Do you like this route? At some point, I want to build a small cabin in Whitefish, MT and want to keep the price reasonable as it is a vacation home but I want it to have a nice finish out.
Honestly, I'd go with Cedar Shake or a Snap Lock for a premium product or a Dimensional / Architectural for a more cost efficient product. Overall, you're gonna want to go with something that fits the aesthetic of the area & IMO, none of the stone coated steel fit that description. Plus, it will be much more difficult to get a specialist in that area, someone who knows the in's & outs of a stone coated whatever. You -might- get someone who has good experience in slate; ask for examples of their copper work for flashing, chimneys, skylights, roof to wall joints, pipe penetrations, etc. & when they send you photos, post them here for critique.

Are the Boral cement shakes less than slate? I guess the better question is are there slate substitutes that can save the homeowner money? I know with tile there are lighter products available so that you don't need to re-engineer the roof.
There are steel products available - stone coated & other finishes - that have the appearance of slate but don't have the weight, so they won't need that added structural engineering. If you have any kind of an HOA restriction, it would be advisable to check with them prior to going this route or even examining the products. No sense in doing 3 days worth of research just to find out your neighborhood busybodies are going to say "NYET".

FYI, compared to Houston or Drip, total prices per square are a bit more than what Shank mentioned; seeing $ 325 & up for any basic 6 nail shingle & then add an engineer's cert. on top of that.

Can you vary the board thickness or is that fixed to accomodate most cement boards. I wonder if I could modify or hillbilly engineer some for cedar plank siding?
They are sold in 3 thicknesses: 5/16, 3/8 & 7/16.
Amazon has them starting @ $ 55+ & Home Depot only does ship to store for $ 63 & up.

Can you bring these things over to my house and install cement siding for me? That seems even easier.
Only if you make him give you his apple 1st.

Nice smoker. My BIL has one nearly identical, but has a griddle/cooktop on the firebox.
I'm considering the addition of a boil plate with high sides for the front R area. I imagine if I put a hot enough fire in the box I could put a griddle plate up there on the firebox, but I would need to do something to collect the grease & keep it looking nice.
Oh, & I also think I would like to modify the stack to add a warming box over there, maybe 24" high x 18" wide... 3 racks. All $$ for income on this is going to an upgradeja fund & then general maintenance.

Wife in sandals, daughter in Crocs.
Smoker is parked with 2 locks & behind a gate... @ a different address from where truck is registered.
& One other item of note, it doesn't look quite as pretty & new as in the pics; has been well seasoned. -
1 Week earlier, Tomahawks... forgot to take money shots, sorry.
Pork Belly square.
Tomahawk in the center L, straight up Ribeye on the far L. Beef Chuck rib (3 boner) center R & then the Pork Belly.

From 01 July off my smoker; ~2.5 hrs. @ 225 degrees.

I advertise my rig routinely via FB Marketplace; $$ is identical to that listing.
RENT *ONLY* for $ 150. I have compared to other "for rent" smokers & they are in the $ 175 to $ 200 range with no added discounts AND a minimum of $ 100 delivery. You're welcome to search & compare to other FB listed rentals.
Price listed is for up to 36 hours / 1.5 days (briskets take awhile, right?).
20% discount for Scouting organizations, non profits, etc., 10% off for Shaggers.
Smoke chamber to firebox 8' 6" / total length 11' 6".
Holds up to 6 briskets on the main sliding racks, 2 racks on the top that will easily fit a fat beef rib (it's not very deep, however).
Adjustable baffle that locks into position (see pic with small handle).
Smokestack starts INSIDE, level with the main racks (don't get fooled by the appearance of the top mounted stack).
Firebox vents move finger easy for super fine intake adjustments.
Pickup in Dripping Springs or delivery to Oak Hill / Wimberley / Bee Cave / Johnson City / Blanco for $ 25.00 [other options avail. @ added cost based on time & distance]. Add $ 50 if I need to bring it somewhere close to DKR.
With basic planning, you could easily feed 50 people on brisket, ribs, chicken & sausage.
Tows super easy, Ranger / S-10 sized vehicles are easy to work this trailer. RENT ONLY.
- - - - - -Add $ 35 if I need to provide Oak. Comes with a Chimney starter, high temp gloves, lighter, etc. The rest is on you.
Must have VERIFIABLE, CURRENT vehicle insurance & a copy of your CURRENT, VALID driver's license is required.
We will require a photo of you with the smoker for security purposes.
[I am cross posting pics from Facebook & don't know if they are going to populate here on the Surl]

What's your zip code?
& Yeah, the $$ DeadShank quoted isn't too terribly far off, however as he will attest, every roof is different & unique, even if it's an identical design to the house 1 block over. If you can wait it out & are in most of the urban areas of Texas (especially the MetroPlex), the odds of having hail are greatly in your favor.
That said, you (& everyone reading this) should examine your policy as more & more, we're seeing ACV only for a 20 year (3 Tab) roof that is 15 years old or more & for 30 year roofs, 25 years & up they are also not paying depreciation. Also, learn & know your deductible. The new Texas law coming 01 Sept. makes it 100% illegal to have a contractor eat your deductible. -

Oh, yeah - definitely looking used. I have a DESIRE for something new, but it's not really a good financial decision for someone who really can't write it off.

Well the shitty thing is the size tractor you need for unloading round bales is going to be way more than you need for the other 90% of stuff you’ll be using it for. You might want to look at used skid steers.
Yanking out large cedars, possibly a grappler on the front end & as mentioned, putting a BelTec on the back requires a sufficient size.

Looks about right; from a minimal amount of web research the Branson "M" series is the base requirement for what I need. I imagine if I offered $ 18k, an $ 18,750 or $ 19k midpoint would be what they have in mind for the lowest acceptable price. -

Also that 6060 will be plenty for what your wanting to do
Yeah, I figure I will need @ least a 55hp diesel in whatever brand I select.
Mahindra, Deere, Branson, Kubota...Maybe even if I want to spend the added dollars & get into a BelTec for drilling fence posts / pole barn legs, etc., & I'd need a sufficient size to create weight / downforce off the PTO end.

12 foot will be plenty. That's what I did. 55x20.
While I'd like 12 ft., I don't think I have that kind of opportunity.
& a 55 ft. barn is well beyond my current means. I could
hide an awful lot of bodiesstore a lot of equipment with 1,100 sq. ft. of shed. -

Using that calc., 8 & a half ft. to the top of the ROPS should be sufficient for whatever my lowest point is (@ the inside eave) & I won't ever get that close due to the tire width., so a 9 ft. should be a good number (not taking into account BeanBag's comment about 10 ft).
Post a pic that makes you say "Holy shit."
