gotta admit- havent had a hard chuckle like that from this page in a while,  putting her socks under your pillow so she can wake you in the middle of the night for you to give them to her.... thats some 5th level strategery right there.

I'll add some 6th dimension here... he puts up with it because Ladder Theory & he's hoping that one day he can make the jump.

This makes me so proud of our daughter. When daughter was in high school, one morning she noticed a tire on her car was nearly flat. She drug the hose out, started compressor, plugged  chuck in and aired tire. Put everything up and made it to school. Couple days later told me and I swelled with pride. Said she had seen me do it.

Wife tried to air up my daughter's tire & said she "can't get the thingie to fit in the air hose."  Essentially gave me a "Your shit's all retarded" excuse where it was my fault.

This is what she was attempting to connect into the female end of the air hose:

  3. On the  way to Lake Travis last weekend for a group party  barge event:

"I heard that all the dust coming across from the Sahara has made the lake appear clearer than normal."

(I've been married long enough to know this is one of those things that I should simply ignore.  If she keeps up with it, then it might eventually affect my kids & THAT is where I'll call the bullshit ... but for the brief time this was on the table, it was avoidable)

  4. Speaking of TDI...

Farmer's claim.  Metal panels on roof got hit with high wind 2 months ago & I'm out there within 3 days of the event (they called me; I don't door knock unless it's to advise we're working next door & shingle wrappers might blow into their yard).  Panels ended up bouncing up & down, pulled smooth in the 1x4 lumber that holds it all together, plus a little bit of leak remediation, a shingle roof for a shed also got hit & stripped.

Adjuster tells them it's a covered peril but they've never priced this out before - please get quotes.  I had already been out before the adjuster & advised the homeowner this might take up to 2 or 3 months but if they let me help them to rebut everything insurance comes back with, all will work out if they work as their own adjuster because I can't negotiate - that's state law.

Insurance likes my scope but wants additional estimates.  They get 2 more & both cost more than mine; one by around $ 5,500 & the other by  $ 12,500+ .  Insurance asks to speak to me directly to discuss prices & again, I tell the homeowner ("H.O.") that I can't discuss directly as that's negotiating.  Ins. tells her they like my numbers better but they would like me to cut $ 6,600.00 off my price (which is essentially more than a donated job) & she responded with a breakdown from a public adjuster that - without actually visiting the job - would run $ 55,000 if she were to go to appraisal.  PLUS, she says "I can always explain to TDI how RHR was the lowest price & most complete scope & you're trying to induce him into a negotiation." (in her email to them, she included the text I emailed that shows state law on adjusters & contractors; can't do both, gotta be licensed to negotiate, etc).

Bid approved on Thursday.  Waiting for an actual .pdf under letterhead that shows the final breakdown of dollars.  Total time to approve my estimate was 1 day short of 2 months.

Meanwhile, the Farm Bureau adjuster won't call back on our request to refresh the quote from a year ago.

    Cleavage?  Check.

Chin?  Um... gonna have to put the plane back into the hangar.

  6. 1st Father's Day since my  Dad passed.  It was always an odd day for me, what with him living his life to his own terms & that frequently not having time for me & my brother.  I'd @ least call him up, but nothing else to do, Texas ----> Virginia, etc.

On my homefront, we didn't really have any specific plans for the day; I considered the Express game but Roxette was sick most of the day with an upset stomach, so other than my wife bringing me bacon & eggs in bed (vs. me simply eating it while I'm sitting on the couch) & giving me a gift (Milwakee LED light that takes my M18 batteries) plus sleeping in late, not much action... didn't go anywhere other than the in law's so my wife could give her Dad his card.  Went by that crappy Q place on 290 @ the  Y - Donn's? - & got shitty  lunch goods.

Back to the house, she's still feeling crappy, so no dinner plans to make.

Up late (currently 0200 on Monday) to complete 1 invoice, 1 estimate & info for a customer to discuss with their insurance carrier why my quote of $ 33,000+ is better than whatever shit is built into their estimate & "PS: our   contractor cannot negotiate with you because that's acting as a P.A., do work it out with us or you'll probably end up with a $ 50,000+ bill after a long, drawn our process."

    Yay for me.

1 story, chimney in siding. Not a big house, only 1300ish sqft. All siding on 3 sides, brick veneer on most of the front except in the roof gables. Probably would need the soffit and fascia too. PM me with what other info you need and I'll send some photos. Non-profit worker here so I'll need you to throw some rough numbers at it before anything.

I'll send you the info on a PM & then we can jump off Shag 2.0 & into phone calls, email, etc.

That hurts, bro. I asked you about some siding/trim work in the past (upper half of my chimney on two story house). You told me no. You too good for my bidness?

Depends on how long ago... I have s.l.o.w.l.y. been getting into other areas where I have the right guys.  We have re-sided a chimney in Belterra just last week & the  week prior had a 14:12 steep roof that had bad flashing @ the bottom corners & the corner / window trim was comprised of Masonite.
We had to cut the fiber cement siding into 1/2 sheets because the house has shiplap  & we needed to match the reveal (visible height of the siding) to make it look similar to the existing areas we weren't monkeying with).

I have another bunch that we did an entire back of a house out here in Driip & it came out well other than the homeowner deciding on a complete delete for a set of sliding glass doors (I tried to talk them into a French door setup; now they have a concrete pad that's approx. 12x12 just sitting there isolated from everything.  They also decided to keep all the crappy windows vs. upgrading to even an off the shelf Home Depot double paned setup.  The  existing windows go back to the 80's & they definitely are a resale liability.

My current guys will even paint & that's a rarity for the same crew to do all that.  They don't handle interior, however, & I've got 2 sets of guys for that however it may whittle down to 1 bunch because I had a price hit on a job we completed last week when he changed his scope on me after we had started.  In the end, I ate the $$ & the customer was extremely satisfied, but I lost $$ on his end of the entire project (roof + interior stuff).

  9. Actually, I know a guy who now lives in California but was doing a lot of UT themed stuff when he lived in Austin (won't mention the place, but he was the #1 saddle repair & leather guy in the Downtown Austin area).

It's possible he could recreate the logo you have, but I guarantee he won't have an actual stamp of that.

  10. From a restoration contractor's perspective, I get the most bullshit hassles out of State Farm & AllState.  Total idiocy & they won't pay for the most basic shit right up front & hope the contractor won't spot their errors.

No real issues with USAA & The Hartford.  Have been 50-50 on results with Hochheim Prairie.

Every one of you should examine your policy or @ a minimum, call into customer service if don't have an agent & DO call the agent if you use one.  Ask very specifically if there are any exclusions in your policy for code compliance upgrades or if that 10x10 shed out back will be a covered loss just like the  house in event of hail or high wind, etc.  I'm right now knee deep on a Hochheim in Drip where it was installed extremely wrong in so many ways & they apparently didn't have code improvement - it's specifically noted as NOT being covered.  There is a need to replace siding related to the flashing & now it's around $ 11,000.00 + + out of pocket if the customer decides to do this @ the same time as the re-roofing.

Additionally, what you want is a completely recoverable depreciation, not an ACV - "Actual Cash Value" [only].  If your policy is written differently from those items, ask why & also how much the added cost is to get a complete policy.  You also want to make certain your house valuation is accurate.  I have another Dripping Springs customer who has a 1% policy with a deductible of $ 3,750.00 & there is no way this 2,100 sq. ft. house built in 1980 & with an 80's kitchen & 2 bathrooms  is worth $ 375,000.00 dollars.
