There is zero chance CDC jumped the gun. He didn't write that press release. The people in the University's Marketing/PR department did. It had to go through approval of a process that included lawyers double checking to make sure there was nothing in it that could bring about litigation. There's no way that process excluded the top layers of the administration. Nobody jumped any guns. It looks like a clown show because WE don't know what's going on and THEY want it that way. Make no mistake, neither CDC or the administration is concerned with the views and opinions of the average alumni or fan. If you don't donate 6 figures or more annually, you're gonna sit this one out. Just like they never released anything other than basic illustrations of the designs of both the DKR expansion and The Moody Center prior to beginning the construction. The less you know, the better it is for them. By the time problems arise (if they do) and someone will need to fall on a sword, they will either be gone or on their way out anyway.

I once had the chance to knock Brando on his ass. He used to work for the same media company that I do, and he wanted to use our facilities for an interview or something. He was a real piece of shit. Fuck that guy.

For fuck's sake, Sark's Head Coaching record is 46-35. That's a fucking terrible resume for a stress-filled, top job like Texas. Add to that, his very questionable past, there is nothing to like about hiring Sark. Who cares what he did as OC at Bama? We're aren't hiring that position yet. The best indicator of future performance is past performance, and Sark's past performance has been horrible. That said, this move is right in line with how Texas handles these things. Got lucky with DKR and Mack and have struck out with every other hire in the modern era. Why should this one be any different? If true, I hate this hire.

I hope you are right.

Until Meyer either accepts or turns down the offer, this ain't over. We're on his timeline. It's UM or Herman. No one else is in the mix. They won't fire Herman without a deal already being done with Meyer. The opinions of anyone else don't matter. The fact that Meyer hasn't turned it down means he's thinking hard about it, or we haven't made a serious offer yet. If he wasn't interested, we would know already. My guess is that we aren't nearly as far along in the negotiations with him as all of the "insiders" are claiming. Patience is a virtue.

I publicly celebrated both events appropriately when they happened.
-
Don't know if this means anything about the events of today, but according to my Facebook memories, it was 10 years ago today that Greg Davis was fired. Also, 7 years ago Gary Kubiak was fired by the Texans. Maybe, just maybe . . .
-
That still doesn't explain how ANYONE lying about knowing what UM is gonna do, is going to help Herman, or stop Meyer from taking the job. It's entirely disconnected.
-
I mean, I guess anything is possible, but that's a bit of a stretch. Herman pretty much burned his bridges with Ohio St. I can't imagine that someone connected with OSU is gonna throw Herman a bone just to keep UM from going to Texas. And secondly, I don't see how anything that goon has said will help Herman or persuade UM not to take the Texas job. He's just grandstanding.
-
You may be right, but what evidence do you have? We just made it through and entire Saturday where every pregame and halftime show at least mentioned the rumors, and we still don't have a public no, or anything close, from Meyer or his camp. Plus NONE of the Texas media types or "insiders" have claimed he's said no yet. I'm pretty skeptical about these situations, but so far this is unfolding like it's gonna happen. It may not. We don't know and won't until we hear a no from UM or see him get off a private jet in a burnt orange jacket.
-
That Barton dude isn't Herman's agent and probably hates Herman like every other Buckeye. He's was apparently on Meyer's staff at Ohio St at one point. That doesn't mean he knows jack shit about what UM is thinking or planning on doing though. And there's zero actual evidence to suggest that he's communicating with Meyer aside from his own claims, which many have easily been dissected and proven erroneous.
-
He's dissembling. He's making shit up to either make himself feel better or to try to make Texas fans feel bad. He has no actual information, and you can tell that because he presents no actual information. Everything he presents "is going to happen" not has happened and here's the proof. If he's exchanging texts or emails with UM, all he has to do to prove his position is post a screen cap. He hasn't been shy about making his claims. It would be super easy to prove them with one little screen cap. He can't say they're secret because he's posting what they allegedly say on the fucking internet.

To be fair, Armstrong firing Meyer happened after the scandal and because he wouldn't take his advice how to handle it. He got fed up and ended the relationship. That doesn't mean that they didn't patch things up and resume the relationship. But I've found no evidence to support that either way. It's weird, because it's not usually that difficult to find the name of a big time coach's agent, if they have one. That Barton guy's posts are all supposition. He knows absolutely fucking nothing about what UM is thinking or doing.

To me the process is playing out exactly as you would expect. A) Herman fails to meet preset standard for performance that was laid out to him prior to the season by CDC B) Herman is fired for failing to meet that standard C) Texas agrees to terms with Urban Meyer and finalizes contract D) Meyer and his wife and family are introduced as Head Football Coach. We just achieved step A a little more than 2 hours ago. For the sake of stability of the program and the benefit of the players, they may very well wait until after the Kansas game for the rest to play out. Until UM says no, this thing is still moving forward. Despite what any knuckle-dragging Ohio St mouth-breather posts on Twitter or anywhere else. As far as Urban's agent goes, Trace Armstrong fired Urban, and from what I heard and read, it was not an amicable parting. As far as I can tell, currently Meyer only has a Talent Agent, but I can't seem to dig up who it is. His booking agent is publicly available, but his Talent Agent isn't publicly listed. I've put out some feelers to see if some of the people I know in the TV biz know or can get that info, but it's late Saturday early Sunday and this might all play out before I get a response.
-
Shit! I just brought this up too.
-
Ok, so there's something nobody has mentioned about things going dead. Considering that it is well known that UM wants his guys to come with him, and his guys are all currently working at Ohio St, who happens to still be in the hunt for a playoff spot, perhaps he's attempting to provide some cover to his guys as long as he can as a professional courtesy. People asking them about possible future jobs at Texas, while trying to prepare for important games would be a bit of a distraction that nobody wants at this point. If Texas knows that UM is in, Texas can wait however long it takes for everything to play out.

