So my wife and I had our long-awaited sit-down with my parents this weekend. It went... not bad? My mother actually apologized for her vote. My dad admitted he should have at least left president blank if nothing else, and has finally realized Dan Patrick and Ken Paxton are clowns who he has vowed not to support. There was some defensiveness from my dad about immigration that remains pretty nonsensical, but they agreed with things like deportation being out of control, January 6th and pardons being a really bad thing (still don't see how they overlooked this in November), healtchare and education gutting being scary, foreign policy being absurd. It doesn't absolve them of their votes, but I have hope that they have been nursing the kool-aid slow enough that they may be salvagable. Somehow we didnt even really touch on the economy, which would usually be a place they'd want to direct the conversation, so I'm guessing they're none too thrilled about that. How much of this was them capitulating so they can see their grandkids more? Perhaps a little. But they didn't roll over entirely or immediately, and my mother is not able to mask or manipulate her emotions, so I think there was real sincerity with much of what they said.35 points

π π π Just FYI - Bobby started the OTF show today by talking about " ... if we get good news later today about Maraad Watson", and later, " "... we're certainly going to be waiting on it (the good news)". And he and Gerry were then talking about hypothetical lineups and roster situations w/ Maraad Watson on the team.29 points

Thatβs awesome and itβs a critical first step. Before you know it, your parents will be quoting Noam Chomsky to their Facebook friends. Iβm only half joking. My dad was a lifelong Republican. Real rah-rah, tribal affiliation type. My folks voted for Trump in 2016. I spent the next few years talking to them. I explained things to them, patiently. I yelled at them. I implored them to think about what the GOP was doing to their country and what it would mean for their grandchildren. Eventually it stuck. They voted for Biden in 2020, reluctantly. Then January 6 happened and that set off an avalanche of self-evaluation. My dad has been on a full sprint journey to leftism since. Just this week, he told me that Trump helped him realize the ugliness of his own (former) views and behavior. Iβm pretty proud of him. Heβs lost a lot of friends and family relationships over politics. But those people were assholes anyway.27 points

A freshman all american DT entered the portal, heard from all of the usual big dogs, immediately scheduled his Texas OV and signed before leaving. Shout out to anyone with their hand in TOF, and holy shit shoutout to the staff to get a young starting DT. These are the types of recruitments that usually break Oregon or Georgias way. Feels good it's finally breaking our way.24 points

This is going to be so fun to watch. There is no scenario in which a team can get away with not doubling Colin Simmons. Same goes for Ant Hill or Trey Moore when they walk down. Hell, I would want a chip or some tight end help with Vasek. Now you're adding actual disruptors an arm length from the QB on the inside. It'll be interesting to see what the pressure rates are for opposing quarterbacks. There were times I watched the defense last year, and it was an absolute master class. I think this will be the second year in a row that the defense loses tackles to the draft, and gets better. The ball will have to get out so quickly that they could grab 25+ picks this year to go with 45+ sacks. Thanks for pulling up to my Kool-Aid stand19 points

Kamala speaks out and it will give Republicans something to redirect their outrage at. Also, it will take Trump and the Republicans burning the economy all the way to the ground before their voters even consider other options. They only thing they understand is pain. You can't explain this to them, they are going to have to live it.16 points

Man that was fun as hell to watch. Trying to get some work done and now I am an hour behind, but totally worth it. So many gems in there. First reaction from me was the first minute or so in when it put up Long Ball Accuracy as one of his strengths. I was like - huh? But then they put up five passes of 30+ yards v. Alabama and you think well that's a good counter. Like that debate is going to get snuffed out in a Gruden hour long QB video. LOL. We've only been debating it for years on here. I think that the audible on the Blue run that Sark gave him credit for in the post-game was great to find out that it was a clear part of the game plan and not something that Ewers just magically audibled of his own to hit a huge play. I think Sark gave Quinn all the credit. I think one of the most interesting parts was Ewers discussing the benching v. Georgia. He obviously is still a little salty about it which is what you would expect/want from an NFL draft pick. The line about at Texas we don't run drawings was awesome. It shows his football IQ, the IQ of his receivers, and Quinn's understanding of his WR's IQ and ability to adjust. I am as hyped as a person could possibly be about the Arch years and what is about to come, but that video was a fantastic insight into the greatness of Quinn Ewers at the college level. Whether you love him/hate him, think he can throw the long ball or criticize his pocket presence, think he's going to be elite at the NFL level or flame out, or think Arch should have started all year - Quinn is a a very likeable guy. You can't help but root for the guy and give thanks for him giving it his all at Texas while he was here. Go prove all the haters (including myself at times) wrong Quinn.16 points

