In both cases it was, most likely, an emphasis vote after selecting straight party. With scantron ballots, if you straight party vote Democrat and then fill in the blank for Beto, it would count as one vote for Beto. The voter just emphasized Beto. On a machine, the program treats the straight ticket and the emphasis vote as something like a double negative and marks the vote for the opponent. You do get a warning pop up but it’s almost doublespeak like “the selection you’ve made will deselect your precious selection.” Litigation was tried to get it changed but it didn’t go anywhere. So on machines in Texas, if you straight ticket vote R but then choose Beto, your vote goes Beto. If you straight ticket R and choose Cruz, your vote goes to Beto. If no one voted a straight ticket, this wouldn’t happen.

The twins didn’t get their licenses until they were almost 17, which was early August, and I didn’t get around to buying them a car until 2 weeks ago (2009 Ford Escape). The reason for both things happening was my wife has declared that she will never take the boys to MTB practice again. Those start again in a few weeks so after the vehicle they needed a rack because the four-bike tray-style Yak we normally use for race weekends is too damn heavy and their bikes won’t fit in the Escape. I search around and decided on Kuat Transfer. It’s a two-bike rack that secures the tires instead of the frame. Ordered from REI and got an extra $20 gift card for buying it, in addition to the $30 I’ll get early next year. It arrived today and we assembled it this evening. It was idiot-proof to put together and really well engineered. A Swagman rack that is similar has none of the advantages like being able to tilt down as well as fold up for not much less. After “supervising” the installation, I earned the reward of a big ol’ Boulevardier. Life is good.

Do you have a link? That awesome. My astigmatism is supposedly high enough that only very flat lenses are possible for me and most of the oakley's wrap around too much. What frames do you have?

I have eyeglasses and usually ride with them on so I don’t really need protection. Occasionally, I have prescription sunglasses that I will use but only on trails that I know well since they are as dark as I can get them. My 17yo’s ride with Oakley Jawbreakers with the Prizm Trail lenses. They are goofy as hell and huge, but they are perfect for the dappled sun and shade you get with central Texas trails. I’ve got a weird cataract that will require lens replacement (definitely not the old person cataract). I’m looking forward to buying off the rack glasses once it’s done. Nothing as large as the Jawbreakers but maybe the flak jacket with the Prizm Trail. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

In the 90’s there was talk of VW bringing back the van. Had it happened, I would’ve bought my wife one and spent the money on some version of a TLEO vanity plate. Lord you can see that’s it’s true. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

TRAVEL: Points, Miles, Discounts, Tips, Advice & Questions
Austinvines replied to Spankytoes's topic in Food and Travel
I am a total novice at miles grinding but also travelling to Europe. I hope a few of you will take the time to offer me your advice. I married a Chicago girl so our miles are on United. It's her Mileage Plus account and we currently have the Chase United Explorer card and 500k miles. We are on our second year of Pre-Check. Our kids are about to be juniors in HS and we want to take a Europe trip next summer. I'd like to do Austria/Germany/Hungary (seeing an F1 Grand Prix to cap off a trip would be awesome for me but meh for the spouse) but I think the wife is looking more toward Great Britain and maybe northern France. Using the fare finder on the Mileage Plus website is a drag. We did Hawaii several years ago and they would increase and decrease the mileage cost of the flights by the day for no reason but to sucker me into purchasing. Is there a partner that will take UA miles that may be easier to use or offer a better experience? We live in Austin. -
Halp! Son got a new video card for his PC build that is a few years old. Had a 430w EVGA and upgraded to a 1000w 80gold EVGA. We’ve now tried 3 EVGAs and have now switched to a Corsair. While the testers either worked or we could use a paper clip to ensure that the fans would spin, we cannot get the MB to start, even with only the psu connected to the 24 Pin MB, the 8pin cpu and the hard drive connect to the MB - even by jumping the 2 Pin power with a screw driver. Most aggravating is that we can use the old PSU in this set up and it starts fine. Also used the old psu on his brother’s cpu and it started fine but a new psu had the same issue - pressing power button or jumping from the pins worked on old psu but not four seemingly operational PSUs. The MB is a Gigabyte ga-z97x-gaming 3 with an i5 chip. Only dealing with an old 5.1 setup with multiple inputs and no access has been more frustrating than this.

