spending money. Or you think certain people should be fired. They have these inexperienced code-monkey savants that don't know shit rooting around in private data, fucking up people's lives and livelihoods, and compromising the security of US government IT systems. It's maybe not the same thing going on everywhere, but it's exemplary of the stupidity that's going on here. Do you really think any of this is any better thought through?9 points

I'm pretty convinced that the majority of Americans are more concerned with inflicting pain on cruelty on those they perceive to be "other" - immigrants, minorities, women, the woke liberal cabal, whoever - that they'd accept a degradation in their own standard of living so long as they still get to throw those downward punches. Look at the California farmers or Johnny Sack. Trump is a symptom, not a disease. We are a disgusting society.9 points

Lilβ Nigella was one of the fortunate few that got their acceptance three weeks ago. Nothing more than good luck of being in the batch they actually processed. Kamehameha School is pretty badass, actually. It prioritizes admissions of kids with some proof of Hawaiian descent as well as indigent kids and orphans. You can imagine how many of those kids playing o-line are some seriously pissed off motherfuckers. They have some serious grudges. I think it's interesting to know that the school also owns the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, several malls on Oahu, the Four Seasons, a few condos in Waikiki, and a bunch of exclusive properties in Kahala (one of the wealthiest parts of the state). They used to own the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center as well. Many people who have visited Oahu have personally donated to KS without ever knowingly doing so. /csb7 points

This has raised the expected level of rant. I blame it all on parents who count before walloping that ass. First time I heard a parent counting (I was probably eight) it was like witnessing the fall of the Roman Republic.7 points

My daughter got CAP. I'm a very proud/happy dad. She's considering it. She didn't want to go to UTSA for a year because she just wanted to jump in where she will be for 4 years. What have been other experiences with CAP? Can they get a roommate that is also CAP so they can support each other and be friends when they get to Austin? She applied to the school of Nursing. I heard it is very competitive. Is there a path to Nursing from CAP? I saw this on the nursing.utexas page as required. Does this mean that the 24 hours have to be from the sophomore year at Austin? I know it says preferred but I'm trying to read between the lines. 24 credit hours (it is preferred that these are done in residence at UT). Courses taken pass/fail, by UT Extension, UT Correspondence, or credit by exam do not satisfy these eligibility requirements. She is also accepted at Arkansas, Texas State and several backup schools and she may get financial assistance and get to play soccer at Austin College in Sherman. So she has some solid options.7 points

The problem is the reality you have apparently convinced yourself of is 180 degrees from actual reality. If you think Trump and this admin are rooting out corruption and tackling government spending issues, you have been conned.7 points