So here's my guess: Squid predicts that in 3 days Buckeyes eat crow, Longhorns celebrate. Hook 'Em, Squid. And FTR, as someone who actually works in the TV business, I seriously doubt that Fox is terribly worried about losing UM, and know for certain that his TV contract is nowhere near a coaching contract. Typically in the situation where coaches are filling these kind of positions, their contracts give them "outs" in the event they receive another coaching offer. On top of that, for those kind of expert analyst jobs, they usually give year-by-year contracts anyway, in case chemistry between hosts isn't right or they decide to retool and reformat the show from season to season. It's not like UM is a full time Fox guy covering NCAA Football, NFL, Baseball, Hockey, etc. If he was, that would be different, but he's just a College Football guy.

I'm about 65% sure the town on the GPS map is Round Rock.

Careful, that sounds an awful lot like aggy talk when they were courting the Hobbit.. Funny. That's exactly what I thought when I read that.

Man I tell you, I should just keep my mouth shut on this whole deal because I've known the Kruse family my whole life. Prior to the listeria situation, there was a big split in the Kruse family that led to one of the original 2 brothers who ran the company and made the brand what it was, to be basically forced out by Paul, who is the other brother's son. What Paul did to his uncle, that company, and to the town of Brenham for that matter, in just a few short years was damn near fatal. People don't know the whole story and never will, but Paul Kruse was such a cancer there. I try not to wish ill on anyone, but I want to see Paul have to answer for what he did. To pay for basically rebuilding all of their factories, they sold a huge share of the company, reportedly about a third, to Sid Bass.

Such a gut punch. I listened to his music pretty much my entire life. How could you not if you grew up in Texas? One of the coolest things that I ever got to experience was cruising out to Luckenbach on a beautiful Sunday afternoon some time in the 90s, strolling up to the Post Office/Bar and buying a cold Lone Star from Marge(RIP), then turning around to the big oak tree and seeing Jerry Jeff just sitting there on a picnic table bench strumming his guitar and singing for about 15 people. That was back when they still had beer tabs all over the ground. What a moment. RIP Jerry Jeff Walker.

Is there a thread to talk about how much Bon Jovi sucks?
Hairy Biped replied to Paul Wesley's topic in Music
I know a guy who used to work for Kramer Guitars back in the day. He was a painter and his primary job in the mid to late 80s was to paint and help assemble artist models for the endorsees. At that time there were countless big bands/artists that endorsed Kramer, from Van Halen and Motley Crue, to the Jackson family and even Johnny Cash, who happened to be very close friends with the company's majority owner. But aside from EVH, Richie and Jon were undeniably Kramer's premiere endorsement. According to my friend, no other band received more product from them than Bon Jovi did, and when they would come in to either discuss what they wanted or pick up their guitars, they treated everybody in the building, including the management, like shit and would say stuff suggesting that they should own the company because they are the reason people buy Kramers. That pissed my buddy off so much that eventually he refused to paint or build anymore guitars for Bon Jovi, so management would have to lie to him about who the guitars were for. One time, based on the designs requested, he figured out that it was for JBJ and RS, so he decided to give them a little something extra. He jacked-off into the paint, mixing his DNA in real good, and used that same paint on guitars for both of them. He said that they used them in music videos and heavily in one of there big tours, never knowing they were holding his jizz in their hands. He has about as red hot of hatred for JBJ as anyone could. As a topical side story to this, the same guy worked with Eddie Van Halen a lot during that same time period. He said despite the fact that EVH was usually high or drunk when he came in, he always went out of his way to be cool to everybody at Kramer and was very appreciative of what they did for him. He would walk through the factory and give out VH tickets or albums or autographs, whatever people wanted. -
As was mentioned, there has only been one death from coral snakes in more than 40 years, since the development of a antivenin. Typically coral snakes are docile and prefer to run away rather than fight, but if they don't feel threatened, they are sometimes very curious and that behavior has been misconstrued as aggression on occasion. Their venom delivery takes place towards the back of their mouth and those fangs are rather short, and their mouths are fairly small. Most corals are smaller snakes in general, but the larger ones could very well envenomate a human in the right circumstances. Their venom is a neurotoxin, almost exactly the same as a King Cobra, and requires treatment ASAP. The last known fatality occurred in 2006, when 2 men were handling the snake and the victim didn't seek treatment after being bitten. The other man was bitten too, but not envenomated. Of the 4 species of venomous snakes in the US, I would venture to guess that more people have been killed by rattlesnakes in the past 10-15 years, than all others put together since those records have been kept. Long story short, as far as coral snakes go, don't start no shit, there won't be shit. Also, rattlers are a hell of a lot more likely to fuck your shit up.

Sitting here in my condo rental in Port A wondering if I should leave tomorrow or stay until Monday morning as originally planned. As of 8pm tonight (Saturday) the beaches have been closed. The water really started rising about 4pm and chased us off the beach. We didn't want to get ourselves into a situation like the people in that Surfside video. I'm guessing by Monday, if not sooner, the ferry will be shut down. It's crazy that the water has come up so much considering that the storm is still so far away. I've been down here when a few storms have rolled in and I've never seen anything like this where the surge comes up so high, with the storm still so far out.
