  1. "When a kid puts on the University of Texas uniform, we tell him that he's just naturally expected to believe in himself. You hear guys who went to another school in our conferenceβ€”A&M, Baylor or somewhereβ€”talk for 20 minutes on why they didn't want to go to Texas. But you'll never hear a Longhorn bother to explain why he didn't go to another school." -- DKR Still holds true today.

  3. Bobby Burton The portal opened just one week ago today. Think about all that has happened since. Texas has added four players in just seven days (five in nine days). All are key additional pieces and all are at positions of need. You get the feeling that maybe, just maybe, there was a plan. A plan that was thought about and strategized behind the scenes for months. Hats off to Brandon Harris and the entire personnel department staff. What they accomplished in such a short period of time is the envy of college football personnel departments. ** Another fact to contemplate: Not a single portal visitor who visited Texas this portal period took a visit elsewhere following their Texas visit. Texas closed on the players it wanted. There was no back and forth. That is such a rare thing in these days. In sum, it shows the Horns had done their due diligence, identified the right players, and then had the capacity and capability to strike while the iron as hot. Again, a lot of disparate things had to coalesce to make it all happen. But that’s exactly what Texas was able to make happen. ** The latest pledge, Maraad Watson of Syracuse, is indicative of a portal recruitment process that will pay dividends this fall. Watson, a freshman All-American defensive tackle, played the third most snaps of any freshman defensive tackle in the country in 2024. The Irvington, N.J., native originally picked Syracuse over Tennessee. Yet when it came time to enter the portal - with suitors like Miami and Ohio State lining up - Watson’s first and only visit was to Texas. Texas had clearly worked the back channels of portal recruiting better than anyone. ** So where does Texas go from here? Is Texas done in the portal? I’m told that is up in the air, or at least it was as of yesterday afternoon. But I wouldn’t put anything past the Texas personnel department. As I’ve written for more than a week now, Texas will continue to be proactively aggressive if opportunities present themselves.

  8. They didn’t scour the CFP landscape and say β€œman, this Watson guy up in Syracuse is a must get!” Fran Brown wants it to be one way, but it’s the other. The player’s agent called around to all of the big brands and checked interest. Then serious conversations were had. Sorry that Syracuse is poor. I feel super bad for two of the biggest huckster bagmen of the pre-NIL era in Brown and Robinson. Fuck those grifting gasbags. There is going to be more attrition from the Texas roster, planned for, and people will hand wring. I’m not saying there couldn’t be a surprise or two that is a net negative, but barring that, a few guys are still likely to leave and that will be obvious and according to plan. There is still a good shot of a few more additions, and at least one could be another really big deal on several levels. Some of this might not conform to the portal window timeline, which should be fun on the boards as well.

  22. TripleSecDef is an idiot completely at the mercy of Trump and that suits Trump fine. Keeping him in place allows Trump to own the libs and the Deep State on the reg. The only reason to remove him is if he’s an electoral liability and one way or another DJT does not care about that. This admin acts like there will never be another election again and people should pay attention to that.
