  1. I suppose that depends on the goal of their cyberattack. If they were trying to disrupt or destroy vaccine research, then that's an act of war. If they were trying to access it or steal it, I don't have a problem with it. If China was close to a vaccine and was holding it close to the vest, I hope we try to steal it too. Everyone should be sharing research. At the end of this it should be available to all. Cost of research and production should be covered. Profit shouldn't even be considered. The entire world economy is practically shut down. There will be time for profit in other endeavors later.
  2. Yeah, I momentarily disconnected from my pod a few times. I only keep reconnecting because I like the taste of steak. Cypher was right. Still, Neo is gonna need to come reset us back to the 90s if they want to keep this Matrix functional.
  3. The federal gov't also collects 63 billion a year from MDers. The state collects only 20 billion. While Republicans have completely destroyed the federal government's ability to deliver services in pursuit of general welfare, they certainly haven't hurt the federal government's ability to take. Since Republicans have gotten the dogshit federal government of their dreams, they can now get around to the states rights platform they have long pretended to desire. Pass the HEROES act.
  4. Did Bush 1's adult children get secret service protection everywhere when he was President?
  5. Police unions are too powerful. They need to be broken.
  6. Its actually one of the best parody accounts I have seen. Walks the line almost perfectly.
  7. In just the single picture of her face, you can see at least 3 conditions that makes her near guaranteed to die if she catches covid. If anyone should be wearing a mask, its her. But if Walmart just hides the rascal scooter carts, that patriot won't be coming in anyway.
  8. More likely due to grocery sales going through the roof as restaurant sales are down significantly.
  9. How much of a role do you think football fanship will play in this? Are there ordinarily Republican Bama fans who would refuse to vote for Tuberville? It seems like it shouldn't matter, but if I ask myself the question, "would I vote for Bob Stoops even if he ran on my ideal platform?" And I have to say the answer is probably no unless the other candidate is just complete garbage. Doug Jones has already proven that he was palatable to some Alabama Republican voters, and he is pretty much a centrist.
  10. They should sue him for disruption of business. Girl on the left is looking pretty rude. Nice eyes too.
  11. Even if you look at it through a strictly fiscal lens, we spend way too much fucking money on law enforcement and corrections. Much of that money would serve the community better if it was put toward proactive endeavors like mental health, education, and social welfare rather than reactive endeavors like law enforcement and corrections. It costs us $31,000 a year to house a prisoner, and this only considers corrections costs. It does not consider the even more massive law enforcement costs associated with arresting the prisoner in the first place. We have the only corrections system in the first world that intentionally encourages recidivism because we never want prison guards to lose their jobs.
  12. Agree. And I also disagree with Deblasio's fake defunding of the NYPD which did little more than shift school safety agents to the DoE budget. Something I adamantly disagree with because the education budget is constantly under attack from republicans. At least that $350 million dollar bit of it counted as an NYPD line item. Funding actually needs to be shifted from the NYPD to social services. We have higher crime right now because we have all time high unemployment, live in a time of high anxiety, and have an increasing hunger issue. It has nothing to do with the "defunding of police" that hasn't even actually occurred yet. People need to wake up. Both hungry stomachs and idle hands are approaching all time highs right now. On their own, each of those equals higher crime. Taken together, we are only on the cusp of a truly massive crime wave. 30% of Americans are behind on housing payments now. A massive amount of Americans were unprepared to even go a single month unemployed. We don't need police more than ever. We need to make sure people keep a roof over their heads and food in their mouths more than ever. For all the rhetoric of "rugged individualism" that conservatives spout, they don't really understand what that means. If things are scarce, and I suddenly don't have the means to put food on the table for my family via conventional means, I am going to do whatever it takes in order to make sure they are fed. Right now we are seeing that start to happen for a lot of people, and we are also seeing what happens when anxiety and hopelessness go on for too long. Republicans understand only a small part of that which is why they want poor people to work through the virus and sacrifice their kids and grandparents. However, people have had just about enough of that Louis XVI bullshit. Instead, we could be a proper civilized society and quell that anxiety by letting people know that they never have to worry about being homeless or having enough to eat in this "land of the free" where we actually have more than enough housing and food available for everyone.
  13. The planet hates us too. This is only one of its first shots at forcing us to bring the ecosystem back into balance.
  14. But also, the "anti-crime unit" was redundant. A PD in its an entirety is an anti-crime unit. NYPD needs to bring back the community patrolling that DeBlasio promised years ago, but that the NYPD has failed to bring back because police love their cars and don't love walking around so much. Much of the idealized past isn't necessarily desirable, but "Mayberry" style policing is still desirable and easily doable in NYC. Yet, the only police that ever do foot patrols are traffic cops who wear the uniform, but aren't actually cops, and who do nothing but write tickets. NYC is not a car city. The police need to get the fuck out of their cars and walk around the neighborhood like the rest of us. In spite of the right wing spin by people who live in bunkers in West Texas, NYC continues to be relatively safe and most people in NYC want cops around. They simply want those cops to be part of the community again rather than an invading force.
  15. Kansas City has the worst barbecue. Saint Louis has the worst pizza. Hard to get a decent meal in that state.
  16. It is inexcusable. "We really need to have Twinkies here," says arsonist who burned down the Twinkie factory. He shouldn't even be allowed to get a test until every other American that wants one has already had one.
  17. Disagree. We have created a system where state and local governments are responsible for pretty much everything. As long as that is true, they should receive the bulk of our tax money. I'm not sure why we should throw our money into a black hole when services provided by our states and cities are currently running in the red. SALT deductions at least allowed us to pay state and local "first." I do know that in functioning nations, national governments are able to provide and distribute services for the benefit of all their citizens. Since we are a failed state though, we are better off funding the local warlords than throwing our money away. I'm thinking of a complete overhaul. FICA is a good setup. Its a specific tax to provide 2 specific services. All FIT should follow the same setup. Have a military tax and an administrative tax. When the federal government needs more, they can pass a new specific tax, or they can go to state governments directly for funding. I'm a tax and spend liberal. I would love for us to have first world level social services and infrastructure. But it just doesn't happen. We get jackshit for increased taxes.
  18. Wait til he finds out how much he can get for selling RPGs in Afghanistan.
  19. I disagree, but we don't really have any actual nuance attempt data points to make a proper assessment. Kanye put on a MAGA hat and did an unhinged meeting with Trump where they talked about iPlanes
  20. He didn't really give a shit. That was a transparent attempt to make Kanye and Kim like him. I am actually surprised more celebrities didn't play that game. Blow smoke up his ass and you can get pretty much whatever you want out of him. Someone like George Clooney could have gotten a lot for his charities and walked the line on it enough to undo any MAGA stench he got on him.
