  1. Diatomaceous earth is an option if you don't want to use chemicals. I'm not sure how well it works, and probably not well in a yard, but for protecting entry points the house it might help. Will also help with any insect with an exoskeleton, and safe around kids and pets.
  2. My PB doesn't want to do travertine coping on a free-form pool - says the travertine coping pieces are smaller than other natural stone and will end up with pizza slice pieces on the curves. I'm not sure I totally buy that, but at the same time I don't know why he'd care to lie... My next choice is Lueder limestone, which I'm less certain will do well with salt. I'm not actually sure whether the salt thing with natural stone is overblown or real, but using a auto-feed liquid chlorine system looks almost as easy as SWG - so thought I'd go for it and save myself the worry (and initial cost).
  3. Being in possession of a firearm and concealed/open carry of a firearm are different things. I'm 99% sure you have to be 21 to legally carry.
  4. I'm now looking at putting a Stenner pump/tank in to automate bleach additions instead of a SWG. Anyone have experience with these? Looks like it will cost about $500. Looking at perhaps this one: https://www.freshwatersystems.com/products/stenner-single-head-fixed-output-pump-with-30-gallon-tank-2-tube-10-gpd-system TFP has a pretty good thread explaining it: https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/stenner-liquid-chlorine-pump-how-to-choose-and-install.169591/
  5. Why not strip the bill down? Remove virtually everything except the rules on gerrymandering. The rest will take care of itself once we get through a cycle where the extremists can't win primaries anymore. Make them defend gerrymandering. Full stop.
  6. So tomorrow's the big day - going to pick coping and tile. Planning on SWG, still mulling over choices. It's coming down to lueder limestone or travertine - both of which I've seen mixed messaging on whether they are "ok" to use around a salt pool. Anybody able to set my mind at ease about either option?
  7. My pool guy claims that if you go to any pool and watch people, they will wander and settle in to about mid chest deep and that's where they generally hang out. Makes sense I guess.
  8. My dad was a Vietnam era Army aviator (passed away when I was young so I never got any stories from him). My mom said something interesting to me the other day when this topic came up. She said something to the effect that she'd heard too many straight laced, very serious type pilots of that time say they'd seen too many things not to believe. Said they described it like the UFOs were checking them out, following them, etc. So it's not just the Navy, and drones didn't exist in the 70s. Change of direction.. the ocean seems like it would be a great place for a forward operating outpost if you had the tech to go really deep.
  9. Can anyone recommend an objective ufo/alien documentary? I started watching Unacknowledged but it's full of propaganda techniques and other misleading bs.
  10. Wolves baby! https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-9490767/Wolves-cheekily-change-Twitter-bio-declare-2018-19-Premier-League-champions.html
  11. Yeah I think the 20x30 would be if you drew a rectangle that fit the entire thing, so the max length/width. But it's free-form with some dips and curves. I believe the perimeter is 88 linear feet. 420-ish in area, and there is a medium? tanning shelf. I haven't calculated it myself though, just going on what was printed out.
  12. Also, it's maddening trying to figure out what kind of stone is compatible with salt water. I know concrete is safe, and most limestones and sandstones are likely not. I've read mixed things are Lueder limestone, Oklahoma flagstone, and travertine. The TFP forums are all over the place w a lot of people saying salt corrosion of stone is a myth, but a few saying it is a real problem is certain areas, central Texas being one - due to climate and the prevalent stones available. Anyone have first hand experience or advice?
  13. Getting some quotes in finally. Due to the size of the yard and some heritage oaks we must stay a minimum distance from, one PB came up with a design we like that's about 9500 gallons (5' max depth, 30x20 free form) with a spa. But he can't fit any decking in - some combination of there just isn't room (trees, etc) to get the permit approved and they have a minimum sq footage required for decking we'd be under for what would fit. PB says we can do whatever landscaping/decking we want after the pool is installed with pavers or whatever. I'm generally okay with that, except the quote is still right at 100k - which seems high for a fairly small and simple pool+spa with no decking, water features etc. The quote does not include fencing, turf repair, etc. Just the pool+spa and equipment including a SWG. Coping and tile is included for concrete or limestone/sandstone, but would be more for travertine or other options. Is that just what it is now in Austin? I know demand is through the roof, and companies have more business than they can handle, but hot damn that seems high for a very basic small pool.
