  1. The Senate or cabinet stopping Trump. Man, that's a good one. The Senate is worse than Trump is and the acting cabinet are all Trump appointees pseudo-approved by Mitch. While Trump is a shitty pilot that is going to fly us into the mountain anyway, Moscow Mitch ain't gonna save us. Mitch's remote control override is there to make sure we hit the mountain even if the pilot has a moment of clarity.
  2. Your bootstraps mentality has been pervasive on this board in spite of your admirable support of public schooling. Let's apply that support of a public good to all the other things a child needs to grow. Maybe in the end, you will be a liberal after all. It isn't liberals that forced women to charity healthcare services in order to get basic contraception.
  3. No, but we are trying to set up a rotation with a couple of my daughter's classmates that she has been "quaranteamed" with this summer so they can remote learn together instead of each doing it separately.
  4. 38% of Planned Parenthood's budget comes from private contributions. Much of that actually may be directly attributable to them continuing to provide abortion services. This accounts for about $600 million dollars. 34% comes from federal spending, of this around $500 million comes from Medicaid reimbursements. Around $60 million dollars comes from the Title X grants in question. The gov't isn't funding anything really. The anti-PP rhetoric from the right usually ends up being a fundraising boon. Imagine a world where conservatives actually gave a shit about healthcare and where every single non-abortion service provided by PP was available under M4A. Then you actually might be able to make some headway in stopping providers from offering abortion. In a world where liberals don't need to fund basic healthcare and safe sex counseling for impoverished women via donations, those donations would become mostly "for abortion only" and you could shame a lot of them away.
  5. To add to that, the whole time, NY state has also had different rules for high infection and low infection areas. NY state shit the bed out of the gate because it had early spread before anyone knew what was going on. But they did get it together and show other states an effective model for getting it under control across an entire state with differing densities and demographics. Very few other states have followed it.
  6. NYC is estimated to be about 20% based on random antibody testing. https://www.6sqft.com/new-york-covid-antibody-test-preliminary-results/ 19.9 in early May. 21.6 in mid June. Some neighborhoods have it much worse than others though. Zork is one of those that likes to apply localized statistics across a large area though. NYC crime is "through the roof" because of a mostly Bronx based crime wave as well. We need to do better for the Bronx. I don't think NYC ever came close to 60% even on voluntary symptomatic testing, much less random sample testing.
  7. Nah, her plan is better. Trump is a massive hindrance who makes things worse. Santa would at least offer hope and stay out of the way.
  8. From now on, any politician who downplays the threat should be required to inject it. Anyone who wants us to obtain herd immunity the old fashioned way, should be the first cow in the herd.
  9. Of course Trump isn't commuting death penalties or undoing miscarriages of justice. He doesn't give a shit about any of that. And really, he is only getting started on pardoning people for personal gain. Just wait til December when he actually starts bargaining. How many convicted Russian spies do we have?
  10. Not quite the same. Addiction is a bitch. You can feel sorry for the 2 pack a day guy.
  11. Do other stadiums provide additional dugout protection that Minute Maid doesn't?
  12. No, Brad is just out of frame in that pic. The top of his head is right underneath Trump's ugly blue tie.
  13. Nobody ever wore a mask before him. He was the first to think of it.
  14. Its never fully recovered from when Obama wore a tan suit.
  15. Not that I would have wanted it for him, but we would have been better off if Boris Johnson had died from it. High profile, liked by MAGA, and an earlyish case. Trump would have been wearing a mask the next day.
  16. Land of the free where we have a President who wants to sell 3 million US citizens to the highest bidder.
  17. Yeah, cuz that was the opposite of a pro baptist Jesus move. Jesus may have turned water into wine, but baptists won't drink it. If they gave north Louisiana to Arkansas, South Louisiana would probably be the most actually libertarian place in America. New Orleans is really the only place in the South that isn't necessarily the "South," and also one of only a few cities in the US that is truly unique and beats to its own drum. Most of America, sadly, is generic as fuck, including Texas' two biggest cities.
  18. Yes, so every student chooses the best school, and all the other schools sit empty, right? HISD has 215,000 students. Bellaire High School is going to need a few more temporary units to accomodate 50k students next year.
  19. We talking about the monster truck Bigfoot or Harry and the Hendersons?
  20. That is pretty much how the GOP (and especially Tea Partiers) works. Say government is bad. Get in charge of government and make it intentionally bad. Then say, see we told you, government is bad, let me give all this tax money to my friend instead.
  21. Yes I can. And in the past, I leaned toward the possibility that eventually knowledge would overwhelm ignorance throughout the nation. But instead, red state voters have disproportionate voting power to the point where they are able to fuck up education, infrastructure, and other things outside their state borders. We can put far more economic pressure on them if they were separate countries that needed to meet certain economic, civil rights, and social goals in order to join a trade partnership, and where sanctions could be applied when needed. It would not take them long to come around. Most of them anyway.
  22. See, I actually agree with you on that somewhat. The USA is too large to be a single entity with centralized power.
  23. The other portion of your post contained nothing about the coming fall semester epidemiological experiments either. But that isn't actually where "burn it down" fell in your personal timeline. Instead, you wanted to burn it down before the 2016 election even occurred. I do get that you thought you'd be relatively safe from the fire while others burned in it. Fire doesn't work that way though.
