  1. Yeah, we have a Scout Dad who likes to do the Quartermaster gig & we're responsible for our own plates, etc.  I ordered this one:

& Found what I think is a killer deal on a Kelty Camp Cabin 4 person / 3 season.

Has a front "bump" peak height of 77" (6'  5" for the maths challenged) & with a 4 person, I could probably fit a chair inside for changing clothes / sitting up comfortably, etc.  All car camping, so not too worried on weight, etc. & I'll be using it for Woodbadge in 1 month.

I'll probably use a simple tarp for a footprint; get a quality silver one.  Floor dimensions are 96" x 105".

  2. Today I went to the elementary school that the Pack draws from for the "official in school" Join Scouting Night & put stickers on all the kids (ALL... even the girls).

Went to Round Table tonight & picked up my 2nd knot; this one for the Scouter's Training Award.

I wasn't able to assist the Pack with JSN, but I think the sticker activity helped - my 3rd time doing this & of course Monster is a Boy Scout now.

  3. I'm not gonna dig through all 10 pages, so if anyone knows where the discussion is in here, please post a page #.

Looking getting @ a camp mess kit / cookware setup.  Seeing this one on Amazon & wonder if anyone has other suggestions; I'll probably ditch the components I don't need for basic campouts with the Troop & only bring the basics + swap out the metal fork / spoon / knife for a combo plastic set.

    $ 22.00 on Amazon.

    Thoughts?

Whatever I get might one day go on an actual backpacking excursion; will look @ a stove in a future look but for now, I just need something for eating @ the campsite.

I'll never forget my scout "dad" experience 10 years ago.

I took my nephew.  His parents went to a UT/OU game.  I was a good Uncle.

It was all moms and me and a few other guys.

It was at the boy scout camp in Bastrop.

There wasn't really a campfire and cooking.  They had catered BBQ and in the morning they had an oven for sausages, and made chocolate chip pancakes.  I helped make the batter.

That's some St Andrews scout troupe for you.

It was hot dogs and scrambled eggs when I was a kid.

Is your nephew still in Scouts?  That seems like a horrible Pack (back then, anyhow).  Unless the kids raised a shitload of $$ in popcorn sales & that was the reward, I would NEVER do something like that with a Pack I had leadership with.

Just back from Pack 55 recruiting event. My son seems ready to join as a Tiger. Primarily because his friend from school is joining (his friend has older siblings already active).

It was a nice recruiting event hosted at Northwest District Park. We shall see where this leads. I have no scouting experience or background

The  program is VERY forgiving.  It is designed for people who have zero educational experience & simply have a desire to be active in their kid's life.  The cool part is that you get to do all the stuff your Scout does, even into Boy Scouts where you can attend High Adventure along with them.

If you have an opportunity to be a Den Leader or Assistant Den Leader, I say go for it.  Or maybe simply join the Pack Committee as an "at large", whatever.  Help run Pinewood Derby... bring firewood to campouts... do @ least ONE THING & you will be appreciated.

    Congrats & have fun.

  6. @Snacks, we are all pulling for you.

Are you gonna assist & join the Troop Committee?  Also, did Light Snacks get his AoL?

@ Tuesday's Troop meeting, I led 1 of 3 groups in a sewing campaign.  Mine was on needle & thread & how to put velcro onto the back of a patch (for rank swap-outs, assuming the Scout doesn't get too big for the shirt).  I use "Peel and Stick Fabric Fuse" & apply a small patch of it to the back of the patch & that works infinitely better than stick pins.  One of the Scouts had actually sewn on his own Scout rank patch & I was glad to see he took the initiative (his Dad was the Patrol Leader for Monster's AoL year & my Asst. Patrol Leader for their Web1 year... DL for his Bear.

Baseball season is ramping up & the team Monster is on has Monday & Wednesday practice, so our Tuesday Troop meetings appear to be safe for the moment (unless we get a make up game on that night).

  7. I've got a guy who works @ the car wash on Brodie @ West William Cannon - he is interested in doing side jobs.  I'll ask him for better info on how he wants to price it & if he's interested in doing something  similar to what Elvis mentioned, maybe if a Shagger wants to host for multiple rides?  For any onsite work, he will need your hose / water situation as he doesn't drive a truck or tow a trailer from his Caddy.

  8. Yes, the discount code did work well, thanks.

We were supposed to be getting a Ford Escape ("or similar"), but the one they had smelled of smoke when I opened it up, so they gave us a 4Runner (2WD) for no extra charge.  I actually liked that one very much & it was white vs. the deep blue Escape.  Florida in the Summer?  Sure, I'll go white.

  9. My mom has done stupid shit as well; I inadvertently left myself logged into FB on her computer & she went through an entire day posting / commenting /reacting as though it was me.  I don't recall exactly why I didn't have my phone to get these alerts, but she knowingly went about this task with my profile.

On another occasion, it was her phone & texting.  She got a text from some phishing people who didn't present themselves as the IRS, but it was a similar grift.  She thought she was being clever because she spotted that it was poor spelling & the syntax was off - but then also  responded with "I don't know how  you got my phone #, but I am not who you are trying to reach.  I am retired, lived in ________ for _____ years & I worked as ________ for ___________ in that town and ___________and I __________ ..."

On & on with personal details & shit that only helps some fuckhead to further create a profile about her, guess passwords, whatever.

    Maddening.

I often wonder what  shit we will be falling for when it's our time to be 75, 80+ years old.

  10. Back to school special:

Kid comes home from his first day of school & his mom asks, “What did you learn today?”

Kid replies “Apparently not enough - they said I have to go back tomorrow."

Luke: Why did the M&M go to school?
    Stan: ...Tell me.
Luke: Because he really wanted to be a Smartie!

A book never written: “When Does School Start?” by Wendy Belrings.

Teacher: Class, we will have only half a day of school this morning.
    Class: Hooray!
Teacher: We will have the other half this afternoon.

Stevie: Hey, Mom, I got one hundred in school today!
    Mom: That’s great. What in?
Stevie: A 40 in Reading and a 60 in Spelling.

Mom: What did you do at school today?
Mark: We did a guessing game.
Mom: But I thought you were having a math exam.
    Mark: That’s right.

Teacher: Can anyone give me a sentence with a direct object?
    Student: You are pretty.
    Teacher: What’s the direct object?
    Student: A good report card.

Teacher: Why did you eat your homework, Joe?
    Joe: Because I don’t have a dog.

Electric car will win every time, it's not new. They produce so much torque and energy. There's an old video of some clunker that was converted to electric that was destroying everything, they belong in a class of their own

That Prius has a Hellcat motor in it.

Note also that this was an 1/8th mile track AND there was no tree, only some dude waving arms.

    Weak scene.
