  1. I don't know, man. If I don't put the bourbon or rum in there, the egg nog just sits there for weeks.
  2. Hat tip to @MNLonghornFUKM. He was surprised to find that somebody else on Surly knew about a Memorial in Wahpeton, ND for a couple of men that died erecting a circus tent. It popped up in the Non-Texas Winter Weather thread. I'm a sucker for that kinda thing and it made me wonder what else is out there. Post an historical place in your neighborhood that you think will skunk surly. Someplace that has a little historical significance but someplace random and obscure enough that nobody on here has been there. I'll start with this, https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/knute-rockne-memorial It's just 10 miles east of us. It's locked down by private ownership now but it was easily accessible up until a few years ago.
  3. Banana Slug. From the Redwood forest outside of Santa Cruz, CA. Mascot of the UC Santa Cruz sportsball teams.
  4. Is this for places in Texas only? This is some corned beef hash that I had for breakfast in Pacific Grove, CA a couple of days ago. Outstanding breakfast.
  5. Yeah, this is gonna be a cold one. I will take some of that snow if you can spare any.
  6. Not a snek but no better place to share. We saw 4 of these in the redwood forest at Henry Crowell State Park outside of Santa Cruz last week. Excuse the shitty iPhone pic.
  7. test
  8. I assume Janhs is Chris Jans. Might want to vet that one a little bit. He had to do a couple years of rehab at WSU after being fired at Bowling Green for a bar altercation with a woman. Rehabbed by Gregg Marshall. Think about that.
  9. Where is the mugshot for no. 11?
  10. Shirley there's a spot for Rae Carruth
  11. It made me chuckle.
  12. We're hiring.
  13. Usual Thursday breaktime breakfast at work. Hashbrowns with fried onions and sausage gravy. There were biscuits too but I'm watching my intake a bit.
  14. Western Auto Otasco Monkey Wards
  15. Looks like it left you a pretty nice Goddard Caddis dry fly. Look on the bright side.
  16. That's the mung I warned you about last year.
  17. We're doing breakfast for the shop guys with the leftovers from yesterday. Pretty fancy kitchen, I know.
  18. We used to use old style cream cans or milk cans but we use my crawfish pot now. Same same. https://www.southdakotamagazine.com/cream-can-cooking
  19. Cream can boil for lunch at work today. There are 4 kinds of sausage so I'll need to go back for more.
  20. I like it. Didn't think I would.
  21. Now with Less Lye!!!
  22. She said cock, heh, heh.
  23. Thanks. I didn't know that. I finally got a batch really dark without burning it and was surprised at the soupiness of the finished gumbo. I thought that I might have done something wrong. The leftovers were nice and gravy like the next day, though. ETA, I used schmaltz that I skimmed from the homemade chicken stock after it cooled. I wondered if that helped get it darker. Usually I get a little antsy and stop cooking the roux early.
