  1. Back feeding is a separate issue that you have to be aware of. The other issue with a double-ended male cord is that you have a live male plug if you unplug the end feeding your house before you turn your generator off or unplug it from the running generator. It isn’t too far fetched for your wife or kid or whoever to unplug an extension cord.
  2. We’re you unable to blow her back up when the power went out?
  3. I’d get someone in there before you have mold issues. Have them take a shitload of pictures and start ripping out flooring and drywall.
  4. I’m guessing an increased monthly fee in exchange for a cap or the ability to spread the cost over a couple of months.
  5. But how are they going to prove it? My furnace wasn’t working the other day. It seems to be working now. I’m not sure what happened. Or I had it set at 68 degrees like Atmos said. Shit froze anyway.
  6. Don’t you normally have to piss on South Austin’s mom to get inside of her? Kinda the same thing.
  7. Griddy emails that I received: 2/11 - They mention expected high prices next week 2/12 - “If the forecast and prices are too extreme for you right now, we understand if you want to switch providers. While we value you as a member, we want what is best for your wallet and family even more.” 2/13 - “Prices are looking to stay at record rates over the next couple of days due to the polar vortex. Your well-being is more important than our bottom-line. Unless you are a Griddy energy-saving expert, we recommend you immediately switch to another provider due to these price surges.” They also called me and told me (left a voicemail) to switch. I forget what day that was. I initiated a switch late on 2/14 and I was switched over by about 11am on 2/15. I reduced consumption to less than 20kWh/day for 2/13 & 2/14. It cost me just under $40/day for those 2 days. Any assclown with a $17k bill ignored all warnings and had his (all electric) furnace set at 80 with his doors wide open.
  8. Yes. It’s about 75lbs dry. If you go up to 3kW, they are ~140lbs. The bigger ones obviously output more power and hold more fuel. They also come with wheels, so if you’re able to roll it into position from wherever you store it you should be good.
  9. Agreed. I’ve found that a nice pair of jugs can get me through some hard times. I’ve got a Yamaha EF2400iSHC that I highly recommend. It’s basically the biggest inverter generator that can be handled by one guy. Honda and Yamaha also have 2.2kW generators that are great. Cord through a window and stuff a towel in the gap. There are more elaborate solutions as well. I’m sure that 40kW generator will go over well in Pecan Plantation. I’d spring the extra money for a 2-2.2kW generator. They aren’t much more money and you can run a bunch of stuff in addition to your furnace. They’re designed for it. Dual alternators, heavier gauge wiring, high idle RPM... This is a good way to kill yourself or someone else. A 2kW generator should be enough to run all of the things that you mentioned. I believe that gas can no longer be easily siphoned from cars. You may need to cut into a fuel line to tap into your car’s fuel supply.
  10. Don’t leave your dog outside all day with nothing to do.
  11. I’ve probably been to Schulenberg a hundred times over the past 20 years and I’ve never had the desire to eat BBQ there.
  12. You may want to order one now. They’re probably going to be in short supply for a while. I’d fix it myself if you can isolate water flow and unthread the valve. This. That’s an extra closet in the hallway, which has value.
  13. Tenants are assholes. They probably didn’t do it because they were cheap. Next time offer them a rent reduction if there are no issues post-thaw.
  14. I don’t necessarily disagree with this, but those farmers and their neighbors are probably the first ones to argue against socialized anything, except their subsidies. And their Medicare. And their social security. [/NoCR]
  15. Wouldn’t your father have been 173 in 1997?
  16. Please tell me that you aren’t a lawyer.
  17. You can get a 98% efficient gas furnace. You won’t get quoted one unless you specifically ask for it.
  18. At low pressures (like household water pressures), it don’t make a shit. At high pressure, damaging the seals.
  19. He should get on Nextdoor or the neighborhood Facebook page and put out a call for help. There’s probably a handy guy nearby that would be willing to take a look.