This. God bless my BIL, who is a physician and not the most open-minded guy, but even he has turned on all this MAGA bullshit. He walked into my FIL's therapy room with my wife (kids were trying to get a handle on his affairs -- FIL was not helpful), and Fox news was blaring. He immediately grabbed the remote and turned the TV and said "you have to quit watching that shit. It's garbage and it's literally destroying your brain." No nonsense or ambiguities. Now, I'm positive it didn't work, because my FIL is a juvenile, immature, selfish racist, so Fox is just telling him what he already believes: nothing wrong in his life is his fault, it's all the fault of dirty minorities and such. But BIL did the right thing. And you gotta tell your parents "first thing first -- you gotta stop consuming that poison. Watch the fucking Weather Channel if you need background noise on."15 points

A. This mother fucker isnβt interesting B. All these PayPal mafia assholes are miserable. And they want the rest of society to be as miserable as them. Why are they miserable? Because they donβt know how to be happy. They havenβt been happy a day in their lives. Their fathers never loved them, they never were shown what itβs like to be a real man. They only understand materialism, and while that has its moments, it doesnβt bring you real happiness. These guys were shipped off to boarding schools and rarely saw their parents. Or their dads let the bullies beat them senseless to toughen them up. Or they were just given everything to make them happy in absence of real love. Etc. Clearly Elon didnβt even learn how materialism could make him happy as a kid (despite his parentβs diamond mine), because he doesnβt do any of that materialistic stuff. He probably was leader of the dork squad in school and thatβs what he knows. Itβs sad, but fuck him. With the pain and misery he subjects everyone to, both before and after getting involved in his doggy crap, he can eat shit. I wish he would take his misery and lock himself in a hotel room and play video games to his literal unwashed masses and just vanish from public life. Maybe one day one of his peons will call for a wellness check because he stroked out on his live stream ( of if we are really lucky it wonβt happen on a live stream and he wonβt be found for a month or so).14 points

it's really, really, really hard to admit when you're duped. for good people, it's nearly impossible. for people with even shaky moral compasses, it's a herculean task. good on your folks for at least trying. there's a lot shame involved and the best thing is to not further that feeling, but to reward them for being introspective. that's the hardest and biggest step12 points

its hard to emphasize how jarring this is. DOJ attorneys had a reputation of operating in good faith and largely had extremely smart and dedicated attorneys. Intentionally misquoting the Supreme Court to shirk responsibility for failing to do anything after disappearing Garcia is awful. These attorneys should lose their licenses. Oh and the reason why they wonβt bring him back is because if they did, they lose the ability to disappear anyone else. Their whole strategy depends on the fiction that theyβre powerless to do anything despite the contract where the government is paying for the detention12 points

These ghouls only see things in utility and dollars and cents. They canβt fathom interest in anything that adds cultural value to a community. If it doesnβt put money in the pockets of the βchosenβ few, why do it? Thatβs why they keep trying to cut arts funding and they are not philanthropic people. Houston has some of the best art in the country because they had rich patrons who valued those things (and loved seeing their names on walls). The Mediciβs drove the Renaissance period. This new batch are Philistines and assholes.11 points

If we got the Quinn that played in Tuscaloosa and Ann Arbor Texas doesn't lose a single game either season and is back to back national champions. We didn't get that Quinn, it's why he was so frustrating to watch, you knew he was capable of absolutely incredible things and for some reason that Quinn just didn't show up again. The TE room firmly believes it was injury from the conversations I have had with them.10 points

Which is weird, because my family were all ranchers from W.Texas. G-mother had a massive, maybe half-acre garden and the meat of choice for Holidays was always mutton or venison. Always locally sourced as g-father had quit raising sheep/goats at that time. Dinners were tons of veggies and protein. Of course we had rolls, stuffing, etc. but I don't remember it dominating the table like I see now. We usually had ice cream made with rock salt or cobbler from a dutch oven. Today they are STILL my two favorite sweets. I will say his BBQ skills have been advanced with my generation. Stacked bricks and sheet metal FTW. And of course rocking the paper-thin pearl snap as always.10 points
