  1. 12 Angry Men needs to be mentioned. American Gangster
  2. There is some truth in that Twitter graphic. Specifically the 35 year old CRT TV with rabbit ears, since that was the broadcast technology of the day the last time they were relevant.
  3. Didn't expect them to convert after 2nd and 24. Fantastic catch by Osborn and Akers is delivering in the screen game.
  4. Niner PK still has the yips. Skol!
  5. This is a key part of the development and production. Scorsese earned the trust of the Osage and they in turn helped them tell the story in a way that otherwise might not have been seen. Also, Leo was originally cast to play agent Tom White (Jesse Plemon's character) which would have made it more of the standard "white man coming to the rescue of the natives" narrative. He discussed it with Marty and they realized that character they understood the least was Ernest, so that's what they tried to understand: why he acted the way he did.
  6. A few more thoughts since seeing it and I've been able to discuss and process the film a bit more with my wife: The highest compliment I could give to Scorsese is how confident and in control he is. Obviously he's a master filmmaker, but the restraint he showed was stunning. How do you make a $200mm dollar film look like a documentary? This is how. For a man behind some of the most iconic cinematography and images in the last half century, he let the camera hide throughout most of the scenes. Static shots. Medium and close up shots of the actors. Limited tracking. He made sure the audience was forced to witness everything in this world. It made the few "big" shots in the film that more powerful when they appeared. The violence was so matter of fact and casual it underscored how little the loss of life to the Osage members mattered. It was just something that needed to be done, as mundane as most of the "jobs" the whites pretended to do while scheming ways to steal from the wealthy tribe members. I'm not going to waste anyone's time with the performances of the actors, but that was a master class through and through. And Jason Isbell...save some talent for the rest of humanity, dude. Recapping the post trial events via showing a live radio broadcast dramatizing the event. Fantastic. A million times better than the standard onscreen text tying things up, but also a sly commentary about how crimes, murder and injustice has been both entertainment and lucrative since the ability to recreate and broadcast it has existed. I'm sure we'll watch it again soon at home. Bravo, Marty. I don't want to be greedy because if that's the last film you ever make then job well done. I think he's only got two more big projects he's been trying to make for many years and those are both biopics: Sinatra and Teddy Roosevelt (with Leo as TR). Stay healthy.
  7. Our show is in 2 hours. Can't wait. I'm an early riser but am holding off on coffee to limit my bathroom breaks during this (hoping to be able to only take one). Re: intermissions, I believe the studios many years ago decided that an intermission was the kiss of death and that audiences stayed away. Some even stopped listing a run time of anything approaching 3 hours, opting to say it was 178 minutes or some shit in the hopes that the audience was too stupid to do the math (a safe bet). It's funny, because my wife is almost as excited to see this film as I am, primarily due to the subject matter and some distant family connections to the Osage. She doesn't like Leo at all, and respects Scorsese's work more than admires it (the heavy violence of some of his biggest films turns her off). She's mumbling about the run time, but had no issues sitting through the 2'48 (plus almost 20 minutes of previews) Taylor Swift concert film last week w/ her niece.
  8. The Bears will kick Fields to the curb in a heartbeat for CW and hope they can get a mid-late round pick for Fields in a trade. If Chicago came out of the '24 draft with Williams and Harrison then this season is a massive success. Personally I think the NFL comp for Williams is Kyler Murray. He'll flash, make some wow plays and maybe even take a moribund team to the playoffs. But his diva, "me first" ways will result in him being a click bait QB. Riley should enjoy his dry as fuck brisket with an extra plate of dicks. His window for an NFL job is closing rapidly, and he's probably now considered the 3rd or 4th best coach in the PAC. Lulz.
  9. Holgo fucked himself. Lulz. Fuck you, Brando.
  10. Baxter [emoji869][emoji869][emoji869][emoji869][emoji869]
  11. Whittington pulled in the high heat & made some nice yards. Brooks is rolling.
  12. Fucking Brando and Tillman straight up laughing in the booth after the play. Not the time to be a chucker, guys.
  13. If you're trying to make sense of Brando, good fucking luck.
