  1. Anybody playing FPL? Thought I'd start a thread to discuss players and strategy. My GW1 Team - playing a 4-4-2 to start: Sanches, Foster Alexander Arnold (TAA), Shaw, Coufal, Tsimikas, White Salah*, Fernandes, Son, Barnes, Gilmour Antonio, Toney, Obafemi
  2. That was bad ass. Cheers to NBC for carrying the entire postgame on the pitch.
  3. Any tips for those who've taken their 'not quite 12yo' kids in? Am thinking about one of the Austin/Travis Co no-appointment sites. My thought was to use the real name but change the birth year so the card will mostly be correct if needed at some point.
  4. Do we have an Surly FPL league?
  5. https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2021/07/13/1015591406/french-people-rush-for-vaccines-after-macron-ties-a-new-health-pass-to-cafe-life
  6. I only know of one person who attempted to get a booster (at a Walgreen's in California). They checked their insurance and determined they had already received a single-dose J&J and denied them getting a Pfizer shot. Now, had they lied and said they didn't have insurance, would they have checked a state database or had another way of knowing? Not sure.
  7. Because a significant portion of our population is not eligible for vaccinations (children). Because that population has had a serious dent put in their education missing 2 years of normal classroom instruction and can't afford any more disruptions. Because the more the virus spreads, the more it mutates. Because eventually it's likely a mutation could be more deadly to kids. Because eventually a mutation will find it's way around the vaccines. Because being a kid and having a vaccine aren't 100% protection. Because it's much harder for this shit to spread and mutate when a high percentage of the population has a vaccine. Jesus fucking christ you fuck nuts. Be a fucking man, do your civic and moral duty and get your fucking arm pricked so our gotdamned kids can be fucking kids again.
  8. see title - I have 2 extra tickets to Jason Isbell. BALC 4, ROW D, Seats 424, 425 (balcony near center) $100 total, venmo, and electronic transfer. PM if interested and can text the details. NOTE: ACL Live is requiring proof of vax to enter the building and requiring masks for the show.
  9. I don't think availability is a problem. I see hundreds on the HEB appt site within a few miles of me. What I'm unware of is whether there are any checks in place to prevent people from getting "booster" shots in Texas, and/or if I was honest and told them I've got J&J if they would still give me an mRNA or tell me to take a hike.
  10. New studies showing J&J less effective against variants. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/20/health/coronavirus-johnson-vaccine-delta.html Has anyone tried, or anyone know - if someone who got J&J can just walk into HEB and get a single mRNA shot? Edit to add: https://www.cnbc.com/2021/07/20/dr-vin-gupta-encourages-jj-vaccine-recipients-to-get-a-pfizer-or-moderna-booster.html
  11. When sane people can win primaries again I think the cultures of the parties will start to change, the messaging and tactics will change, the national narratives will change, etc. And hopefully we can get back to some sane semblance of governance where it's harder for shitbirds to be taken seriously and gain support in statewide/national races.
  12. And partisan gerrymandering drives shitty candidates.
  13. Diatomaceous earth is an option if you don't want to use chemicals. I'm not sure how well it works, and probably not well in a yard, but for protecting entry points the house it might help. Will also help with any insect with an exoskeleton, and safe around kids and pets.
  14. My PB doesn't want to do travertine coping on a free-form pool - says the travertine coping pieces are smaller than other natural stone and will end up with pizza slice pieces on the curves. I'm not sure I totally buy that, but at the same time I don't know why he'd care to lie... My next choice is Lueder limestone, which I'm less certain will do well with salt. I'm not actually sure whether the salt thing with natural stone is overblown or real, but using a auto-feed liquid chlorine system looks almost as easy as SWG - so thought I'd go for it and save myself the worry (and initial cost).
  15. Being in possession of a firearm and concealed/open carry of a firearm are different things. I'm 99% sure you have to be 21 to legally carry.
  16. I'm now looking at putting a Stenner pump/tank in to automate bleach additions instead of a SWG. Anyone have experience with these? Looks like it will cost about $500. Looking at perhaps this one: https://www.freshwatersystems.com/products/stenner-single-head-fixed-output-pump-with-30-gallon-tank-2-tube-10-gpd-system TFP has a pretty good thread explaining it: https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/stenner-liquid-chlorine-pump-how-to-choose-and-install.169591/
  17. Why not strip the bill down? Remove virtually everything except the rules on gerrymandering. The rest will take care of itself once we get through a cycle where the extremists can't win primaries anymore. Make them defend gerrymandering. Full stop.
  18. So tomorrow's the big day - going to pick coping and tile. Planning on SWG, still mulling over choices. It's coming down to lueder limestone or travertine - both of which I've seen mixed messaging on whether they are "ok" to use around a salt pool. Anybody able to set my mind at ease about either option?
  19. My pool guy claims that if you go to any pool and watch people, they will wander and settle in to about mid chest deep and that's where they generally hang out. Makes sense I guess.
  20. My dad was a Vietnam era Army aviator (passed away when I was young so I never got any stories from him). My mom said something interesting to me the other day when this topic came up. She said something to the effect that she'd heard too many straight laced, very serious type pilots of that time say they'd seen too many things not to believe. Said they described it like the UFOs were checking them out, following them, etc. So it's not just the Navy, and drones didn't exist in the 70s. Change of direction.. the ocean seems like it would be a great place for a forward operating outpost if you had the tech to go really deep.
  21. Can anyone recommend an objective ufo/alien documentary? I started watching Unacknowledged but it's full of propaganda techniques and other misleading bs.
  22. Wolves baby! https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-9490767/Wolves-cheekily-change-Twitter-bio-declare-2018-19-Premier-League-champions.html
  23. Yeah I think the 20x30 would be if you drew a rectangle that fit the entire thing, so the max length/width. But it's free-form with some dips and curves. I believe the perimeter is 88 linear feet. 420-ish in area, and there is a medium? tanning shelf. I haven't calculated it myself though, just going on what was printed out.
  24. Also, it's maddening trying to figure out what kind of stone is compatible with salt water. I know concrete is safe, and most limestones and sandstones are likely not. I've read mixed things are Lueder limestone, Oklahoma flagstone, and travertine. The TFP forums are all over the place w a lot of people saying salt corrosion of stone is a myth, but a few saying it is a real problem is certain areas, central Texas being one - due to climate and the prevalent stones available. Anyone have first hand experience or advice?
  25. Getting some quotes in finally. Due to the size of the yard and some heritage oaks we must stay a minimum distance from, one PB came up with a design we like that's about 9500 gallons (5' max depth, 30x20 free form) with a spa. But he can't fit any decking in - some combination of there just isn't room (trees, etc) to get the permit approved and they have a minimum sq footage required for decking we'd be under for what would fit. PB says we can do whatever landscaping/decking we want after the pool is installed with pavers or whatever. I'm generally okay with that, except the quote is still right at 100k - which seems high for a fairly small and simple pool+spa with no decking, water features etc. The quote does not include fencing, turf repair, etc. Just the pool+spa and equipment including a SWG. Coping and tile is included for concrete or limestone/sandstone, but would be more for travertine or other options. Is that just what it is now in Austin? I know demand is through the roof, and companies have more business than they can handle, but hot damn that seems high for a very basic small pool.
