  1. Excellent and correct explanation.
  2. Trying to find quotes/ info about LSU being swept, but could not. Did read they did not return to Baton Rouge and are likely in the ATX as we speak. Below are conference stats. We lead in hitting (.316) and pitching (3.12) but just starting challenging part of conference schedule. https://www.secsports.com/sport/softball/stats

D1 Chat Is Texas A&M back in the NCAA Tournament discussion after a sweep of South Carolina? I think so! Hi Eric -- the Aggies are definitely back in the discussion after finding a way to take that series at Tennessee and then doing what they really needed to do this weekend, which was sweep South Carolina. It wasn't easy, but they got it done. Now at 6-9 in the SEC and inside the top 50 in the RPI, they're definitely alive for an at-large spot, but they're gonna have to really earn it with series left at Arkansas and at Texas the next two weeks, with other series looming vs. LSU and at Georgia. That's grueling, but if they survive it and get to 12 or 13 SEC wins, they'll probably get in. Hey Fitt, just curious if you’re still selling that Texas stock you were two weeks ago? I’m sure there’s a few people who’d take it off your hands lol. All kidding aside, is Texas the favorite to win the SEC now? The schedule down the stretch is pretty favorable compared to Arkansas, Georgia and LSU. Ha! Is it too late to buy some of that stock back? I'm afraid the ship has sailed and I'm left holding the bag -- I blame my panic on the tariffs (and on Max Belyeu's injury, obviously). So very impressed with the way Texas has weathered the Belyeu injury and also the A-Rod injury, although it's good to see Rodriguez back now. I'm a convert; these Horns just have that it factor. They just win. And obviously they are very talented too, but man that grit is a separator. how about the Aggies this past weekend. Crazy weekend for the Aggies. Now it gets real again this weekend with a quick road trip to Arkansas followed by a series at Texas, and of course, LSU at home. What a hellacious three-week stretch for the Aggies, but there's no doubt this offense is clicking right now. As much as Caden Sorell's return has meant to this team, I'd argue the emergence of Bear Harrison has been as important. He's hitting north of .400 in SEC play with premium power. I still have some serious concerns about A&M's bullpen however. If Texas can hit 17 wins in the SEC, does that guarantee a Top 8 seed? If Texas only wins 17 league games, it would mean it finished the season pretty poorly. The Longhorns are already at 13 league wins and have 15 conference games left. So, I like the Longhorns' chances of eclipsing that 17-win mark. As for their case as a whole, looking to be in a very strong position for a top 8 seed down the stretch. Those guys just keep getting pieces to step up in big situations. Yesterday, it was Grayson Saunier being thrust into the action and delivering. Any realistic chance Oklahoma can fall and not be a host? SEC is loaded with locked-up hosts already. Of course. RPI is 25 and the Sooners still have Georgia, Ole Miss and Texas on the menu as opponents the remaining few weeks. Win two or all three of those series and the Sooners most definitely will be strongly in the hosting discussion. What’s a regional matchup you want to see? If I could setup the postseason perfectly, I would have Texas A&M go to TCU as a two or three seed, and have that regional paired with Texas. Better have the popcorn ready. How much of a threat is Auburn to host a Super? Feels like they’re on a good run right now but I think fans should hope to host a regional and be pleasantly surprised if they do better than that. Or do you view this squad as a legit CWS threat? Bryan -- if Auburn can consistently pitch the way it did against a very solid LSU lineup this past weekend on the Plains, there's no doubt the bar for this Auburn team is a trip to Omaha, and potentially even more. I'm intrigued to see how they pitch (on the road) against Texas this weekend. Does UTSA have an at-large bid locked up already? UTSA is in very very good shape right now with a 23 RPI and a dominant league record thus far. That's a scary, scary team, particularly offensively, in a regional, too
  4. Kentucky's announced starter for Sunday is not your typical Sunday starter with the best stats on the team for their starters. LHP Ben Cleaver, Soph, 2.36 ERA, .086 WHIP Seems he just became Sunday starter 2 series ago, will be his 9th start. https://ukathletics.com/sports/baseball/cumestats/season/2025/
  5. Interesting theory.
  6. https://stats.statbroadcast.com/statmonitr/?id=565515 8 hits, 18k's We are 4th worst in SEC with K's behind Ga, Ole Miss, and Mizzou. As mentioned above, need to put ball in play.
  7. AAS story explaining Weekly's strategy. Apparently, the norm as was also used vs OU. Among the negatives, it deprives fans of seeing a matchup of two premier pitchers. Game 3 does not have the aura of Game 1. (excerpts)
  8. We beat Pickens 2-1 last year in Clearwater. 6 hits, 1 run unearned. Early season, everyone normally improves. Besides speed, she can keep the ball low and has excellent movement. Probably the best we have faced since Canady. Remember this Tenn team took 2/3 from OU in Norman after inexplicably losing 2/3 to Ark the weekend before. They are 7-5 in conference and seem to be inconsistent but realize they need this series. Only hitting .239 in conference. Gets real with Tenn, LSU, and OU the next 3 weekends.
  9. Wow ! They lead the league with 88. We have 28. They also have 70 SBs in 30 games. Galvan will be tested, though we have 2 LH starters to offset that. Schloss makes an interesting comment in the OB vid with Zach Symms. Doesn't worry about the catcher's arm as much as the pitcher's motion. Having a super year. Happy for him. Also, seems to be blocking the ball much better. Need to erase my doubts. Coaching... SEC Stats https://www.secsports.com/sport/baseball/stats

