  1. 36% increase in the '49. What's interesting is that fivestone actually got my value dropped 10k last year (during covid). I can't complain too much, as it's been steady around what I paid for the house for the last 5 years.
  2. It keeps breaking all kinds of Steam records. It's really well done for a small shop/early access game. And it's only $20. I've got 100 hours into it in 6 weeks and not bored at all. I'm probably still only half way through the actual game progression. You could go faster, but I like to build cool bases instead of working on the game progression sometimes.
  3. Completely addicted to this game. It has bulding/creative elements of minecraft, but with optional exploration and progression/combat. It keeps surprising me that depth and new things I discover.
  4. I'm in the camp that doesn't like taking good coaches from conference teams. Maybe in this case since Beard is an alum , or if you think he is destined to leave regardless -the calculus is a bit different. But in general, I like having a strong conference with quality coaches.
  5. Barnes seemed pretty inflexible to me. I loved some of his teams, and loved the hard-nosed defensive style. But offense seemed an afterthought and never ran well without an NBA-level playmaker to make things happen.
  6. Roy-al I-Vey , clap clap - clap clap. I have no informed opinion on the subject, but in the pantheon of all time favorite Horns across all sports, Royal would be pretty high on my list.
  7. I returned the Tecovas since the fit didn't seem right. They really do make some nice looking boots - I'd have been happy with them if the sizes worked out better. I went and checked out the JRC and Sons boots and some others at Cavenders. They weren't bad, but definitely appeared a bit cheaper. Some Lucchesse 1883 FQOs fit the bit, but weren't any nicer looking than Tecovas and cost neatly $200 more. Fit was pretty good though. I'm basically just looking for some decent boots in a roper style with traditional toe for regular wear. I like FQO's since they are soft. Could go with a plain leather as well if I found the right boot. I'd prefer not spend a fortune, but could go a bit higher if the quality is truly better. I looked at the ABs, Rios, and Olathe online that TwiceHorn suggested. Not many options that didn't seem audacious or have square toes - I guess that's what the "real" cowboys wear these days.. Would love to hear suggestions on brands worth looking at and stores in or around Austin that have selection worth to check out.
  8. Anyone check out the new-ish JRC and Sons (Cavenders brand)? Look similarly priced to Tecova and also made in Leon, MX. I would guess they are similar in quality? https://www.texasmonthly.com/promotion/new-brand-with-an-old-soul/ Those goat ropers not looking bad at $240.. https://www.cavenders.com/mens-western-boots/?prefn1=brand&prefv1=JRC %26 Sons
  9. Question on boot fit and how they break in.. I tend to vary in shoes by a half size depending on the brand. I tried on some Tecova ostrich ropers in both sizes. The larger size felt perfect in the toes, very comfy, but my heel was basically free-floating when I walked. The smaller size I still get some heel slippage, an inch or so, but the my toes are very tight - to the point that it's not very comfortable. I ended up picking up the smaller size thinking the leather would stretch as they broke in, but now I'm questioning that and thinking of returning for the half size up. I'm reading that as the sole breaks in the heel slippage will mostly stop. But the larger size had a LOT of slippage.. Can anyone comment on how they will break in? Or possible that Tecovas just aren't cut right for my foot and I should look at a different brand? Thanks
  10. .. I say pop up, they are not a separate dialog, but act like popups in they they load delayed and get in the way as you try to scroll/read.
  11. The ads in CR on Android/Firefox Mobile are pretty annoying. Keep popping up in the middle of the page and repop as you scroll which moves everything around and shifts text. Maybe I'll quit freeloading..
  12. I didn't plan to wait because it will make me feel good. I planned to wait because I thought it was the right thing to do. It certainly doesn't make me feel good to know that many people will be safer more quickly than I will be based (in many cases) on them being more selfish than I am. That makes me feel kind of like a sucker, honestly. Hopefully this will all be a mute point very soon - supply will catch up and we can all go on with our lives.
