  1. Actually, you are the one who has been non-responsive. Below is your initial post that kicked this off. So you can see why the discussion has been about whether vouchers are libertarian and whether vouchers are a good idea at all, rather than about an "epidemiological experiment" during a single semester during a a pandemic. If your goal was to discuss other options besides a forced reopening, then your post wasn't the way to do it. And my child is in public school, albeit not in Texas. Right now, my state and local gov'ts fight each other as much as yours do over it, and my federal gov't is threatening to defund my public schools if they don't reopen just like it is threatening to defund yours. There are only 2 real differences. One, my location is past the first infection wave and yours is right in the middle of it. Everything you do should occur roughly 2 to 3 months after NYC does it. Two, my state will tell the feds to go fuck themselves and we will have remote or hybrid learning, if necessary, no matter what Trump wants us to do. So far, remote learning sucks, however. And while administrators and teachers have had plenty of time now to come up with a workable remote learning solution for the fall semester, I am almost certain that they haven't done so, and we'll have the same daily "homework list" structure that we had in spring. And to be fair, I see the same complaints from parents who have kids in private school. So many teachers have their own kids at home that it makes it difficult for them to be "teacher" and herd remote kids the whole day as well. I'm also not sure why you're complaining. You wanted things to "burn down." Well, this is what that looks like.
  2. Its big in NY. Don't recall it as much in Texas. But the CEO pretty much shot his own dick off. I would guess that 80+% of Goya consumers are anti-Trump.
  3. Public funding is entirely non-libertarian. As far as schooling goes, the only true libertarian possibility would be homeschooling your children by themselves, whether you do it yourself or hire a teacher. Once you pool your money with even a single other parent in order to educate their kids together with your kids, you have joined a collective and have yielded some control over the curriculum to the rest of the collective. Libertarianism has always been an impossibility. The first thing libertarians would do on libertarian fantasy island is agree to a framework for dispute resolution and possibly hire security. You know, form a government. They mostly seem to want to enfranchise property and capital and disenfranchise the human being. Much like you who want to direct "your" tax money. If everyone directs "their own" tax money, then where does that leave those that have no, or very little, tax money to direct? What will happen with vouchers is that the voucher will defund the public school system by $X. It will still cost $X + $Y to attend private school. So after all the wealthy people have taken "their tax" money out of the system, added $Y to it (largely tax deductible), and paid for private school, the poor people will be left with worthless vouchers and an entirely defunded public school system which at that point has zero budget. Some of them will get to lottery in to private schools though and you'll tout that as a victory so you can feel better about yourself much like happens for charter schools right now.
  4. Could Indian Territory unilaterally secede from the state entirely?
  5. Glad I don't have to work with the general public anymore. If someone threw shoes at me at work, I'm not so sure my response would be just politely recording it. I guess I'm an old now though and its all about video vindication.
  6. People from states listed in the travel advisory are required to self quarantine, but it is nearly impossible to enforce. It won't be followed by hardly anyone except considerate people who were unlikely to have it anyway.
  7. No way. Its impossible for someone to actively support mental illness and addiction treatment for the homeless person and also support the importation of able bodied workers who are willing to do the jobs that poor Americans don't want to do. And they aren't really depressing wages either. Meat processing, farm work, and restaurant work all pay more than retail minimum wage. Its hard work though and you can't half ass it on the clock like you can as a Walmart stocker or a lawyer. Our homeless outreach system actually does very well for the few homeless that are reasonably fit and on the streets for reasons that were truly out of their control. It fails entirely for mental illness. It fails entirely for addiction. You'd think that a self-styled conservative would know that you can't force non-violent mentally ill people to get treatment, you can't force non-violent substance abusers into rehab, and you can't force anyone into a shelter against their will. "Freedom" and stuff, you know. Of course the post also lays bare the fact that Republicans don't give a fuck about either one. They support the separation of immigrant families and oppose the healthcare that homeless people need. And also, if one believes that everyone is capable of picking themselves up by the "bootstraps," then didn't all those homeless actively make the "choice" to be homeless anyway? So somebody still needs to drive by them and find someone willing to actually clean the shitter at brothahorn's office for $10/hr.
  8. The Russian bounties still get airtime. Part of the problem is that Trump capably overwhelms the airwaves with negative actions, and this buries the worst actions and makes us tired of hearing about his negative actions altogether. He is a complete incompetent when it comes to every other task or job, but he is an expert genius when it comes to this type of PR. He even knows that positive news won't get the suppression job done so he will even spin the few positive things he does into negatives. He is so good at it that there is almost undoubtedly a massive piece of negative news or two that has never even gotten a single second of coverage. The cover up of the cover up of the cover up of the cover up if you will.
