    What about Floridians?

Hell, I had over a 1/4 century living in Broward County - I've got a double Doctorate in "Florida Man" (& "Woman"), so I can certainly handle that level of idiocy.

...But it's 3 mortar "send it" shots away from full agroid.

These last few posts bring up some things about olds and the internet.

When I was trying to teach my 80-something year old Dad how to google things, I could not stop him from paying attention to the ads and dreck in the margins.  I began to understand how people that grew up with the internet learn to ignore commercial and other crap to get to the real information.  And also how we learned to take things with a grain of salt and to deduce or estimate the veracity of any given chunk of information.

Olds don't have the mental flexibility to do that anymore.  It's hard enough to get them to learn to use the internet or a computer, let alone to perform the filtering that internet veterans do subconsciously.

Facebook probably makes it worse because all the "information" is formatted more or less in the same way and there are fewer tipoffs that it's utter bullshit as there may be on the internet at large.

    Just an observation, carry on.

I posted this on FB just today.  If my wife were bother with a response, it would be a parroted line about "Snoops is just some married couple who are liberals.".  Never mind that it's actually "Snopes" & who gives as shit about their marital status?  That's like saying "Trump is just some married guy from New York.".  & When I explain that every bit they do a piece on has citations & back story, that is brushed off like Ricky evading aggy in '98.

  3. I am married to an ignorant Trumper.  She eats up crap on FB & re-shares along with her older sister, Dad & mom + any other Trumper on her friends list.

& I am not joking here, she adamantly believes the Clintons were part of the pizza parlor basement child porn dungeon thing.

She will hop onto anything on FB without even the slightest regard to fact checking, yet if quizzed probably cannot tell you which of the bicameral bodies is based on population vs. X per state (& couldn't tell you how MANY = X).

I usually only have to accept 2 or 3 idiot offhanded comments from her family @ Thanksgiving.  Saturday during the Longhorns debacle @ Baylor, my FIL made a "Who cares, that's just 2 n - - - - - s hitting each other" type comment.  I don't recall the context because that's not the important part.

  4. Pawn shop # 2, Mossberg 500 in 20 ga. (again, youth model).

Stock is mildly worn, more than a few days in the field but not bad.. prob. 7.5 out of a perfect 10.

Metal looks OK, pretty clean action & barrel (can't really see a LOT via shitty lighting).

    Want $ 220, I offered $ 200 ca$h out the door, they passed, I walked.

    Deal or no deal?

I can come back next week.

  5. Different pawn shop, Austin.

    Stevens 555 12. ga O/U for $ 400.

Barrels looked like it hasn't ever been shot, 2¾ & 3" choke, removable.

Feels kinda light, however. Stock wasn't in the "medium weight" feels. Nary a nick on it.

    Thoughts?

  6. I second what @Grippe said.

I'm in Drip & loaded with wildlife; thankfully, my wife bought into that decades ago when the $$ wasn't so stupid like it is now.

Of course, everything you do NOW is going to cost less than what you do tomorrow.

SW of JC isn't so bad; IMO, the area around New Braunfels is going to be infill before you know it & that's a hassle.  Due W of Blanco isn't so bad (comparatively, of course)  Essentially, go 10 miles S of Blanco & then draw that same line N to Burnet & maybe 30 miles N of there, still W of 281... that's gonna be your target zone.

My $.02. I bought a Tiger River Tondi ( made by Hot Springs) 2-person spa more than 20 years ago.

Yes, the Tiger River was Hot Springs foray into the fiberglass shell spa end of the market.  Their acrylic spa line - the "Classic" - was a badass model.  Lasted decades, easily.  I don't know if Hot Springs still has products for servicing that model, but if you can find one that is functional & if Hot Spring can get you basic parts, I say get it.

Gil is correct - get the higher rated amperage.
Also, recognize that you will enjoy it daily for the 1st week of ownership, then 3x the 2nd & maybe 3rd week, down to maybe 1x after a month & then 2 years later maybe 1 or 2x per month.

Do NOT get a cheap brand & skip the bells & whistles like a built in stereo.  Hot Spring is a great brand, probably the best you can get.  Depreciation is huge, so if you can get a used one, go that route provided it is 100% fully functional.
Also, it is best to rinse down (shower) before getting in as that will make your filter last a lot longer & won't monkey up your chemistry too bad.

  9. One item to consider with spray foam insulation directly under the deck is if a leak ever occurs, it is damn near impossible to determine the exact point of entry.  If you have any rotten decking that needs replacing, you will end up with a sizable gap in the insulation due to the removed spray foam.

Essentially consider it a minimum twice as expensive repair.  Could be more depending on where the damage is... chimney?  4x the cost.  Valley?  Prob. 3x.  Roof to wall joint (not a chimney), 3x.  Rake edge or eave (unsupported area) 3x.  Basic mid-field, maybe around a pipe penetration?  That's your cheap 2x cost.

I can't get over how awesome this image is. The Battleship Texas passes through the Panama Canal in 1929. STUNNING! It's amazing to think that so many Texans have been on the very decks that those sailors are standing on!

Seriously, if y'all aren't following Traces of Texas, you need to rectify that immediately.

Onboard the Texas for a Scouting overnighter.  Glad we got to do the "Live Aboard" before all the upcoming headaches with moving her for the [much needed] repairs.