  13. Your logic is flawed unless there are slots that would go unfilled if only 1B'ers were able to take them. If all the slots are filled by 1B'ers then the maximum number of people that can be vaccinated are being vaccinated. If all the slots aren't able to be filled by 1B'ers, then it's a different story. We can argue whether there should be people prioritized, whether we're justified in ignoring those priorities, whether it's in the greater good or not - and in fact that's what I'm trying to grapple with. It's difficult to argue that jumping ahead in line is not jumping ahead in line - cause logic and stuff.
  14. That's are defendable position, but it's not what the CDC has recommended nor that the State of Texas has adopted. They defined higher risk categories and prioritized those people to receive the vaccine first. There is indeed a "line", and if you get a vaccine during the 1B phase without a 1B criterion then you are jumping ahead in it. An apt analogy might be: I might think it's dumb that First Class passengers board the plane first as it doesn't help the plane load faster - studies have shown that a random boarding pattern is most efficient. But if I in in boarding group C and I board with first class then I've jumped ahead of my place in line. I might feel or even be justified in doing so - but it doesn't change the fact.
  15. Those 40% aren't in the line. It's still difficult-ish to get an appointment (I think). You can hustle and get one, but there are few if any appt slots going unfilled. (If I'm wrong here let me know, it changes the calculus a bit*) I'd conclude one of two things is happening: 1) There are still many legit 1B'ers trying to get appts and get the vaccine. 2) Most legit 1B'ers (who wanted it) have gotten it now, and the people taking the slots are not legit 1B. If (1) is the case, I'd be selfish to take a slot from someone who needs it more. If (2) I'd be a sucker for trying to act for the greater good/fairness when many people are not. *If slots are going unfilled I'd be in the "screw it, every shot is a good shot" camp.
  16. The airplane mask analogy works for health and critical workers. It doesn't work for Joe Schmo jumping the line.
  17. To clarify, I didn't state those as things I think are true, rather I was trying to think of reasons one could justify to themselves jumping the line. I haven't gotten there myself yet, but if it's just become a free for all I might be close.
  18. What's your reasoning? Here are the reasons I could think of to justify it to myself. - There is more supply than current demand and Texas is flubbing this thing. Me getting a vaccine is not taking away from someone else. - Texas and the CDC got it wrong, there should be no priorities. - Everyone else is ignoring the guidelines, I might as well too.
  19. It seems there is a second category for 1b eligibility in Texas - selfish people who know they are not requiring documentation. Am I wrong? Should we all ignore the guidelines and sign up anyway?
  20. What's the calculus for doing a cash-out refi vs a home equity. UFCU can do 3.25% on a $100k 10/year home equity loan - which equals my mortgage rate. Closing costs would be ~2k/2%. The rate steps up a quarter for a 15 year, another quarter for a 20 year. Anybody see better than that? @UTPhil2006, you guys do home equity loans?
  21. Some good stuff here. I've seen a couple of mentions, but I think the two most important things aren't getting enough attention. 1) portable hiking water filter 2) decent sleeping bags in the 15-30 degree range Those are cheap, generally useful in other situations, and portable if you have to change locations. With those you'll likely stay alive no matter the situation. Then add other stuff for convenience, quality of life, cost/benefit etc.
  22. Exterior cheap Styrofoam bibs. Never checked them til it warmed up. Dripped the 2 indoor faucets closest to the spigots at night. Ran those faucets for a couple of minutes before bed and in the morning hot and cold. Never lost power. No problems.
  23. Does anyone have any experience with or opinions of the Waldorf School in Austin, or Waldorf education in general? In my case would be looking to start at 6th grade for a kid who won't do well in a traditional 20+ kid classroom.
  24. Gale, Apologies if you know this, but you generally need more than a single piece of wood to keep a flame going. Two pieces will help feed each other, and you need some spacing between, around and under them so o2 can flow to feed the flames. And if the wood is too large it won't catch easily, especially if you don't have a nice bed of hot coals established. I'll take a smaller piece, then lay larger piece on top in sort of an X. So they are touching at a point but not smothering each other. Again, need space for o2. Move/rotate/poke them as they start to burn down. Add another piece on top as needed. Lay your wet wood in front of the fireplace to dry by the heat, rotate it so will dry on all sides.
  25. I'd always heard to put a log in the pool if it starts to freeze. Can't vouch for the effectiveness.
