Today Rupp played with all the kids who love dogs, willingly kenneled for the olds who are skittish, went fishing with anyone who would take him, and made Thanksgiving everything it should be for a dog. He's pooped now. Good boy, Rupp.

Yes, I do. I really do. I believe that.

Dry brining for ~48h, hence the cheesecloth recommended by Kenji: @scottsins, I can't imagine a short dry brine would do any harm. I will say that I've been much happier with a dry brine in terms of simplicity and results.

Just finished our yearly family screening. I'm one of those people who's awful about watching my favorite movies over and over, but this one gets limited to a single annual showing. And this is more for the homebrew thread, but tapped this at the opening scene: "To the wives."

I'm not really sure if I should post this here or in the fishing thread, but I figure @troph will see it either way. Although we're far from sophisticates, we've gotten to be big fans of Joshua Been out of Salida, CO. He does some amazing work and is great to visit with, also does his own framing which cuts down on the decision making process for me. He paints a variety of things, but obviously centers on Colorado landscapes and outdoor stuff. He's also smart enough to know that visiting fly fishermen are prone to spend money on anything related to fly fishing. We've picked up several of his paintings over the last few years. Like most art, photos really do no justice to the textures and brush strokes, but here are a couple we got recently: He suckered me in with this fly fisherman: And my wife with this fly fisherwoman: If you're ever in the area (which you shouldn't be, because we're supposed to be keeping it secret), check him out.

@Irwin F Fletcher, how about a bottle of beer made out of beer cans, and a counterpoint can of beer made out of bottlecaps?

Girl dad talk not going away. (seriously, I salute y'all. Dunno how you do it.) Tonight my older son's senior football season came to an end in an OT heartbreaker. The same creature I carried to the NICU in my arms when he was born now required me to get up on my tiptoes to hug him. Same arms, same kid, same dad, but so much in between. I held on to that hug tonight a little longer than he'd have liked, but he indulged me. I didn't want to let go, but I had to. It was time. The reason everyone tells you that it goes fast is that they never really believed it would for them, just like you believe it won't for you. Damn.

Bump. My EZGO RXV batteries are on their last legs, and I'm thinking about going to lithium. Anybody done the conversion? @Rivers, y'all are just parts, not installation, correct? Any thoughts on making the switch? My local shop sells factory lithium but doesn't do conversions.

They should just cut out some of your colon and move it up there. Would make your burps smell fantastic. Don't google "colonic interposition." Or do, whatever floats your boat. Give it hell, SBB, RD, and any and all others unspoken who may be reading this thread. We love y'all (homo, no homo, whatever).

Had been meaning to bump this myself. I had some time off a couple weeks ago and finally brewed for the first time since January. Making a Kölsch, a kinda bastardized Kölsch recipe from AHS that's going to get serrano peppers, and the AHS recipe Kwiek farmhouse ale (love that one) that's fermenting at ambient garage temperature. Very sad to hear about their storefront. I almost always order online from them, and wondered what the hell was up. Most of the stuff I've gotten in my last few orders has been Northern Brewer branded, and a lot has been packaged all wonky. I can't imagine they'd disappear entirely given their other affiliations, but I guess nothing is safe these days.

For both of mine, a double feature of Dazed and Confused/Fast Times a Ridgemont High was a prerequisite the week before they started high school. Both Rushmore and The Life Aquatic have some good father/son themes. I'll echo Stand By Me. It came out when I was in Jr high, and they saw it at that age themselves. They loved it, and I think it's a great movie for the awkward and uncomfortable adolescent years. And I think Goonies accomplishes the same thing from a comedic perspective. And for some fun, follow Full Metal Jacket with Stripes as a double feature. They are mirror images.

I haven't spent a ton of time in FC, but we were up there on a college visit this summer, and there are definitely a ton of great breweries. As for me, I'm very partial to Equinox in the Old Town area. Love the brews and the chill atmosphere. There's a fly shop just down the block, although I didn't make it there. Cooper Smiths has decent food and okay brews, but sitting on their back patio is very pleasant. I didn't get to hit Funkwerks this time and it's been years, but it was great back then. I'll second Ginger and Baker, very good for breakfast.

Since this is never going to happen, I'm getting my popcorn ready for when a player like Overshown in this situation sues the incompetent official for damaging their NIL value.

