  1. The only thing that matters to his base is your sentence after "nah." For him, its only compromising with democrats if he says it is. For his base, he could pick up AOC's entire platform while calling her a bitch and they'd be all in. Remember, to him, whatever he does or says, he invented it. His base feels the same. Its why he often says "nobody knew" in his diatribes where he talks about something that every person with a 3rd grade education already knew. Keep in mind that his base isn't the open neo-nazis that use him. His base are the complete idiots that believe Q shit. The neo-nazis will also come along though because they have nowhere else to go.
  2. Even that wouldn't sway his base. They are fully behind him. To them, it really doesn't matter what he does. Because of that, he is actually capable of being a unifier if he really wanted to reach across the aisle. He could deliver Medicare for all tomorrow, in fact. But instead, he is just as KKK as the KKK is.
  3. Yep. Nothing matters. If anything, Trump is underestimating what his base and Mitch will let him get away with. He could have Biden killed if he wanted to, I think. The only saving grace is that I don't think they have really figured out how to completely steal the election. Too many moving pieces and too much state oversight.
  4. In order to avoid that, Dems shouldn't even bother with asking questions. There is no skeleton in the closet bad enough to prevent Republicans from confirming her. She could be a serial killing cannibal. It wouldn't matter. The hearing is entirely pointless.
  5. Her Graham impression is funny. I also think Baldwins Trump impression is great, but SNL missed a golden opportunity. They should have had a woman play Trump. His head would have exploded.
  6. It doesn't need to turn up shit though. Given the naked power grab going on, I am sometimes surprised when there is restraint. Barr could make something completely up against Biden right before the election and then retract it right after. No repercussions would occur. I think the same about SCOTUS. If they get away with what they are doing now, then why not find someone to get rid of the remaining liberal justices too? Or Biden? We already know Putin can get these things done. All Trump and the GOP need is the ability to say "I had no knowledge of it." If they even need that. They could probably openly order it and nobody is going to charge them with anything.
  7. Y'all act like Lindsey was ever a good person. He is fine with all of this. Just like Mitch is. This is who they always were. They never had any ethics. They just pretended to when they needed to. Lindsey is a closeted gay man and that's all someone would need to blackmail him given who he is. He doesn't have to be involved in illegal activity too. Still, he isn't being blackmailed right now. He loves all this shit.
  8. I think you are also undervaluing the effect long term tyrannical minority rule would have on the majority. If the GOP wins and keeps winning, they will be doing so from a consistent minority position. They can win the Senate and Presidency and still lose by more than 10 million votes. As the GOP has been making a national power play, the left has been swinging urban coastal states further left. If minority rule goes on for long, including the punitive actions Trump likes to take against tax donor "blue" states, it isn't out of the realm of possibility that those same states will start electing state officials who will put secession on the table. Maybe secession isn't even necessary. Imagine if all of California quit paying federal income tax. Logistically, you need state government for either. So far, municipal governments have swung, but state govts are still slowly moving from center left to left.
  9. As long as there is no police reform and cell phones exist, BLM is going to keep getting bigger and louder. This started before Trump. You seem a little lost on Corona too. Its still the top story in all the real countries with good governance. Its a big deal. Winter is also likely to be a bitch with it. As for the supposed middle right voting for Cruz because they are so terrified of the "left" who want to help poor people or stop police from murdering black people. There is a war going on. If you choose the trump GOP side, then you're not a centrist. You're on the other side of the war. And wars don't end well for anyone. Why don't you ask the Russians who "won" world War 2? The only way to prevent war is to gut the current GOP entirely. And you know this. It's why you posted this thread. You know that Mitch carrying on the same bullshit without Trump isn't going to fly. Both he and Cruz and most current Republicans in office carry the stain for life. Run them all out and start voting in republicans with integrity again. All the hard work and boot strap effort you put forth to provide a middleman service to other people who provide middleman services will be for nought. The numbers in your bank account are denominated in a fiat currency that requires a functional nation in order to maintain value. Another thing you need to understand is that the Democratic party isn't monolithic. They dont vote lockstep. Sadly, you don't have to worry about poor people gaining access to healthcare if the Dems gain the Senate. You don't have to worry about defunded police. You will still get the endless foreign wars you love as a Republican. And you are only going to get court packing because Mitch made it necessary. I generally like to think of you as someone with ethics, Wulaw, even though I disagree with you on almost everything. If the Dems pulled that shit with SCOTUS, you'd be livid. And if you don't understand why it needs to be rectified, then perhaps I overestimated your ethics.
  10. Are you happy with violence in the streets as well? I think you are operating under the assumption that things will just carry on because they have before. They won't.