  9. The total infection rate among the total NYC population is estimated to be around 20%. It hasn't run through the population. Being the initial outbreak site caused real behavior changes. Shelter in place was effective, and social distancing and mask rules are largely followed in the reopening. Another difference is that NYC Trumpers, who trend old, are also some of the loudest proponents of wearing masks in most NYC neighborhoods, but real interaction with the effects of the virus caused that. Almost everyone here has been personally affected by the virus and knows someone who has been gravely ill or passed away from it. Anti-mask Karens, and partying Gen Zers, still exist but they are shamed away pretty quickly usually.
  10. Thomas can retire now if he wants to. Even a Trump nominee would shift the court leftward.
  11. Nope. In a regular year, my state gets about 50 cents back on the dollar for what it puts into federal coffers. Right now, we have leadership that is intentionally withholding aid money from my state and city. The administration is attempting to withhold education funding to my state's schools (and finally yours as well) in order to extort them into forcing dangerous reopenings. That same administration also killed needed infrastructure projects for my state and city prior to covid. It also raised our federal taxes and intentionally hindered us from collecting our own needed tax revenue. I've been lucky to be working this whole time. So right now, I'm about to write a large check to the federal government, and a small check to my state and local government. I want this reversed. The President has told my state and city multiple times that we are on our own. Fine. Let us be on our own. So if my state taxes need to fund everything then let me pay them. The vig that we pay to the useless king is too much. But hey, I guess I will get to fund an evangelical private school in Kentucky instead of my local public school system. And I also get to pay for my portion of a single fighter jet. Medicare and Social Security are separate taxes. We should raise those. The federal government should have to go to state governments to raise other funds.
  12. No, they were gonna miss their housing payments anyway. Pre-existing conditions. Really though, we need to stop compiling housing statistics. They make us look bad. Other countries don't compile housing statistics at our same rate.
  13. Nah, at Deutsche Bank, paper shredding is like 3/4 of their business on a normal workday. No OT.
  14. I'm actually shocked that his financial records haven't leaked already. The administration is practically a sieve otherwise.
  15. If there is a problem with the media, it is that they've mostly treated Trump with kid gloves and tried to offer "both sides" of many situations that don't really have two equal sides. CNN regularly has people like Kelly Anne Conway on, for example. And this has allowed bullshit like "alternative facts" to come into being. If CNN was a father of a toddler who pulled a cat's tail, they'd have the toddler on giving his justifications for why its okay to pull the cat's tail. In reality, it just isn't okay and the toddler needs to be told that unequivocally. And shit is off the deep end. We have no functional leadership and are pretty much a failed state in the midst of a global pandemic. But conservatives can get me on their side if they start to deliver on taxes. Take the federal income tax to zero.
  16. Yep, the can is going to get kicked right past November.
  17. A sovereign citizen doesn't need to pay taxes.
  18. "Make America Great Again" is entirely about being a victim and a bitch who cries about the past. It is not a forward thinking slogan. Out of the things you posted, there are only a couple of ones actually worth reading. Leave the dumb memes out like "I keep a gun on me cuz I'm American as fuck", and the crybaby anti-media ones out, and you might get some good discussion.
  19. The founders also support gay and transgender rights. In 2017, only 51% of African Americans supported same sex marriage. I assume that has probably gone up a little bit over the last 3 years. However, I imagine it doesn't come close to the 86% of African Americans that support Black Lives Matter. Somehow, the founders' support of gay and transgender rights isn't a problem though. Much like marxism, it is simply a different fight. The founders are also pro-choice.
  20. You asked me to retract the claim that you said a specific thing so I did. I'm under no obligation to sift through the old board. I am also under no obligation to change my belief that you don't value other cultures. It could be put to bed pretty easily. State plainly that you don't believe in Western cultural superiority. As for the marxist nonsense. Again, I find it to be an intentional distraction because it is largely irrelevant to the movement. Giuliani, Carlson, and other right wing talking heads are using it exactly for that. If you aren't racist, don't jump in bed with racists.
  21. You were anti everything non-Western culture including Chinese. But fine, I will retract it. Instead, tell me what you believe the role of Western culture is in the world. And the reason that we chimed in is that veiled bigotry is still bigotry. Who cares if there are a handful of marxists among several BLM organizations and millions of BLM participants? Who cares if an actual marxist started the movement? The movement is about police brutality and equality. You are just looking for justification to refuse supporting the actual cause. The marxist attack is nothing more than a longwinded version of the "one guy is looting so I can't support anything the protesters want" argument. You are capable of being better than Tucker Carlson.
  22. Does Palm Beach County really only have 407 ICU beds? They have 1.4 million people and are demographically old. That seems super low even without covid going on.
