  1. thats what BARR said, NOT what SC Mueller said. Mueller clearly states their decision was based at least in part on the OLC's opinion while Barr said HIS own opinion was not.
  2. not many kids do it and the ones that do, most just end up staying at the partner school. if they do follow through, they are admitted into COLA and have a difficult time getting in to any other major.
  3. i could not agree more. plus once you get close to phantom ranch, its really nice to sit on the beach with your feet in the colorado.
  4. my advice is not to push to stay in ATX. the more you push, the more it will feel that UT is your idea instead of hers. present her with all the information and let her make an informed, mature decision.
  5. yall getting trolled.
  6. Our girl is not a Forty Acre Scholar but she did choose UT's Environmental Science Program over Cal, UCLA, Washington, Rice, Columbia, and NYU.
  7. Grand Canyon - We have visited probably a dozen times over the years. We either stay at Bright Angel or camp in a tent. Both are fun and have their advantages. If you can, hike down to Phantom Ranch and stay the night. To make a day of reservation, go into Bright Angel, go to the left of the main desk and talk to the people behind the tour desk. They usually have a cancellation or two at Phantom Ranch every day. They will try to deter you at first but if youre persistent, they will find a spot for you. Its an incredible experience. Hike down the Kaibab trail, stay the night, then hike back up the Bright Angel Trail. Make sure you walk the rim trail and go into all of the shops and museums. I love the Kolb house. Get on the bus and ride it from one end to the other. All the different views are amazing. Watch tower is awesome. Make sure you time it so you are at the sunset point at sunset. its an amazing view. Zion - We went last year and it was really great. We camped in a tent and hung out at the Zion Lodge in between hikes. The Narrows is a must do. Its different than any other hike I have been on. We didnt get to do Angel's Landing as it was closed but I have heard its amazing. We did several other hikes including the longest one up to the tallest point but I cant remember the name of it. It was a great hike and the view at the end was awesome. The little town next door is really nice and we walked in for dinner on a couple of occasions. The bus system to get around is really awesome. Try to catch a ranger talk or two if you can. They are really good. Bryce Canyon - I was really surprised by this one. It is not as big or overwhelming as the GC or even Zion but it is more intimate and just so unique in the landscapes. The hikes are really great and the views are just hard to beat. We tent camped and had a great time. We did a ranger talk and did the night sky viewing with the rangers as well. We really enjoyed Bryce Canyon a lot. We did the longest hike from one side to the other and got to experience the canyon and all of the interior views. Make sure you drive along the rim from one end to the other. The views are all different and amazing. The pizza place next to the main lodge is really good. Its a beautiful drive going from one to the next.
  8. I don't have an issue with how much he donated. And I thought his answer was sufficient and honest. I also don't have an issue with how much Bernie made or any other Democrat who has released their taxes. My only requirements are that the candidates release their taxes and those records do not show that they are compromised by a foreign power.
  9. And hopefully they will fireproof the roof structure this time like they did when they rebuilt the roof for ND in Reims.
  10. Macron says it will be rebuilt within 5 years.
  11. Apparently the wood needed to replace the roof has been growing at Versailles for hundreds of years.
  12. oh is that not the right one?
  13. We were just there three weeks ago. My wife, son and I had an inspired and solemn visit. I am heartbroken I wont be able to take my other kids to see what we saw. It looks like they stopped the fire from reaching the bell towers.
  14. fire is almost to the bell towers. its going to burn down... so unbelievably sad.
  15. land stayed the same, improvements went up 20% but were capped at HS rate at 10%.
  16. i dont think so. its not really what UT is about anymore. i remember the whole "look to your left, that person will flunk out the first year, now look to your right, that person wont graduate from UT" at orientation. now its all about retention through study groups, mentoring pods, and advisors at every step to make sure you graduate and are successful. i was like WTF? this is NOT the UT i attended!!!!
  17. you might want to try to appeal the decision as well. i know a friend who's kid appealed their CS rejection and was able to get in. just a FYI.
  18. Our oldest is in the CS program at UT. He was in top 10 at LT and made a little higher on SAT including an 800 on math and another 800 on the math subject test. He also had been coding since 4th grade and included several projects on his application with links. he also had insane extracurriculars and got into Plan II. He is in a house with EE and CS majors and the EE majors feel sorry for the CS students' workloads.
  19. TE Lake McRee, Lake Travis (Austin, TX): This tall drink of water has some potential, and a few early offers. A little stiff, but growing into his frame. He has received offers from Arizona, Arizona State, and Arkansas. He has played TE for 1 season, was a QB before that. He is 6'4, can jump and run well (played on LT Varsity FTBL and Basketball as a soph) and has great hands. Needs to add weight and continue to learn the TE position. great kid. my son's best friend. he is taking my son with him to the UT Spring game. Texas is monitoring him and he could earn an offer later depending on development. He would love to be a Longhorn.
  20. i heard the same recently about Leal.
  21. Following up on this, the girl chose TEXAS! We are so excited for her. She is 1 of 50 admitted into the Environmental Science program. We are 3 for 3 so far!