  11. Trump is a symptom. Mitch is a problem. He knows what he is doing.
  12. There is a solution. Consistency. Let the winner of the election appoint the justice. Then no court packing is needed. I also think we passed the tipping point on Trump being a bulwark against progressivism if he ever really was. If anything, I think a Trump win will hasten progressivism. Not because he supports it, but because he will tear the nation completely down and it will need to be rebuilt, perhaps as separate states. Biden is the milquetoast centrist that will allow income inequality to keep on keeping on as is while providing just enough welfare to make poor people passive. He should be your guy if thats what you want.
  13. They should have let the 3 division winners choose their opponent among the 5 other teams. The 2 remaining teams, likely the best 2 left, play each other.
  14. But I do also think you are miscalculating. All the lower court shenanigans Mitch pulled largely flew under the radar. This new transparently hypocritical appointment to SCOTUS will need to be corrected. Otherwise, your trade off does nothing but increase the polarization that has us where we are. And where we are is on the brink of real civil unrest if not collapse. Most Trumpists just expect America to continue on no matter what. But nations aren't self fulfilling due to their having names. They are social compacts.
  15. I realize you aren't looking for an answer from me, but there is a solid chance that Mitch would confirm 0 Biden nominees, leftist or otherwise,, as long as the GOP has the Senate. In order for your proposal to work, you'd need that GOP senate to actually be interested in legitimate governance. As bad as Trump is, its the Senate that really has us on the brink of collapse. Trump should have and could have been easily checked. Instead, they allowed him to run rampant and will try to check anything that steadies the ship. But I might take that trade if you put Mitch and Barr in jail with Trump and put someone with actual integrity in charge of a GOP led Senate.
  16. I'll explain -He wants to get rid of a peaceful diverse organization that opposes his consolidation of power by comparing it to and abandoning a dusty old white supremacist outfit that isn't even at the forefront of white supremacy today. -Recognizing that roughly 40% of black Americans own homes (compared to 64% of white Americans), he wants to open more black communities to gentrification and raise the property values so that the poorest of people in black communities are unable to stay there. -This one I'm not sure about. The newly gentrified communities will have new jobs. Some of these will go to black people. Surely, he isn't suggesting a blacks only hiring policy, or even offering contracts to black owned businesses that potentially have more black employees. I mean, he is the same guy that decried NYC's prioritization of minority and women owned businesses for public contracts. Maybe he plans on expanding the military by 3 million people while keeping the doors closed to other pathways to success.
  17. Looks like someone just made it on the watch list.
  18. I agree. But I also think the republic is teetering on the brink as it is. Of the amendments, I always find it amazing that we managed to both add and remove prohibition on what seems like a whim. I think, if Republicans return to normalcy, there are some amendments on governance that could have broad appeal. Term limits, campaign finance reform, age restrictions for judges and elected officials. But if we are going to save the nation, the electoral college needs to be ended. Let the Senate alone check the majority. The founders wanted to protect the minority. They did not want the minority to be tyrants themselves.
  19. But baseball is a streaky sport. Not gonna do the math, but the Astros might be the worst team in the league over the last 3rd of this season.
  20. The reality is that we were always this divided. We were held together by the Cold War where we faced an external threat. And while some have tried to turn China, Islamic fundamentalism, and Putin's Russia into a unifying external enemy, they don't really present the same threat that the USSR did. They don't want to convert us to another ideology. And that was always the threat that the USSR really posed. We were never going to have nuclear war or direct conventional war with them. But China, New Russia, and Islamic fundamentalists? They aren't really existential threats. We are our own existential threat.
  21. To be fair, the founders also understood that circumstances change. Thats why they provided a detailed amendment process. They never intended for the original constitution to be permanent or to be considered flawless. It was designed to be modified. Of course, conservatives are always hypocrites. If they had the votes, they'd amend the consitution right now to allow for a supreme executive who has the ability to suspend elections. Just like the founders wanted.
  22. Why do they have to accept us? Increasingly, they aren't. Perhaps our biggest flaw is our hubris. We think we could go full Hitler and the world will follow. But they won't. But that isn't even the True. I know quite a few Americans that have been deported from the UK, EU, and Japan. And from other countries Trumpists think would never deport Americans like Mexico and Venezuela. Most Americans don't understand that the visa waiver is only for tourism and short term business. But I get it. Canada ain't letting me in right now. And I have been feeling Canadian lately. I think they offer the perfect balance between European socialism and American individualism. But I have residence in Europe already so there I will go. Maybe.
  23. He needs to go to Charlie Sheen's optometrist from major league. When James actually throws strikes, the movement is nasty. But maybe its just fools gold when he does it.
