  1. This podcast is done by one of the counselors from where I went to treatment. He started this after I was released. I get a lot out of it, but that may be a factor of my previous relationship with him and how much he helped me during and after my time there. One of my roommates said, "He is a cross between a trial attorney and an old school preacher". https://anchor.fm/john-clark59
  2. Dammit Bogey...I have work I have to get done today.
  3. I read that article when it came out. Also added in to the cost of that is all of the time he had to put in to it. I can't imagine the cluster-fuck of phone calls to and from China, then trying to locate it after it shipped, then arrangement more shipping to get it close to you.
  4. I really want need a new acoustic. I'm wanting to try out those new Epi 'Inspired by Gibson' guitars. I've watched every review and although I really want a Gibson, I just can't afford it right now. Looking mostly at the J45, although I really dig those Hummingbirds. Also, I'm about to head back to Carter's and Gruhn's to see if I can find maybe a D18. Only probably with that is the fucking sales tax adds 9.25% to the price. So, to the Which Guitar? D28 all the way.
  5. Good lord, his "Stealing Fire" album is so good. I bought it the moment I heard this: This was before "Rocket Launcher" took off. I saw T-Bone Burnett one night and followed a group from there and ended up at some house in Atlanta where Cockburn and Shawn Colvin were hanging out after one of their shows the same night, sitting on a porch with guitars.
  6. On Earth Wind and Fire, "September", there is a GREAT episode of Strong Songs. He also does one on ELO's "Mr. Blue Sky". https://strongsongspodcast.com/
  7. I bought that album as soon as I heard her voice. Instantly reminded me of Joan Armatrading. What a talent.
  8. Ha. Yep....plus, it is actually based on a true story. I have an embarrassing amount of knowledge on Canadian bands from the 80/90s. Blue Rodeo, Skydiggers/L'Etreanger/Andrew Cash/Cash Brothers, Tom Cochrane, Grapes of Wrath, Tragically Hip.
  9. Good lord, I forgot she did this. The balls it took to walk out on that stage with just a guitar. That entire debut record was fantastic.
  10. Good lord, I LOVED that record.
  11. His 1991 one, The American In Me is so fucking good. Probably in my Top 25 of all time. In the late 90s I saw him and the house music was a soundtrack from "Across The Universe". Ol' Steve went on multiple rants about all of the good music out today, but this places chose to play music by some obscure band called "The Beatles" . When I say multiple, I mean after every 3rd song. It was comical but he was not at all pleased by it. He is still a fantastic songwriter.
  12. If a person cares enough about something, they will make things happen.
  13. This guy has some cool t-shirts and hats based on the same thing. Great customer service, good quality products. Based in Dallas. https://www.rage-free.com/shirts Home page: https://www.rage-free.com
  14. This is the band that first came to my mind. 4 really good dudes from a really good debut album, then got absolutely fucked the their record label and horrible timing.
  15. I put Tommy Tutone and Fountains of Wayne in the same category. They may have had only one song that was on the radio but both are FANTASTIC writers of pop songs, especially Fountains of Wayne. Just a fantastic band. And Tommy Tutone? Two GREAT songs from their debut album. I wish some drummer could explain the counting on the snare hits...if he is counting
  16. @AnotherUTFan I LOVE that cover artwork. I'll be sending you some contact info that we talked about before. The guy has a podcast called The Bottom Forty but he also has a record label based out of Portland.
  17. I got drunk with her on tequila at a bar in Tuscaloosa around 91. I may have asked her to marry me about 2 hours into that drinking session. Took me a week to recover.
  18. First time I saw Charley live was when he opened for Turnpike Troubadours. One guy described him as a minstrel. And apparently, he has slowed down a bit since his heart surgeries. LOVE the dude and so happy he is getting things done. About two years ago, some folks in Austin got him set up with a new promotions team and they have done a fantastic job with him.
  19. That "Life's Rich Pageant" tour was outstanding! They hadn't yet made it HUGE but were about a college/regional touring act. One of the better live shows I've seen. Fetchin' Bones opened up. Only bad thing was I had to drive to Oklahoma City to see the show. Setlist: (9/17/86) These Days / Harborcoat / Sitting Still / Maps And Legends / The One I Love / Shaking Through / Fall On Me / White Tornado / The Flowers Of Guatemala / I Believe / Driver 8 / Superman / Sloop John B / Can't Get There From Here / Old Man Kensey / Auctioneer (Another Engine) / Pretty Persuasion / Little Americaencore 1: Begin The Begin / Cuyahoga / Strangeencore 2: Toys In The Attic / Just A Touch / So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry)
  20. I've posted this before. This little group did a 7 or 8 day tour, announced as David, Gillian and 3 special guests. When they came out on stage, no introduction, but you could kind of hear a sweep across the audience as some people started realizing who was on mandolin. When they came back from their intermission at the halfway point, the place when nuts when JPJ walked out. Then it got deathly quiet in the room and one drunk dude says, in a really loud voice, "That's John Paul Fuckin' Johns, man". It was like he was talking to his buddy, but everyone in the room heard it.
  21. My local used shop had a Reeves Gabrels model that I LOVED, but they wouldn't come off the price at all. I really liked the neck of that guitar and it sounded fantastic. It was an older version of this one before they did the rails on the wound strings but they were just asking too much for a used guitar.
  22. Is he still just doing this tour solo? Last interview I heard, he wasn't taking the band out at all. He said, "Thankfully, they are all pretty good carpenters"
  23. I instantly thought of this.....and a bonus for the drummer.
