  1. We've hit on this in one of these threads, but the false dichotomy of R vs. D ideas is so counterproductive. The idea that you can only choose one is unfortunately the political reality of a lot of legislation that tries to move itself through Congress these days. Instead of ignoring big problems, it would be so encouraging to see Congress sit down and hammer out compromises that reflect the melting pot of ideologies that send them to DC. For some legistlation, maybe the 'libs' in CA get some of the things they want, and the 'conservatives' in AL get some of the things they want. In the end, citizens' lives are helped or made better by their work. Our big problems are not unsolvable.
  2. On the brink of war with Iran. We've alienated most of our allies. We've cozied up to Russia and ignored election meddling. We pack immigrants into room/cages beyond their capacity and refuse to provide them with necessities. Rs are doing their dead-level best to torpedo ACA. The President is attacking individual members of Congress and lying about statements they have purportedly made for the purpose of roiling citizens against these women. For what WH/R policies should the 'libs' in the CR be patting the WH/Rs on the back?

  4. R vision for America. Fear.
  5. It's not like everyone in Congress hasn't negotiated business deals, salaries, house purchases, etc. in their lives. It seems like nothing like that happens in Congress anymore. I think ACA had several R amendments included in it. There were hearings and discussions about it. The Rs came within a hair of repealing ACA, and as far as I know they didn't have a replacement plan. At least they didn't have one that had been debated/amended/etc. I'm sure they had an old Word document on one of Newt Gingrich's old computers that they could've use. Or Susan Collins and Joe Manchin had worked out how 1/6th of our economy should work.
  6. I'm sure Trump and Rush/Tucker/Hannity chuckle among themselves during their midnight texting sessions. "We can get away with anything! I say whatever I want, then you walk it back, then I say it again a few days later. By then, nobody cares if I say it."
  7. They love to call the Ds Socialists but what do the Rs offer in 2019? Stabilizing healthcare for Americans, responsible foreign policy, responsible spending, dealing with immigration like adults? Anything but fear mongering and rolling back Obama's policies to own the libs?
  8. Enabling assholes like McCarthy and Rush need to nut up and just admit that they agree with it. That it's not just having fun.
  9. Bump for anyone who hasn't seen this.
  10. There's probably a better way to put it, but people are energized b/c AOC's ideas are aimed at fixing a problem. They're big ideas. Rs will complain that they're Socialist and far left. Instead of looking at that as a deal breaker, maybe members of Congress on both sides could look at it as a starting point? It seems like Rs and Ds in Congress don't even communicate with each other anymore.

  12. This is how I imagine things go in DOTUS' bedroom every night. Trump is often the puppet to advance the agendas of others. Putin has some level of control over him. Manafort's criminal proclivities got to spread their wings during the campaign. Bannon armed him with a few buzzwords like Build the Wall, and he got elected. Stephen Miller has disturbing ideas about immigration, and Trump puts those into action, with the side benefit that it's red meat for the 40%. Talk show hosts with political aspirations become confidants of Cheeto, and he implements their opinions on foreign policy.
  13. Imagine spending 1 second of your week worrying about it. Berkeley is liberal. Water is wet.
  14. Imagine how a R congressman would have acted while questioning the head of a dept. that circulated vile memes of him. She handled it beautifully.

  16. He's counting on the 12th man -- the Russkies.
  17. Yes. I was more thinking about people's favorite actors, or the biggest stars, for the last 30 years. Hanks is more of the everyman, but Cruise is right there as a star. I personally like Hanks better as an actor, but I like them both.
  18. He and Hanks would be at the top for the last 30 years. Equally big stars, just in different ways. Who else would rival them on that list?
  19. If the USA survives, The Squad and their generation will be running things before long. I hope that many women are the replacements for the old, white men. Let's see how they do. Old, white guys have had their time.
  20. Aunt Nancy doesn't have the energy or the desire (or both) to run 40 minutes of hell. She's shown that.
  21. Rudy sighting on Hannity. Hannity says Saudis have joined a coalition that wasn't possible 5 years ago.
  22. Yep. Said he was open to mending fences, but not really expecting it. Seemed at peace with it while owning up to being an ass in the past.
  23. Imagine if one of us had misled Congress like Hicks, allegedly, and Barr.
