  1. What year was that? My brother graduated from WT prior to the takeover. His diploma was signed by T. Boone Pickens. Aggy sent him a letter advising him of 'the once in a lifetime opportunity to trade in the WT diploma for a much more valued aggy diploma'. He wrote "FUCK OFF AGGY" on the letter and mailed it back.
  2. In 2014, I bought a Les Paul and knew I needed a Marshall so Paul Wesley sold me a Class 5. I loved the amp, but that Les Paul just didn't love me back and life is too short to drool over that beautiful guitar hanging on the wall and knowing it didn't love me, I traded it for something really old. But I kept the Class 5. I picked up that hollow bodied Gretsch last week. Right now I have a Blues Jr., Vox AC4 and the Marshall. Had to give the 65 Deluxe Reverb back to my brother. (sad panda) I'm test driving a Vox AC10 and AC15...thinking they would go well with the Gretsch. Thought maybe I didn't need that Marshall anymore and would use that as a down payment on either a new Vox or a pedal steel amp. Then, I decided to plug that Gretsch into the Marshall and turn everything up to 10, just for one last ear-ringing moment. Holy fuck......that amp really won't work for any of the groups I play with but when my wife pisses me off or I just need to burn up some nervous energy???????? That guitar and that amp get really angry and gritty together. Also, I'm playing with the settings on my compressor to really drag out the sustain. I mute a lot with my right hand and with the Gretsch, it really stops the sound, much more than on any other guitar I have. So, I'm really enjoying 'learning' to play a different way....and REALLY REALLY FUCKING LOUD. That is all.
  3. Lots of good tributes: But the Ranchero Brothers have been doing it for awhile: Skip to 1:20
  4. The bass player from the first high school band I was in played one. I fucking LOVED that thing. I think it might have belonged to the high school, but it stayed at his house. What a cool look. I actually played my guitar through it as well.
  5. @Buzzrock didn't you have a Boss Katana? Several steel players use them. Thoughts?
  6. This is the volume pedal. Moyo. Found the guy on the pedal steel forum. Next to my Dunlop pedal for comparison. Really compact and built like a tank. I still think I need more travel. Haven't tried the Dunlop yet.
  7. Yep. That is what most of them play. Big speaker, lots of clean headroom.
  8. Day isn't over yet and if my wife doesn't settle the fuck down, that very may well happen. And Vox AC15 was kind of giving me the eye as well. On the down side, the locally owned but larger shop (Ken Stanton Music) got sold to Music and Arts (aka Guitar Center). HATE that but the staff is still the same and they are all great guys. Saving $250 with the white one gives me that much more to spend on the amp for my pedal steel. The Blues Jr just doesn't sound right (can't be me...gotta be the amp). I also bought a small shop volume pedal that is much smaller than the Goodrich pedals you see. I thought that might be a good idea to save space but it doesn't give me the sweep that I thing I need. Found a factory blemish for $185 ($250 new).
  9. Funny you should say. The white one was last year's model. Made in Korea. $250 cheaper. May take it back for the orange. We shall see. Either way, NGD for hulla.
  10. That is so nice of you @Celery Man. And DAMN, that guitar is showing some wear and looks fantastic. I bet at that has gotten older, the sound has really opened up.
  11. Lake Street Dive did a new video from the park in Boston where they first went 'viral' with the Jackson 5 song. This time, Bonnie Raitt. Man, when they get a great song, they are hard to beat. I'm glad they added back a guitar player. The new keyboard guy is really good, esp on vocals, but they were missing that guitar. From 2012:
  12. Joe was 24 in this video. When I think of early 70s rock, this is a perfect example.
  13. Totally agree on Joe. He has written some of the most icon opening riffs. And I LOVE that drummer. Always enjoy watching and listening to him play. @jimmyjazz Where is he from?
  14. Any experience with Adorama purchases? They have a great deal on an open box Gretsch. It is calling me. 15. Be carefull man. Shit goes down at the Randalls.
  16. So many great details on this guitar. Soooo many. https://reverb.com/item/4440174-ernie-ball-music-man-albert-lee-mr-horsepower-nigel-tufnel-spinal-tap-2001-yellow-w-red-flame-graphi?utm_source=android-app&utm_medium=android-share&utm_campaign=listing&utm_content=4440174
  17. That was from their first album in the mid 70s. I always loved this song from that record. Not guitar driven but cool vocal harmonies. My first high school band I was in used to play this song.
  18. Nancy Wilson says they stole the riff from Nazareth when they covered some Joni Mitchell song called "This Flight Tonight".

    Elizabeth Cook.

She has been running buddies with Todd Snider for years. Really cool chick. I think she doesn't get the respect she deserves because of her schtick but she is a fantastic song writer. And I love her Elizabeth Cook For Sheriff campaign.
  20. After a few days on the pedal steel. Initial thoughts/impressions. I've built a little work station around me to help. I'm running an ipod into a Yamaha board through a PA speaker to play along with things. Also have a table set up to watch YT instructions and also look up how to play chords. I restrung it (and hope I don't have to do that for a very long time) and it sounds and plays much better and it also disclosed some mechanical issues with the pedals and levers but I think I've worked through them. I highly accurate tuner is a must. For $150, this Peterson Strobostomp is a steal for what it provides. I'm fucking tired of dropping finger picks and having to bend down and pick them up. I don't know if I will ever be able to use the finger picks. There are 4 basic hand positions and moving between them with those picks on is really tough to get used to. I'm fine with the thumb picks....and apparently some folks (Danial Lanois is one) don't use the finger picks. One bizarre thing that happened during restringing. I put the ball end through the 'bridge' slot which moves to change the pitch of the strings (either lever or pedal triggered). As I was winding the string, it slipped off of the peg, and the lever released, throwing the string out of the bridge slot. I have yet to find that string. LUCKILY, there were two of those strings included in the set...by accident. The ball ends were stuck together, so I had a built in spare. The Buddy Emmons gods were smiling down on me I guess. Learning the fret board and how it changes related to which pedals you are using is the key to this. But I'm having a blast learning it. I usually work on changing finger positions for a few minutes, then I concentrate on bar movement and finding chord relationships, then I put on some of my favorite songs I like to play on guitar and try to play along with them. Currently working my way throw the Hangdogs discography. I also spend some time trying to play along with random songs from my spotify list that I don't normally play on guitar. Next purchase is probably a steel specific pack seat. I thought about getting a drum throne but a good Roc-n-soc is about as much as a pack seat so I might as well get a good seat so I don't have to get used to something different if I ever decide to play this thing outside of my basement.
  21. $200 cheaper and in Nashville. https://reverb.com/item/57414787-quilter-labs-steelaire-rack-mount-200w-head
