  1. Y'all are arguing over here about due process while I'm brushing up on Salvadoran specific slang so that I'll get to pick which faction I'm the bitch of in my prison stay. Smarter, not harder.

  2. Every press release this company has had is techbro bullshit. They are hyping up the same thing with elephants and saying they will make mammoths. When you see the next one from the same company, it's going to be bullshit too. What this company is doing is not science, it's pumping up their share price. They used a program called CRISPR to make 20 edits to 14 genes (out of at least 20,000 functional genes) of a modern gray wolf. It's not 99.9% gray wolf, it's a gray wolf. @LTbear might have more insight, but it doesn't look at all like a dire wolf to me. My favorite museum display in the world is at the La Brea Tar Pits. ~400 dire wolf skulls all mounted on the same backlit wall. I couldn't calculate the number of hours I've spent looking at the variation between those skulls. The snout of these gray wolves is way too small and gracile. Plus, recent DNA work (2021) suggests that modern wolves are not the closest living relatives of dire wolves. Dire wolves are evolutionarily closer to jackals and African wild dogs than modern wolves. We share more DNA with chimpanzees than wolves share with dire wolves. Here's a pdf of the Nature paper. https://tinylink.net/gHM90 Science magazine's take. https://www.science.org/content/article/legendary-dire-wolf-may-not-have-been-wolf-all That pdf is freely available online and got enough publicity that Colossal is definitely aware of it. If they wanted to be accurate, they should have modified jackal DNA to reconstruct this, but that wouldn't generate an absurd share price for the company.

  3. These are not deportation. “Deportation” refers to a specific process by which an immigrant gets a hearing in front of an immigration judge and if they are not qualified to stay in America are returned to their country of origin. These are kidnappings and illegal imprisonment performed under the color of law.

  4. You keep carrying on about bets but that’s just a distraction from the fact that a man was legally living in America, married to a woman who is a U.S. citizen, father to an Autistic child who is also a U.S. citizen, and he was deported by the U.S. government to a prison in a different country that we have no control over, without notice or due process, and even though our government admits it was a mistake, they then tried to say he might be a gang member because he wore a Chicago Bulls hoodie, as if that somehow justifies their mistake, and their general attitude is sorry not sorry. Even if you are somehow right and this man eventually gets returned to his family in the U.S., the fact this happened in the first place is scary and shows how far America has fallen. Quit talking about bets. Bets usually have a winner and a loser but this situation only has losers. There is no outcome that would make the people in this discussion feel remotely good about any of it.

  7. @UTEE97 Dude, let me help you out since you're new to the CR. I hope this doesn't come across as condescending or disrespectful, and I've never found you to be trollish but vaguely recall you having a general disinterest (perhaps disdain?) for discussing politics. I hope others will back off a little bit, because I've always found you to be sincere. There's a long history in the Cloak Room of posters coming in here with complaints about how the Dems are ALWAYS AT FAULT EVERYTHING, even when those posters aren't trolling. The Dems aren't doing enough to stop Trump. Why aren't the Dems impeaching Trump over this shit (read that one today)? Why do they keep pushing trans shit on us? They're pushing away the moderates. If only the Dems would be more tolerant of sexists or homophobes or racists, they'd wind. The Dems need to be more respectful. Basically, Dems can never do anything right because they're held to a much higher standard than Republicans...on everything. There's an expectation of perfection and an enormous double standard. I think you got a taste of the backlash when you first came in here last week(?) saying that Democrats had moved too far left in pushing the social agenda stuff when the actual Party (the organization and most of its candidates) often runs as fast as they can away from those issues except on the general grounds of "They're citizens, so they should get equal rights, standing, and protection under the law." We progressives/liberals/generic Democrats only talk about his stuff IN RESPONSE TO Republican/racist/conservative attacks, which then makes all that shit an issue. It's really tiresome and annoying to be blamed for trying to protect people from bullies. Now, in this latest instance, you come in with a statement saying something to the effect of, "If the Dems can't take advantage of these tariffs and the economy, it's going to be their fault!" At least, that's how it's interpreted by people who've seen all the same blame game stuff. Yes, the Democrats are generally terrible at marketing. I think one big reason for that is that explanations aren't generally pithy and can't fit on a bumper sticker (if you're explaining, you're losing). And, yeah, this is going to sound "elitist," but the GOP base is also full of a bunch of uneducated, prejudiced rubes and religious nut cases, too, so it's really hard for us to reason with them. Plus, the Republican base can easily get distracted from any economic argument when The Party and its multitude of media megaphones find some bullshit culture war goose chase posed by some dangerous "threat" from a marginalized population: welfare queens, affirmative action, CRT, DEI, woke, BLM, trans, the gays, kids are using litterboxes in kindergarten, liberals are pedophiles, etc. In every single case, the GOP (conservatives in general, really, throughout history) finds some marginalized group to scapegoat and turn into an enemy. And, of course, progressives have a natural tendency to stand up for the little guy. It's in our DNA. Do you see where I'm going with this? The two examples I've cited where you've come in and blamed the Democrats simply sounds more like all the same that we keep hearing. Anyway, all of this is to say that it's a real sore point that you keep picking at. I'm not trying to censor you or even tell you to censor yourself -- just trying to be helpful and explain why you get such strong pushback on it. I hope this is helpful context and not just another long-winded dickish lecture that makes you hate liberals even more.