  14. 36% increase in the '49. What's interesting is that fivestone actually got my value dropped 10k last year (during covid). I can't complain too much, as it's been steady around what I paid for the house for the last 5 years.
  15. It keeps breaking all kinds of Steam records. It's really well done for a small shop/early access game. And it's only $20. I've got 100 hours into it in 6 weeks and not bored at all. I'm probably still only half way through the actual game progression. You could go faster, but I like to build cool bases instead of working on the game progression sometimes.
  16. Completely addicted to this game. It has bulding/creative elements of minecraft, but with optional exploration and progression/combat. It keeps surprising me that depth and new things I discover.
  17. I'm in the camp that doesn't like taking good coaches from conference teams. Maybe in this case since Beard is an alum , or if you think he is destined to leave regardless -the calculus is a bit different. But in general, I like having a strong conference with quality coaches.
  18. Barnes seemed pretty inflexible to me. I loved some of his teams, and loved the hard-nosed defensive style. But offense seemed an afterthought and never ran well without an NBA-level playmaker to make things happen.
  19. Roy-al I-Vey , clap clap - clap clap. I have no informed opinion on the subject, but in the pantheon of all time favorite Horns across all sports, Royal would be pretty high on my list.
  20. I returned the Tecovas since the fit didn't seem right. They really do make some nice looking boots - I'd have been happy with them if the sizes worked out better. I went and checked out the JRC and Sons boots and some others at Cavenders. They weren't bad, but definitely appeared a bit cheaper. Some Lucchesse 1883 FQOs fit the bit, but weren't any nicer looking than Tecovas and cost neatly $200 more. Fit was pretty good though. I'm basically just looking for some decent boots in a roper style with traditional toe for regular wear. I like FQO's since they are soft. Could go with a plain leather as well if I found the right boot. I'd prefer not spend a fortune, but could go a bit higher if the quality is truly better. I looked at the ABs, Rios, and Olathe online that TwiceHorn suggested. Not many options that didn't seem audacious or have square toes - I guess that's what the "real" cowboys wear these days.. Would love to hear suggestions on brands worth looking at and stores in or around Austin that have selection worth to check out.
  21. Anyone check out the new-ish JRC and Sons (Cavenders brand)? Look similarly priced to Tecova and also made in Leon, MX. I would guess they are similar in quality? https://www.texasmonthly.com/promotion/new-brand-with-an-old-soul/ Those goat ropers not looking bad at $240.. https://www.cavenders.com/mens-western-boots/?prefn1=brand&prefv1=JRC %26 Sons
  22. Question on boot fit and how they break in.. I tend to vary in shoes by a half size depending on the brand. I tried on some Tecova ostrich ropers in both sizes. The larger size felt perfect in the toes, very comfy, but my heel was basically free-floating when I walked. The smaller size I still get some heel slippage, an inch or so, but the my toes are very tight - to the point that it's not very comfortable. I ended up picking up the smaller size thinking the leather would stretch as they broke in, but now I'm questioning that and thinking of returning for the half size up. I'm reading that as the sole breaks in the heel slippage will mostly stop. But the larger size had a LOT of slippage.. Can anyone comment on how they will break in? Or possible that Tecovas just aren't cut right for my foot and I should look at a different brand? Thanks
  23. .. I say pop up, they are not a separate dialog, but act like popups in they they load delayed and get in the way as you try to scroll/read.
  24. The ads in CR on Android/Firefox Mobile are pretty annoying. Keep popping up in the middle of the page and repop as you scroll which moves everything around and shifts text. Maybe I'll quit freeloading..
  25. I didn't plan to wait because it will make me feel good. I planned to wait because I thought it was the right thing to do. It certainly doesn't make me feel good to know that many people will be safer more quickly than I will be based (in many cases) on them being more selfish than I am. That makes me feel kind of like a sucker, honestly. Hopefully this will all be a mute point very soon - supply will catch up and we can all go on with our lives.
