1. FYI, by the way, I've told a buddy of mine that if I was killed in an auto crash / fall off a roof / get a rebound nail through the skull, etc., it's paramount that he stay in Scouts & get his Eagle.  I've put the weight on my friend to make certain it happens in the event something untoward goes down.

I'll also request that the Shag Scouting hive mind also put in some effort to support this action... again, if I have something accidental happen to me.

2. No text / calls from Monster yesterday or today.

I will accept that as a win & I absolutely, 100% hope he is having an amazing time vs. simply toughing it out because we said "no".  No regerts for not picking him up, but it is really an important thing for me that he remain in Scouts up to age 18.  If he doesn't, that's obv. got to be his decision & I have had trouble on occasion with his motivation to put down the  Xbox or tablet & attend a Troop meeting.

He's 12.  Maybe I shouldn't talk to him like he's 22 or 32 or 42.

It gives him a chance to show us some of the stuff they have been doing / working on, the "accommodations" (it's the Troop yurts, for Scouts only; adults bring our own tents), etc.  If I had the time, I would have gone on the camp, however 1 week away from roofing is kinda difficult for me because I am down some labor for daily repair calls.

4. Monster is @ summer camp out in Bastrop.  The Troop probably left here around 1030 on Sunday & yesterday evening, he started texting that he wants to come home.

1st Time he has gone for more than a 2 night Troop campout without  having me around.  I wasn't a fan of sending a phone with him, but my wife insisted.  Additionally, my wife has been a problem with the very idea of camp; "Summer camp is where you send your kids when you don't want to be bothered with them over the summer".

The first text he sent was asking me if he could come back with me us when we go out to visit the camp for dinner on Friday & I ignored it because I wanted to discuss it with my wife once I got home from climbing on roofs yesterday.

Before we had an opportunity to dig into it, he started sending messages to her.  She asked why & his response was "I don't like the accommodations / I hate the activities / it's really boring / I wanna leave ASAP."
That was followed up with ":( I absolutely hate it here!  The deal was that if I didn't like it here I would quit.  I want to quit."

My wife responded with "$375 bucks for one day?  I didn't raise a quitter!" & then "You made that deal with Dad, not me.  Talk to him."

Monster:  "I know, but I hate it mom, I hate it so much, I wanna come home.  I tried him and he's not responding."

Wife:  "What are you supposed to be doing right now?"

Monster:  "I just want to come home."

Wife:  "I know.  Just make the best of it."

& Like his lack of motivation to get any rank or merit badges (still doesn't have any after over 1 year in Scouts BSA), I feel like I've done something wrong.  YES, I realize this is the common separation / homesick anxieties & has zero to do with Scouts, however most kids don't go to summer camp with 19 kids & 6 adults they already know.

I haven't heard from any of the Scout leaders from our Troop (the incoming SM is out there & Monster has spent the night with his family in the past) & no contact from anyone or reports from the wife today.  Hopefully she can wait this out, because I can... but @ the same time, I hope that if we DO simply refuse to come get him that he won't resent  us for it.

<sigh>

5. 1.  Gutters are for

• Controlling water over entryways for entry  / egress.
• Preventing backsplash from rotting wooden areas @ the base of garage doors, entry doors, window frames, etc.
• Controlling water to prevent erosion of your landscaping, foundation, etc.
• Collecting water for reuse on vegetation or even full rainwater collection if that is a primary source of water for your home.

2.  There are leaf exclusion devices out there & the shitty ones are the expanded metal screens.  All they do is collect twigs & leaves, thus moving your issue from the gutter to the edge of the shingles.  You'll still end up with rotting possibilities if no maintenance is done.  We install the "LeaFree" system & it is similar (but lower priced) than the GutterMaxx or Leaf Guard products.  Average cost for a 1 story setup is $ 10.00 per foot.  Measure your own areas & get a generic idea of the cost.  Also, avoid the "gutter stuff" or "gutter fill" foam products; again, it just moves your problem from the gutter  to the edge of the shingles.  If you don't have drip edge, you will get problems really fast with anything that collects vegetation on top of the gutter covering [whatever system you have].

ADDITIONALLY, any gutter cover setup (LeaFree, GutterMaxx, Leaf Guard, etc.) CAN be defeated if you don't keep the bullnose clean.  The bits of Oak snot, dirt, roof grit, etc. will settle on the metal & then you lose that "rollback" action that makes the water come into the gutter & leaves pass off.  Occasionally running a stiff brush or broom across it, maybe a good power wash blast... that's what you need to prevent "Tiger Striping" on the face of the gutter & make it continue to be efficient.

That said, it's like changing the oil on your vehicle.  You know you should be doing it, but like most of us we'd rather watch TV.

3.  For a common 5" seamless "K" style, 1 story, in the common colors, it's gonna run around $ 4.75 per linear ft. (add 10 ft. for a single story, add 25 ft. for a 2 story, add 40 ft. for a 3 story).  Other things like a custom bump out (odd column detail, etc) have different prices & there's always something to consider that a customer may not realize.

Y'all are welcome to connect with me for details.  We've done San Antonio to Temple, Bastrop to Llano for our footprint of service.

6. I hate the summer heat.

I had a guy that was doing work for me, maybe 1 week, & I took on a few projects that he was perfectly suited for... had assisted me on a couple of jobs, had his own tools & I found that I could leave him for 1 or 2 hours & he had it done correctly by the time I came back.

Paid him correctly, supplied grub, etc.  No complaints.

Then he ghosts on me, won't answer the phone or texts.  Dead?  Moved to Bolivian?  Got raptured?  Took a job as ball boy for the French Open?  Dunno.  All I know is I have projects backing up & I can't find anyone to get out & work for what figures to be around $ 35.00 / hr.  & I'm stuck hating this shit.

If you haven't already watched the vid from Lobwedgephil, skip ahead to 2:15 & give it maybe 1 more minute after that.

Dude never even tapped the brakes. Anyone have the story what happened? There have to be some dead people from that.

i could be mistaken, but the 3 people on the opposing side of traffic are hovering around a body (or parts  of one) that from what used to be a vehicle that the truck cut in 1/2.