  9. Every single theologian from every major religion is in complete agreement that once Donald Trump dies, the first 30 million people who end their lives will be instantly raptured and sent to Heaven where Jesus Christ will sit on a Golden Throne …..next to the slightly bigger Trump throne. Anyone who waits too late will be sent to democratic hell -where they will undergo mandatory sex change operations without anesthesia, while simultaneously being sodomized by Hunter Biden’s oversized sexual organ. Please join me in sharing this important message with people of faith.

  11. Oh, bullshit. It provides a "win" with zero ability to enforce or address it. It literally vacates what should have been an unappealable order that was also the only way the Court had to keep Trump from violating the law. The opinion glosses over the fact that administration was violating the known law and rights of people legally in the United States. How exactly are people supposed to enforce their habeas claim when the administration isn't providing the required notice and is instead just instantly deporting them? What mechanism does the person or the court have to fix that? Roberts simply abandons that core issue. Read the dissent. Your answer is bullshit and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Two armed US marshals were to be dispatched to her home to hand deliver the letter, but she learned about the letter in time to let the DOJ know she had gotten the message. Still, she testified.

  23. It's amazing. I took my daughter for the first time a couple of summers ago. She was ten. The gentleman working the desk was really nice, and told her he was running a special that day and if a kid could tell a joke that makes him laugh he will let them and their parent in for free. My daughter did not hesitate and launched into the following highly inappropriate joke: "What do you say to a man in a wheelchair who is wearing camouflage? - You can hide, but you can't run!" I had never heard that joke and don't know where she picked it up. My immediate response was to laugh out loud but I stifled it while becoming worried this guy was about to kick us out, or at the least judge me for being a terrible father and scold my kid. He didn't move for what felt like ten minutes but was just a sizable pregnant pause, and then he burst a gut laughing his ass off and let us in for free.

  25. This. The complaint is "you're snatching people off the street and shipping them to a foreign prison without due process and without even notifying anyone that the person has been detained and shoved on a plane." The solution from the court is "well, file a habeas petition in your local district court before they ship you off to El Salvador, because once you're shipped off, it's too late and you're fucked." Ummm....how in the blue fuck am I supposed to pursue the solution IF I DON'T EVEN FUCKING KNOW MY CLIENT HAS BEEN SNATCHED AND SHOVED ON A PLANE UNTIL AFTER IT'S OVER? And again, the really, really key part of this is that the effect of the ruling is NOT limited to "illegal aliens." It's not even limited to "aliens." It applies to persons who the government contends are criminal aliens. I, Trump official Brisketexan, have determined that @Ojo Rojo is a criminal alien. We're grabbing him in the next five minutes, and we'll have his hogtied ass on a plane to El Salvador within an hour. Now, Ojo is going to scream "you can't do this, I'm a citizen!" And maybe Ojo's attorney will show up in a court tomorrow or the next day filing a Petition for Writ of What the Fuck, You Just Sent a US Citizen to a Foreign Prison, Get His Ass Back Here, but goshdarnit, it's too late. We have no power over him anymore. Maybe send a nice note to El Salvador and see what they'll do for you. If you don't realize that the blueprint being created here is 100% the path to "disappearing" anyone and everyone the Regime wants to get rid of, you are not paying any fucking attention.

  26. It's easy to sell stuff/raise money when you just fucking lie about it. Elon Musk has overpromised and underdelivered throughout his entire career and he's always been in a position to capitalize based on hype - his early money came in the form of acquisitions when he was barely involved as anything other than a hype man (in paypal's case he was just the largest shareholder during acquisition as he was fired by the board for being a moron). Tesla he bought into and latched onto the "future" of EV, stock trades at an insane multiple and he funded it using clever tactics with government funding and public stock fundraising. Tesla was (and still may be) unprofitable to the point of insolvency without government subsidies, grants and assistance. SpaceX is more of the same, everything after that is just late stage the same thing.

  35. Dude... Maybe it's not Dems. Maybe it's just we have an ignorant voter base that can't be convinced they were wrong. Surely you can understand that. Quit going out of your way to blame the wrong thing. The wrong thing here is the Republican party in its fantasy brand creation, hate spewing, bullshit argument orating culture that you can't attack back because it's all ghost and there is no actual substance to attack. THATS the fucking problem and the more you (and others like you) chose to ignore the disease and instead focus on the symptom (oh the Democrats do this and do that), the closer we all get to our national death bed.
