Power steering & power brakes are going to really REALLY be the best upgrade to look for.

Next up is a good / reliable electrical system. Those gremlins can be the worst. Very few do a total swap out here, but you want to look for splits, cracks, splices, wire nuts, etc. Definitely a hassle to work those on your own & quite spendy to have them shop serviced. Get on your back & look under the dash. You don't need to know what goes where, but you do need to look for [again] splits, cracks, splices, wire nuts, etc.

Then AC... it's Texas, man. Gotta have that. Factory? Vintage Air? (That's a co. who makes aftermarket setups to add on where the factory ride didn't have it.)

Up until the early 80's, it seems the Big 3 didn't think people considered that a necessity (especially if it was a Northern car to begin with).

BODY RUST. Floor pans. Quarter panels. Rocker panels. Door sills. Window edges / seals. Trunk edges. Wheel wells & edges. Look for bondo patching. Some are done well, others not so much & will be a definite problem for reappearing rust.

While you're at it, interior of the trunk & door frames will quickly tell you if it has been repainted & what the original color was. The VIN will also tell you a lot if you can research that code... original engine, color, factory options, etc.

Notice I haven't even touched on the drivetrain.

Post up pics of what you find & let Shag² tell you what to expect or look for.

  2. Anyone had their roof replaced AFTER having solar panels installed?  I want to know the added cost of such.  Does insurance cover cost of removing and reinstalling panels as part of a roof replacement or is that all out of pocket?  Also, if roof is damaged from poor installation (something they could claim) do the still cover it?

    Yes & yes.

As a roofing contractor, I dig 'em.

Insurance does indeed pay for R&R & if they are damaged somehow due to any activity that would damage a roof, the panels are equally covered.

Do you need a separate endorsement for the panels?

That is something I cannot speak to.

  3. We will have a standing seam roof in the design but I’ll ask about clips. Gf is the builder and she’s a rabbit hole researcher so I’m sure she’s gonna look at it.
    "S-5 Clips".

  4. A modern design with some mid century elements. Lots and lots of glass on the top floor back side but down stairs (upside down house, ground floor and basement that opens to the sloped land ... property cut out like a capital L) is mostly enclosed as are three sides of the upstairs. Expecting energy bills to be about $300 a month in the summer for 4000 sq ft. - down from $450 a month 3000 sq ft older less efficient design. But who knows until it’s done.  roof is a dark metal and the solar will just sit right on it with a similar color so it shouldn't be a huge detractor in design.  I was really concerned at one point having a flat roof, slightly below street level with pitched solar panels and I told the architect no, that detracts from the design.  yeah we will have them installed but with the roof at the solar panel minimum height, we should be ok though we may sacrifice some efficiencies for aesthetics to which I say, that's exactly right.  has to look good too.
Y U No consult w/ me re: probable fail points in your design?

Also, where (generically) is the build happening?

  5. Busted AM.

No birds, no shots off my place.

Going to a buddy's house that is prob
A near straight line 6½ to 7 miles due N of me & see how things are up there.

Hopefully this cloudy weather will break for the PM series.
Hope to be guns up around 1600, maybe 1700.

  6. In my spot 20 minutes now - haven't seen a single bird, not of any species.

Heavy cloud cover, moderate wind coming from the SSE.

It never set right and I still have a bump on that collarbone.

Has nothing to do with "setting right" & everything to do with calcification.  I got thrown by one of my horses maybe 9 years ago?  11?  Anyway, my orthopedist is one of the best in Texas & I also have the same lump but on my R side collarbone.  It's all about the bone fuse.

  8. I have been using Open Office (Apache) for probably 18 years now & only in this last 2 to 3 years - Since Windows 10 - have I had problems.  Constant crashing & most of that is when doing spreadsheets.

I have to save every 15 to 20 moves or so & especially if I do something that I guess could be considered a "hard" move, such as import a pic into a spreadsheet or word document.

Would Libre pick up all of my Apache O.O. docs without any hassles & potentially stop my crashing issues?

Central Austin, willing to go up to an hour outside of town, although that's pushing it for those wanting to do Friday night.

Bastrop is a good spot with the BB opportunity, fishing, etc.

If you want straight up camping & have the $$ to order up some porta cans, I know places out here in Drip that are privately owned & can probably accommodate 150 or so total people.  I'd have to ask, of course - one of them is right on 290, the N side, & he could run a hose down the hill for you.  Again, I could ask.

For a smaller Pack, I know another spot that is much more densely packed with trees & that's off Hamilton Pool Road, a hair W of RR 12.  I had asked that fellow for possible use back with I was Cubmaster & he was up for it; the Pack ended up going to a different privately owned place on 200+ acres.  Since we're in Drip already, all of these places are a max 15 minutes from 12 & 290... so that's quite convenient for us.  I meet people all the time in my roofing & restoration business & am not afraid @ all to ask for possible use.

As to the who can camp thing, yes - Webelos only unless it's a full on Pack camping.  Of course you ...c o u l d... simply go & do it, but not actually do it as Cubs.  Your call.  Hopefully you have people that are BALOO trained (even though, again, not "official" camping).

So ideas for Cub Scout camping this fall?  Our Lexington trip is obviously out.   Camping as a pack will be....difficult.  We are talking about camping as dens, and also being very accommodating of those who don't want to risk anything.

I know some places - where are y'all again?

Right now, my biggest concern for Packs is recruiting.  Very difficult in the age of Covid.