How much do you pay for siriusxm?
Austinvines replied to thunderlounge's topic in Can You Help Me With This?
I have XM but listen to Stern so I have to get the XM All Access subscription. So far, I’ve been getting it for $10/Mth for a 6 month sub. Anyone do better? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Bob's walking rhythm guitar on Eternity is nice. I am trying to remember any Bobby song that could transport me with his lyrical rendition and I am coming up a little blank. Cassidy is a great song with epic jamming capabilities but it doesn't hit me anything like hearing Jerry on Days Between. That song is so freaking poignant and it was the last Jerry ballad I heard 5.21.95 at the Silver Bowl. (this isn't it but it is good nevertheless) Days Between 7.24.94

I am totally ignorant about most O&G issues but I am needing to learn on the fly a bit so I appreciate any handholding/explanation anyone is willing to give,. Can someone explain to me how a midstream NGL facility makes money and how they get their gas to process? Is the plant held captive to what pipeline company/gathering system it is hooked into?

My wife was super pissed that the gift card her mom had given us two years ago to a new restaurant in town wasn’t valid anymore. She went online to check the balance and got back “card not valid” after putting in the information. I looked at the card and didn’t see a web address to check balances and asked her how she checked it. “I went to giftcardbalance.com.” “What made you go to that website? I don’t see anything about it in the card itself.” “Why wouldn’t they make one place you could go to check your balance?” “Maybe they should but why do you think there is one website to check the gift card balance of every card in the world?” Tone.

Wood floors vs. Ceramic "wood" look tiles
Austinvines replied to Nonbryan's topic in Can You Help Me With This?
We re-tiled our downstairs last summer with the wood-like tile. Downstairs was a mix wood, 12" tile and carpet and we wanted a unified look. The house had wood in the kitchen when we moved in and it was damaged in the wet areas by the sink, dw, fridge and back door. We have a pool now and definitely wanted tile to not worry about wet kids or dogs going through the kitchen. We went with a very dark tile and very dark grout. We originally we wanted a 42" plank but they were back-ordered so ended up with a 32" x 6" one. They look and feel great. Ours are just ceramic, but you can pay extra for one that has the same color all the way through. I guess in case they chip it won't show a white spot underneath? We have abused the tile by moving plenty of heavy and sharp footed furniture around and the tile stands up fine. If you have the means, solid wood floors that can be refinished time and time again will last as long as the house. You will pay a lot to have them and if you have wet areas, you will hate seeing the damage that will absolutely happen unless you are meticulous with spills, over-spray, etc. If you are just going to get an engineered wood floor installed that has limited abilitly to be refinished [think about refinishing those very popular hand scraped floors with all the character] you are better off going tile. -
Words and phrases that bug the living shit out of you
Austinvines replied to Goo Punch's topic in Lulz
“Step foot” is the closet to, if not the most ridiculous phrase anyone can type/write. You don’t step with anything besides your feet so you are either totally ignorant or just trying to be wordy, which makes you totally ignorant. No one would say “clap hand” and dolts who “step foot” are simpletons. -
Anyone hear of Whitfield's? BBQ truck opening tonight at Davis and Brodie. Free beer and wine until they run out. Co-owned by Kasey Studdard. https://www.facebook.com/WhitfieldsATX/photos/a.189362781840334.1073741829.189355688507710/218114765631802/?type=3&theater

Have you checked out troublefreepool.com? If you don’t have a saltwater chlorine system 130 alk isn’t way out of bounds. Maybe you are already using the pool math calculator but raising your ph too much can cause issues with plaster. A water change could also get you back to normal and may be cheaper than adding a ton of potash to your pool. What do you need to flock the pool for?

Strava is a good phone app that will track miles, speed, heart rate (with the strap), climbing, and it tracks your progress on user defined segments so you can gauge your progress. This is all free, but you can upgrade for around $60/year to get more in-depth analysis on your rides and fitness level. You can just start the app and stash the phone in your jersey pocket. You won't have immediate feedback, but unless you have the strap, or want to see how fast you can get cranking on a downhill, you may not need/want any info while you are riding. If you want a computer, I have a spare Garmin Edge 25 and is about the size of a book of matches that will link to your Strava account and gives you the choice of the data you want to see, like speed, distance and HR, on one page. I think you can have it auto-scroll through other pages if you want more info than can fit on one screen. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/508489 $75 and its yours. I know you are riding with the spouse and this really doesn't work for multiple users on the same device but it will get you started to see if you want a more robust computer. The Edge 520/+ are great and are smaller than a deck of cards, but start at $250 new.
