2025 Thread of the Rains
Unfortunately, this is the environmental reality of Texas today: In order for large swaths of our state to emerge from devastating drought it will require rain events that will destroy other areas. This storm is both tragic and life restoring.

Getting old sucks
Stockton is indeed an orthopedic surgeon & was a kicker & punter for Texas '98 - 2000. Pretty damn reliable & had a walk off kick to beat the aggies at DKR as well.

Getting old sucks
How long did my fellow old farts wait to address arthritis in your big toe(s]? My left one is pretty sore at the end of the day (I try walk a lot/stand as much as a white collar job allows; 12,000 steps a day is common). Flexing it upwards can result in a sharp pain. And when I get in bed at night sometimes the pressure of the covers causes it to flair up. It almost never bothers me during the day & I'm still one of the fastest walking SOBs you'll ever find (it's a running joke at work). I'm thinking it might be time to go see Kris Stockton like my wife did. He fileted her left big toe to remove a bone spur & clean up stuff, but she's definitely on the arthritis train. Our favorite moments are our daily walks & easy/moderate nature hikes. I shudder at the thought of losing that ability.

Enjoying a cold one while the rain falls on the zoysia I just finished mowing 15 minutes ago. 78613.

Trump’s America
Ramifications? For today's GQP? Repeat after Brisket: the cruelty is the point! They really believe that the policies will hurt everyone they don't like & somehow exclude themselves.

Just Shoot Me
Haven't seen it in years, but we got into a routine of re-watching Frasier at night awhile ago and near the end of the series when Martin marries the boys' former babysitter, Ronee, I found myself trying to figure out who the actress was that played her due to her distinctive voice. The actress is Wendie Malick who played Nina Van Horn

Off Grid Alaska
Yikes. So which river provides the barrier for you, the one on the east that runs through Ferry and Anderson, or the one on the west?

Now that's kind of a big deal.

Political Cartoons - The Politics Thread.
That cartoon would be far more effective if the ball wasn't even on the green.

Holy crap: $100 million Brinks heist at CA truck stop
I tell ya, in a classic film full of great lines this gem isn't given enough credit. It explains not just everything about Cheritto's character, it shines a revelatory light on all the crew. Chris was broke (in every way possible) & needed the score. Neil didn't need the heat & every instinct told him to walk...but the action. Not the money. Not the final big heist. Plus the heightened juice of knowing Vincent & his entire crew were on to them. Neil was so good even he couldn't resist breaking his one code.

Bobby Cole for Texas Governor?
How long will it take the Texas GQP to paint a straight, white male firefighter turned successful cattle rancher as a DEI-loving socialist groomer who drinks the blood of the kids he's trafficking in from Mexico due to his love of open borders?

Texas Offseason 2025 - Archmania Is Upon Us
A guy in an old FFL I was in went to SA Marshall HS the same time Priest did. I think he was a couple years older than Priest. Short, stocky white dude who played FB and occasionally got the ball near the goal line per his older brother (who was also in our league). The dude used to love to brag in a serious manner how he kept Priest on the bench in HS. This was when Priest was wrecking shit for the Chiefs and fantasy owners were almost guaranteed a deep playoff run if they rostered him. But his former HS teammate would never draft him even when he had the chance. He "knew what PH was REALLY like" and claimed he was a selfish player. Oh, that guy's name was Kyle. Care to guess where he went to college?

Gems(?) found in my parents' record collection
We had the very same Puff, The Magic Dragon album. I'd forgotten about that album cover until seeing your post. I always thought was pretty damn scary looking with that mouthful of sharp teeth and those dagger-esque claws.

Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen
So on a 1-10 scale, how far out of left field would you call this commitment?

Carol Kaye: "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame can suck my dick!"
I get the point she's making and that is that there were hundreds of studio musicians working on those albums and that it's a disservice to their contributions if you try to assign them all to the name that drummer Hal Blaine gave to them 30 odd years down the road.

Israel is attacking Iran
Sounds like the assignment executed by the secret service agent(s) when Melania presses her special call button.

Israel is attacking Iran
The official briefing from the Pentagon this morning was something. Hegseth had a full serving of Trump's cock & balls in his mouth, selling the same MAGA-message this administration relies on: Trump is a god-like leader, only He could have lead this attack (Operation Midnight Hammer), this attack is the result of previous administrations' failures, blah blah blah. I'm surprised they're not selling commemorative t-shirts branded with Operation Midnight Hammer on it already.

Texas A&M Recruiting 2026: The World's Drunkest Elk
So aggy is making one last "all in" push & trying to buy the bestest class ever again by overpaying & making the seriously run programs say "ummm...OK. Good luck with that", right?

Jaws 50th
Saw it during the summer of '75 at the Cottage View drive-in, Cottage Grove, MN. I was 5. I refused to get in the bathtub for weeks after so my dad had to hit me with the water hose in the backyard to bathe. Parenting was different back then. Dreyfuss & Shaw hating one another during the production is quite legendary. Two drunks at different arcs of their careers with a young, unproven director who was in danger of getting fired on a daily basis equals an explosive set. In one "making of" doc I recall hearing how Spielberg couldn't figure out how to edit together the Indianapolis scene. I think he called on many of his friends & at one point Scorsese, Lucas & maybe even Coppola joined him in the editing suite. However it came together, it made for one of the most iconic scenes in film history. Anyway. We delivered the bomb.

Tariff wars, they have began
So I told congress to take that $88 billion & start building the golden dome immediately! Right after you finish the border wall. Should take about two weeks!

Adrian Peterson broke?
Peterson should be an entrant on plenty of death pools going forward. I'd put his o/u at 55 years.

The greatest music biopic ever made
Tag this thread to revisit in late October when Deliver Me From Nowhere is released. Jeremy Allen White as Bruce during the recording of Nebraska has potential to not suck. Or suck shitballs.

2025 Celebrity Death Pool
