  1. I think that it is wrong and I would not support it. But I would understand because I would not want to have to give birth to my rapist's child if I was a woman. I don't know how many people in this thread that respond to my posts thinking I am always against abortion no matter what. People who say it's never okay to have an abortion are extremists. The people who think late term abortions are okay are extremists also. I am neither.
  2. I think if you were raped, you might have a good reason to get checked out within 6 weeks. I do agree with the posters that have said they might be too traumatized to deal with it and that could be a reason they don't get checked out. Or maybe they are too embarrassed to tell anyone.
  3. I can't and don't understand. I'll admit that. And I wouldn't judge someone that cannot come to a decision within 6 weeks. I wouldn't think they are a bad person. I am saying that after 6 weeks, I would oppose anyone having an abortion for any reasons other than the health of the mother is at risk or the baby has some condition that would cause it to live a horrible life.
  4. That's why I suggested that there should be more support and it should be made easier and less embarrassing for them to seek help to explain their options.
  5. I can agree with mostly everything you said except "taking the steps to fix it". I'm not saying the rape victim should unrape herself or wipe her memory clean. Just take the steps to ensure she is not pregnant with her rapist's baby IF she does not want to have it.
  6. No. But if I was raped, I would want to be treated for STDs as soon as possible. I wouldn't wait to find out I contracted something before seeking treatment, would you?
  7. We should make it easier and less embarrassing for victims to seek help. That is a huge issue. Any competent doctor or hospital should have the resources to help rape victims make rational decisions, or at least refer them to someone who can.
  8. I think most women who were raped might start taking measures before they missed their period, don't you?
  9. Once again, I am not an "all or nothing" person. I think it would be acceptable to take any measures to ensure you were not pregnant with your rapist's baby within 6 weeks. If you choose not to have an abortion by then, then you have decided to have the baby as far as I am concerned. People who say that no one should ever have an abortion no matter what are just as extreme as people who say the baby can be aborted anytime before actually being born. Both are ridiculous.
  10. That's lame. If you serve honorably, you should get automatic citizenship. He should still serve his sentence for his crime, but not be deported.
  11. IF the US was considering doing this, we should do that for American citizens first before even considering providing it for non-citizens.
  12. Why doesn't McCain step down if he cannot be there to vote? He already passed the May 30th deadline to avoid the special election.
  13. Or you wait until a Democrat becomes president and they choose a replacement who is aligned with the left. Or you wait to see if the Senate has a democratic majority that will vote down who Trump nominates. Or you just retire now, while there might be enough time for Trump to get his pick pushed through. It's the same reason Ginsburg will not retire while Trump is in office. She wants to make sure someone that aligns with her ideology succeeds her. If she dies while a Republican is in office, the tears may never stop flowing.
  14. Missed this from March but it made me laugh.
  15. Did I say that? I said that I believe a baby is a person when I saw the heartbeat. IMO if someone was raped, and they choose not to have the baby, they should be aborting the baby before the heart forms. They should immediately take the Plan B pill and take any other measures possible to make sure it's aborted as early as possible.
  16. Where is the emotion? If you make a bad choice, live with the consequences. If you were raped, you should not be forced to have the baby of your rapist. Unless she chose to be raped, in which case it would not be rape. I think murder is wrong, but of someone is going to kill my family and I end up killing them, I will not think twice about it. Some people are all or nothing, but I take all the variables into consideration.
  17. Use all the contraceptives available to you. Use Plan B. If you still end up pregnant, then you have to deal with the consequences. Chemotherapy does not kill a child. Surgery for street racing does not kill a child. Equating those to purposely having sex and creating a child, then wanting to kill it because you don't want to take care of it, is ridiculous. You keep asking me this question, but do not accept my opinion as my own. It's different because the pregnancy was not the mother did not have any control over getting pregnant. She should take Plan B and hope that she doesn't end up pregnant. If she does want to abort the baby, it should be done as soon as possible. Do you feel women should be forced to have a child that was the result of rape?
  18. They do. They either man up and support their child, or they pay child support. If not, they get thrown in jail. If there is a breakdown in the system, that is another argument, but there are consequences for fathering a child.
  19. I personally think that my child was a person and had rights when I saw the heartbeat. My children were conceived with the consent of both parents. I do not believe that people should use abortion as a way to get out of their poor choices. There are plenty of ways to avoid getting pregnant.
  20. So you believe that the rights of the mother are more important than the rights of the fetus. A child conceived by rape has done nothing wrong, yet you think abortion should be allowed in that case. Why? Because it the child was not conceived with consent. It wasn't a poor decision or carelessness that caused the mother to become pregnant. It sounds ridiculous, but that is what I believe. Why would you force someone to have a child that is the product of rape? I'm not saying that if a woman is raped she HAS to have an abortion. I'm saying she should be allowed to.
  21. In my opinion, yes. Personally, no. I have known people with down syndrome that live productive lives.
  22. In my personal opinion, if the child is the product of rape or incest, the mother's health is at risk, or the child has some kind of condition that means it will suffer for it's entire life, then I think it would be acceptable. That is how I feel. Not using birth control, being careless, and making poor decisions are not valid reasons to have an abortion in my opinion.
  23. The argument I have read is that if the baby can survive outside the womb, even with machines, then it is viable. Before then, no. I don't believe this because I remember seeing the sonogram with a heartbeat and would never be convinced that my child was not a person yet.
  24. The problem with the exceptions besides the mother's health being at risk (you can prove that) is that people can just lie and say they were raped just to be allowed to have an abortion. I personally think more emphasis should be put on prevention than whether they are allowed to have them or not. If you force people to have kids that they don't want or can't afford, they will just be mistreated and live a terrible life, IMO.
