  1. Although Fox will get first choice, so they'll likely be on Fox most weeks.
  2. The difference is that in a pod, all four teams have the same group of rivals, whereas in the proposal, each team could have their own three rivals. For example, Texas could have OU, A&M, Arkansas; and A&M could have Texas, LSU, Mizzou.
  3. This seems odd, but I do not follow high school volleyball.
  4. I had him first semester freshman year for multivariable calculus. All I remember is him giving a long speech about how we need to study and avoid going out to the picture shows.
  5. The Big 12's statement says that it "was approved unanimously by the eight continuing members."
  6. They may make less money from their TV deal, but my guess is they think they make up for it by being their own stand-alone entity. I assume their alumni prefer independence and likely give more based on that, but probably more importantly, I imagine being independent leads to more publicity, which helps the football program and enrollment. When people talk about the power conferences and the playoff, they generally mention Notre Dame as well.
  7. Ketch has been working the phones for more information.
  8. My understanding is that for the networks (unlike ESPN or cable channels), a major factor is having lead-ins for the local programming like local news in Chicago and other midwestern cities.
  9. No, they won a moral victory.
  10. He didn't say top 3 with Michigan, Stanford, and Harvard. He said top 3 "besides Michigan, Stanford, and Harvard." So obviously A&M is top 3 if you do not count Michigan, Stanford, and Harvard.
  11. In both cases, an additional Texas team was moved up a rung as well. So although the remaining Big 12 teams were worse off than they would have been had A&M and then Texas stayed, another Texas school (TCU and then Houston) were much better off afterwards. I think the fight would have lasted longer, especially when Texas announced they were leaving, if not for the fact that UH was likely to benefit.

  13. Virginia Tech wouldn’t be in the ACC if not for Virginia politicians forcing it.
  14. I very well may be mistaken. I am just going by what I read about the lawsuit and the fact that the interns my company has had from there have suggested that they really play down the previous association with Wesleyan.
  15. It helps that they did not really take over Texas Wesleyan, they just bought the physical assets and the accreditation and dropped everything else about the school including its history and former students. The former students even sued and A&M because they will not let them say they are A&M law graduates. Starting from scratch in terms of reputation as the only public law school in DFW made the rise much easier.
  16. It looks like the Big Ten is coming for that sweet 10:30 time-slot.
  17. He's right about one thing - they are definitely more unified. There is nothing more unifying than realizing that none of them have any other options.
  18. I am not sure I understand why you would control for Notre Dame playing Stanford every year, unless you think that is not likely to continue. Obviously that helps Stanford and the Pac 12's TV numbers, but it will also presumably help them in their negotiations with TV providers. If you are trying to compare the TV value of football program inventories between conferences, playing ND every year would seem to be something that the TV providers will pay more for.
  19. And to be clear, losing USC/UCLA is obviously a huge loss for the Pac 12. I am just noting that (1) it is not as big a loss as the Big 12 losing Texas/OU and (2) it is not inconsistent to suggest that the Big Ten's monetary gain from adding them is much greater than the Pac 12's loss from losing them.
