  • COVID-19 vaccine discussion

    Texas Jeff

I thought it might be helpful to have a separate topic related to the vaccine.  If this is too much duplication, mods please delete this thread.  I thought it would be good to talk about who can get the vaccine, where they can get it, what side effects people are seeing, and in general what is going on with distribution.

The CDC has published vaccine distribution guidelines, and if you care, they are worth reading.  They are dividing the timeline into:

    • Phase 1 - Potentially limited supply of COVID-19 vaccine doses available
    • Phase 2 - Large number of vaccine doses available
    • Phase 3 - Sufficient supply of vaccine doses for entire population

Who you are will determine if you are eligible for a vaccine in the various phases.

    Phase 1 is divided into a Phase 1a and a Phase 1b:

    • Phase 1a - Mostly healthcare workers
    • Phase 1b - Other essential workers, people with higher risks, people over 65

If you are eligible to get the vaccine and they have in in stock and you want to get it, it is important to go get it.  Both of the first two vaccines can spoil, so if a dose is sitting there and you aren't there to get it, they might have to throw it away.

Both vaccines require two shots.  It is important to go get that second shot.

Who fits in phase 1b and who has to wait until phase 2 might be a sticking point.  The "people in higher risks" category includes a lot of folks, maybe more than you would think might be in that category.  Hopefully we can quickly get to phase 2 so that we don't spend too long arguing about who is or is not in Phase 1b.

Anyway, I'm interested in everyone's experience with the vaccine and especially getting the word out for those that can go get it, so that every dose ends up in an arm rather than in the trash.

This isn't fair, and actually reflects texags thinking by projection. The data are not definitive on many of the specific topics being debated (natural immunity vs. vax immunity, necessity of vax in post convalescent cases, pediatric cases <12, etc.). It does a disservice to the discussion to bring this kind of rhetoric into it, both from GR and you.

Bullshit. I'm a known poster with an honestly disclosed background who does not claim to be a doctor. I also posted citations to most of what I was claiming and made clear that these were my opinions and that they disagreed with consensus in areas. I do think they will be correct, but people can make their own opinions. I'd love to be wrong.

GRHorn is a known liar who claimed to be a medical doctor under his previous account and has been intentionally spreading dissension and lies the entire time he has posted on this board. He's also banned for lying and using several sock accounts to continue to do so.

I only responded to him at all so other posters could recognize him as a banned liar.

If you can't see the difference there, it's because his is one of your biggest allies on topics we can't discuss on this board and you are letting that creep in.

There are not definitive conclusions or data on the issues I highlighted in that post, and I think that all the ad hominem name calling does a disservice to what is an interesting discussion especially for people reading along that are not as versed in the data and its context.  So I'll go with "no bullshit". I don't think that I am the one letting my political inclinations influence my take on this. But carry on pods.

In Austin, from 7/19 to 8/1, fully vaccinated in hospital is 16.55%

Doesn’t break it down further into ICU

This isn't surprising. It's the same signal we've seen everywhere else. I posted last week about similar numbers in Houston, LA and Chicago. Places with higher vaccination rates will have higher percentages of breakthrough hospitalizations. That's the people available to infect. It's going to go up, but as long as it stays below the percent vaccinated in the overall population, it shows the vaccines are still working, just not as well as we'd hoped.

There are detailed numbers in the link posted by Anastasia. 70+ year old group makes up 46% of the vaccinated hospitalized. 50-70 year olds make up 37%

edit - not detailed to age and date of Vax. However, being that we’re only talking about n=54 to start with, I think we’d be flogging the crap out of the data to reach much more detailed conclusions. It probably just boils down to what it has since the beginning - the older you are the more at risk you are.

Israeli data was strongly stratified. Most the breakthrough hospitalizations were over 60. May be age, may be that they were vaccinated first.

Ad hominem against a poster banned for lying that is now using a sock account to be a new poster?

It's not me calling him a liar. It was the entire site that voted him out.

Here’s some potentially reassuring data for those that are worried about their unvaccinated kids and school.

Symptoms reported by parents. Only 4% of kids still experiencing symptoms at 4 weeks. 2% at 8 weeks. Most common symptoms fatigue, headache, loss of smell.

This is a marked improvement over the 10-30% long covid numbers I’ve seen thrown around here.

Self-report by parental proxy with substantial attrition before they could meet the case definition due to loss of follow-up.  They also omit some important long covid symptom domains. Likely substantially underestimates incidence of long covid. Relatively limited and weak data point imo.

So what?  Who do you go visit when you have covid-19 symptoms, a physician?  Pussy.

Actually, I have nothing against chiropractic---used it a few times.  But I would real fucking skeptical of a medical practice, during Covid-19, that involves somebody breathing  over you for 30 minutes...followed by an intense rearrangement of the bones in/near my respiratory system.

Somebody on here awhile back on the NSFW forum posted some videos of "chiropractic porn" with smoking hot women in yoga pants getting adjusted.  I watched it again recently and realized no matter how attractive the patient, no matter what ails them, no matter their age or whatever...the chiropractor---if you can look past the soft core smut and the ladies moaning---does the exact fucking treatment to everybody.  Why even bother with the whole patient history/consultation phase and just get to the 8-point plan.  GRhorn's patient information paper is worth about as much as the paper his diploma is printed on.

There isn't any system that validates whether you've already had a shot or not. The place where you received the original shot(s) are maintaining those records just in case you need to prove you're vaccinated. The state or the feds don't have that record by name.

CA has a system.  You go to https://myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov/

You put in your info.  Name, DOB, etc.  It sends you back a validation of your vaccination, including a barcode dealie.  I screenshot mine, so I've got it should I ever need it.

Yeah, CA's system seems to be pretty good.  For example, I got my Pfizer (COVID, not Viagra) at one of the public supervax sites, in my case at a Cal State Campus.  I get my health insurance through Kaiser.  I was surprised to see that the vax is on my medical record on the Kaiser app, and I didn't tell anybody at Kaiser.

I really haven't seen much change around Austin even with the "Aggy rollercoaster in September" looking incline in cases.

To clarify...you made a photocopy of your original vaccine record, laminated that copy, and left the original intact so any booster can be noted on the original card.

    You did it correctly.