TRAVEL: Points, Miles, Discounts, Tips, Advice & Questions
Damor replied to Spankytoes's topic in Food and Travel
Dumb question amnesty, plz. The situation is taking the family to Maui next summer. 1) Now that AA does not charge change fees, I understand that I should be able to make reservations and rebook if the price drops. If I do that, I understand that comes back as a travel credit rather than a refund, but is that credit to each passenger, or would it come back to me to use however? 2) In one of those quirks, it's cheaper right now to fly into DFW, then to OGG rather than driving there and taking the direct flight. If we fly in the evening before and have an overnight layover, we are good to use the Centurion lounge without the 3-hour window, correct? -
Yikes, I guess I've been out of the loop -- I had no idea that ACK was no more. I was wanting to get some minor repairs and accessories added to my Diablo Amigo. Anybody have any recommendations in the Austin area or north? I can order stuff online, but would love for it to be competently installed. I've already done the drag-a-leaky-hull-back-to-shore-while-lab-keeps-trying-to-jump-onboard thing before.

You're just gonna sit there and take that?

@Chewbacca as this thread attests, I suck at fly fishing, especially as compared with our resident gurus. That said, I feel like I have developed some relative expertise lately in breaking rods and buying more. I'll pile on with the TFO recommendations. I have a 5wt LK legacy, and it was cheap and easy to order a replacement for the section I broke. Arrived in a couple days. It's a faster action than I was used to, but seems very versatile and handles my shitty streamer casting pretty well. I also bought an Echo Carbon XL which I really like. More of a medium action as compared with the TFO LK., and I think it was only about $150ish. No comment on the warranty/repair process, as I haven't broken it yet. Give me a couple more weeks.

https://bijanmustardson.com/ I was going to check HEB, but I just don't know if they're open.

Dammit. What an amazing guy. Here's a great remembrance by Jeff McCord of KUTX: https://kutx.org/eklektikos/radio-legend-john-aielli-passes-away-at-76/ Thanks for everything John, including introducing me to Tuvan throat singing, guessing what color shirt you were wearing that day, and cracking me up at dead air.

Headed back home from Colorado, which is always a melancholy drive. Didn't have a lot of luck on the Gunny, but had a lot of fun. My younger caught another cutbow and I managed some humble but fun browns. From a fishing perspective, much of the rest of the trip was limited by a strange phenomenon where droplets of water fell...out of the sky! Also, my boys wanted to go hiking outside of Crested Butte and they discovered biking at Hartman Rocks and at this stage of life, as much as I love to fish poorly, whenever they ask me to take them to do something cool, the answer is always "Yes."

Salida. We're heading out from here to Gunnison tomorrow. It's been awesome as always. Since I suck at fly fishing, we went out with the guides from Arkanglers. When we went wading my younger one caught a nice cutbow just north of town: Then when float fishing, their guide took him and my wife down Brown's Canyon (!) and they hauled in 25+, including a 20" rainbow for him: My older one and I didn't do nearly as well south of town, but I was happy enough with a few decent browns And of course I goofed around in the river park on the days the boys were playing. While this fish isn't anything special, it was a hell of a lot of fun on the 3wt fiberglass rig: This town is so great. I can never decide if I like it better here or in Gunnison. We'll see what happens next.

T-minus two hours before we hit the road for Colorado. And to give them kudos, Scott got my rod fixed and shipped back a week ago! It's just too bad that I'd bought a TFO LK in the meantime. Whatever shall I do??? (Narrator: He shall not catch fish with any of them.)

Bump. Thanks to all for the info. Going to be in Denver a couple of nights with family and going to the Rockies game on Wednesday. Are 1Up and Urban Putt likely to be a mess during the day? I was thinking we could hit one or both of those for the kids and wander to some breweries for the dads.

To clarify, I don't catch bass/panfish on the 5wt in central Texas, where I broke my Scott not catching fish, hence the repair and ordering the backup TFO. I plan to use that to not catch trout in a couple weeks in Salida and Gunnison. I am pumped because thanks to this thread, I also put together a 3wt fiberglass setup I hope to use to not catch some brook trout in some small alpine creeks. I guess I could probably successfully not catch tarpon on a 5wt as well, but I have never tried, and if someday I do, I'll probably go ahead and buy some expensive heavyweight saltwater gear to not catch them with. I think that about sums it up for me.
