  1. One thing they have to deal with is a fuck-ton of ideal time on their hands. I know a guy who was the guitarist for a fairly well known and highly regarded country band from the late 80s thru the 90s. He told me if you don't have something to keep your mind busy while on the road, you are fucked. After he got sober, he started learning card tricks and is now an incredible magician, but not professionally. He just does it to keep himself and people at a treatments center entertained. He told me a friend of his got sober and found a list of 100 books every man must read, and started at 100, and read his way to number 1.
  2. It's on. 7 delivered, 5 are thriving. Expecting 1 more.
  3. One year at the futurity (early 90s), they had a celebrity cutting horse contest . Barry Corbin was one of the riders, and a damn good one apparently. I wasn't there so my dad called me, sounding like a little kid. "I helped Maurice spot some cuts". I had no fucking idea what he was talking about. Took me a bit to decipher what he was talking about. He was a huge Northern Exposure fan. Apparently, the old man got to meet him when the turnback guys were cooling down a new herd for the celebrity cutting. Old man was sitting on his horse behind the judging stands and Barry rode up next to him, watching the cows trying to figure which ones to look out for so he asked the old man to help him.
  4. Holy shit, we're getting a new Martin!
  5. Lots of G&L owners on here. Maybe the best regular bang for your buck on any electric guitar. Not sure if you know but Leo Fender started that company. The name stands for George & Leo (George Fullerton and Leo Fender) but a lot of folks called it Guitars by Leo.
  6. Check out the name of the club. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Mustang,+TX+75109/@32.0136521,-96.4325534,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x864f2d60253a5f9b:0xc3e3155aef341c42!8m2!3d32.0134891!4d-96.4294263
  7. Ha. I've heard my mom use exactly one curse word in her life and it was used toward Buster. Maybe after he is gone to the big cutting horse show in the sky, I can tell the story. Personally, I think the surly crowd will like him even more once they hear the story.
  8. The great story of Snubbin' Post Brown. Around 1982, my dad and I were at the first round of the futurity when there is no crowd, only horsemen. It is a complete blast...or it was back then. Mr. Welch came up behind us and stopped my dad. My dad said, "Buster, this is my oldest son. Last time you saw him, he was about 'yea high'." Mr. Welch said, "Well son, I'm glad you got taller."
  9. My dad worked for Buster Welch in the early 60s. I was about 2 yrs old at the time. Buster had his place near Merkel and we lived out there in the boonies. Mr. Welch was already the man to go to for cutting horse training but things really took off when Mr. Howell (owner of Leo San) took Mr. San Peppy (aka Mr. Peppy) to Bubba Cascio to start. Mr. Cascio didn't have time so he sent him to Mr. Welch. If that hadn't happened, Mr. San Peppy would have likely been running at Ruidoso. Mr. San Peppy had a full brother about 10 years older named Peppy San who Matlock Rose trained. Peppy San was a hell of a horse that my dad got to ride some. That little bit changed cutting horse history. Mr. Welch bought Mr. Peppy then sold him to the King Ranch about the time Tio Kleberg wanted to upgrade the line. Then he ended up buying Peppy San Badger (aka Little Peppy) as well for the King Ranch. My dad worked for Mr. Welch for about 2 years, then a doctor in Olney, TX hired him to take over his horse operation. Here is Mr. Welch riding Bet Hesa Cat. (Owned by the 6666.) That big roan was 5 in this video and has been on Yellowstone several times. Mr. Welch was 83 here and had just suffered a stroke. He told my dad after this, "Those sumbitches tied my right hand to the saddle". A little more about Bet Hesa Cat. https://www.allbreedpedigree.com/bet+hesa+cat
  10. I've played that Gretsch guitar MANY times and really wanted to buy it but when I picked up the ones that start with a 6 in the model number, the quality difference really stands out.
  11. Another guy in the area has a high $$$$ male they imported from Germany. This is the first registered Rotty female around there so they bred her for the pups. Apparently, all of the pups are already sold with the owner of the male getting pick of the litter.
  12. Still no puppies but the 7 yr old has established she is on night watch.
  13. Looking for some good old country music? Bruce and the gang continue to knock it out of the park. Dig up a great old song and a fantastic singer and turn them loose.
  14. Daughter's Rottweiler is about to have her litter. Vet counts at least 8. She is just over 2 so this is her first batch.
  15. They are now with Jon Folk for a management team. This seems like a good thing. https://red11music.com/
  16. https://www.whiskeyriff.com/2021/11/24/nobody-panic-but-turnpike-troubadours-website-says-coming-soon/ Turnpike Troubadour News. Coming soon news
  17. Over the years, I have become more and more disgusted by college athletics and the NCAA. Occasionally, a good story comes along and gives me a sliver of hope. I know everyone has seen the videos of Jordan Davis directing the band. But before last year's Sugar Bowl, he went into the stands and thanked the band.
  18. I was going to buy one of those P90 versions then I stumbled upon the HB version in a local shop. I need P90s in my life. Look at what those are selling for on Reverb.... https://reverb.com/p/epiphone-es-339-p90-pro-2014-2019
  19. I vote that PRS above that 2005 Epi. I'm like Deej. The improvement in Epi between 2005 and now if massive. As an added aside, I swore I would never have an Epi (over a Gibson) but I have an Epi 339 that I absolutely love. The Gibson version of that guitar would cost about $2,000. I found this 339 for $200 used and it still had the pickguard sticker on it and even had a nice soft shell case that costs $100 new. I have some Seymour Duncan Antiquity humbuckers I'm going to put it in and going to put in a bone nut and for $600 I will have a fantastic guitar. Funny thing I realized recently. I always liked buying new....didn't want to buy someone else's problems. I'm the same way with cars...but right now: 1999 Fender Tele: Used for $200 2019 Epi 339: Used for $200 2001 Taylor: Bought new 1982 Hohner 12 String: Bought new 1962 Epi Century: Swapped a 2014 Gibson Les Paul that I bought new. The Epi was essentially a 1 owner guitar. Ovation Mandolin: Used for $150 Looking at a used Gretsch 5655 and a Gibson J-15 right now as well.
  20. Les Paul tone? We shall have a listen to Sadler Vaden.
  21. I LOVE this about Brandi as she talks about Kim Richey: And I'm STILL knocked out by her many "Madmen on the Water" covers. Everyone one is different and fantastic. And how she breaks into the lyrics of "Bitter Fingers" when someone says Denmark Street.
  22. I was pondering the same thing.
