  1. Except the Pac 12 does not make money from their conference network in the same way as the Big Ten does (no one does). Obviously USC is a big loss because, as was shown in Mandel's numbers, they are the biggest draw in the conference (although not nearly as big a gap as Texas/OU in the Big Ten). But the Big Ten will get at least 17.9 million a year more just by being able to charge the in-footprint rates for the Big Ten network that they are already charging in the states that have Big Ten schools. The Pac 12 Network is already charging in-footprint rates in California (to the extent the network is available for each service provider). Again, this is why adding Rutgers to the Big Ten was a huge money-maker for them, when no other conference wanted them - including the ACC.
  2. I'm not sure you can necessarily say that because they were a hugely valuable addition to the Big Ten, they must be a huge loss to the PAC 12, at least not on the same scale. USC/UCLA were a huge addition to the Big Ten because it means they can charge a lot more for the Big Ten Network in California (in state vs. out of state). It is the same reason why Rutgers and Maryland were hugely valuable additions to the Big Ten, even though they were not hugely valuable to the conferences they were previously in.
  3. The 10 rings one is something. I guess they plan on winning some Peach and Fiesta Bowls in the future.
  4. Wrong thread...
  5. I am wondering if the thought is that the Big 12 would take a little less money (which could then go to ND) in exchange for these valuable network TV slots surrounding Notre Dame games.

  7. I wonder if the Big 12 would be willing to sign a bigger deal with CBS that has the weekly CBS game as well as several CBS Sports Network games. If so, I could definitely see CBS agreeing to that in order to bolster that network.
  8. I get the idea, but I do not see losing OSU and Tech as a "kill-shot" in any meaningful way. Would it decrease the Big 12's media deal, probably a little, but probably not a ton. The good news for the Big 12 is that with the additions coming, they are a pretty even league without any top schools, so 1-2 leaving probably has a negligible effect. To be honest, the current Pac 12 is probably the same, although a little worse, as they would drop below 10 schools if they lost 1-2.
  9. Number 2 clearly depends on what you consider a "power conference." The Big 12 basically collapsed and any power conference who wanted any of those teams could have had them. However, that was before the Pac 12 started to collapse, so that might be different now. The Pac 12 is on the verge of collapsing and clearly the Big 10/SEC do not want any of those teams, at least for now. However, if the Big 12 is still a power conference team, then it seems like they would take most of the Pac 12 teams.
  10. It was more like a 2 for 1, with BYU playing at Texas in 2011 and 2014 and Texas playing at BYU in 2013.
  11. I have no idea if this means something or not, but:
  12. Notre Dame only gets them six games, while the Big Ten game of the week would get them twice that.
  13. He was not caned for chewing gum. He was caned for pleading guilty to theft and vandalism, including pouring tar and paint thinner on cars, spray painting them, and cutting into them with hatchets.
  14. It would be hilarious if the Big Ten went from only AAU schools to adding a small private school that does almost no research and does not have dog academics to attempt to make up for it.