Pertinent chat notes. Not much Texas info. Note they think 13 SEC wins qualifies for the postseason. I know we pounded Missouri pretty pretty hard this weekend, but doesn't Texas deserve to be #1. They have better series wins and I for one don't want the #1 Albatross hanging around our collective necks We debated Texas vs. Arkansas for the top spot quite a bit, and our staff was split pretty evenly -- but also, all of us saw a case for the other team as well. UT has those two super-loud series wins at home (2/3 vs LSU, sweeping Georgia), but Arkansas also has two quality series wins against ranked teams on the ROAD (at Ole Miss, sweeping Vandy), and doing that on the road is also pretty loud. I think their resumés are actually very close, and we already had the Hogs ranked higher so it made sense to me just to slide them up a spot. But if we had gone with Texas based on the LSU and Georgia series wins, I would have had no issue with that either. Not saying we're back, but boy was that a gust of fresh air on Saturday. Will 13 SEC wins cut it this year to make the playoffs, or will the selection committee be more harsh with the bigger conferences this year? What is your gut feeling for minimum wins for the at-large SEC teams? If A&M gets to 13 league wins, it will definitely make the field, IMO, because the Aggies would have had to beat some mammoth RPI teams to get to that point. Your RPI would probably be closer to 20 than it would be 50 at that stage of the game. Saturday's performances were mighty impressive, namely with Sorrell raking and Bear Harrison coming into his own. But let's see the Aggies put together two-straight solid weeks, and then we can have a discussion about turning the corner. A step forward? Sure. that's it for now. Seeing a lot of West Coast kids commiting/playing on SEC schools, has this always been the case and I am now noticing? Or is NIL grabbing the best of the West and bringing them out to the SEC for $, better atmospheres, better facilities, etc... Tim -- It's definitely more prominent than it once was. I do think realignment will help the West Coast schools keep some of those kids at home, but the fact of the matter is outside of Oregon State, the atmospheres and facilities in conferences like the SEC, ACC and Big 12 are better. That is going to lead to more and more kids from out that direction heading East to play college baseball. LSU's Pitching staff and just their overall outlook as a team right now. (0 ER over the weekend is insane btw) Kendall touched on this above, but I'll go a step further: I am really in on this LSU team. I love the length and variety in their lineup, and obviously you have to be excited about the sheer talent in their rotation, but also in the bullpen. I know there have been occasional bumps along the way with that pitching staff, but I think those are expected growing pains with young arms, and jeez they're still sitting there at 30-3! Was there any discussions around UTSA for a top 25 spot? Pat Hallmark's squad is looking really good and has a RPI inside the top 30. Hunter -- The Roadrunners still have some work to do. I actually really like UTSA's offense overall, but getting run-ruled twice against DBU a couple of weeks ago kind of soured us a bit on UTSA from a Top 25 standpoint. That series sweep over FAU does look a little louder now after seeing the Mac's team did against ECU last weekend. How about the job Jim Schlossnagle has done at Texas! That guy can coach and has won everywhere! Schloss really has done a great job with this team. It's not easy to get a team to immediately buy into your way of doing things and culture, but it seems like the Longhorns' players were eager to see some improved structure. In addition to Jim, I feel like pitching coach Max Weiner once again is doing a phenomenal job with a pitching staff. He's the pitching whisperer, for sure. Really impressed with those guys across the board. They didn't skip a beat without AR and MB this past weekend. Do you think A&M can build off this past weekend, or do you feel like it was a one-day doubleheader aberration? Chris -- we shall see. I don't take much from the weekend other than A&M is still fighting and hasn't thrown in the towel. The one thing I did really like about A&M is that Bear Harrison is getting into a groove offensively and Caden Sorrell did Caden Sorrell things. If those two are going to hit like that, that lineup has very few holes now. Even Ben Royo is making some offensive strides. Is Oklahoma a regional host? Or are they finally getting exposed for a weak schedule? OU is not out of the hosting mix, but it really needs to win that series against Vandy. Sitting at 5-7 in the league, if you win that series, you gotta feel like you'll do well against Missouri the following weekend. So, this series for me is a swing series for the Sooners. RPI is still in a good spot at 18 -- but league record, as of today, is an issue. Does Michael Earley lose his job if the Aggies somehow make it into the postseason? If the Aggies make the NCAA tournament, I would be willing to bet money he's back. That would mean the Aggies likely won series against two of Arkansas, Texas, LSU and Georgia. That would be a pretty strong way to finish the regular season and make the NCAA tourney. I'm still not a believer until I see much more from the Aggies outside of one day.

Chat notes (excerpts). Georgia will be a challenge this weekend. Georgia showed it could score in different ways other than the HR this weekend even without usual speed in their lineup from Phelps and Black. Seems like a good omen before heading to the Disch. They also pitched really well once again with the new role for Curley and finally having a healthy Kolten Smith who was supposed to start opening day. The bullpen is still as good as anyone in the country. Yeah I like the way those pieces are coming together on the mound -- I've been saying all year that I thought it was only a matter of time until Georgia's pitching came together and became high-end, because they are super deep. I share your enthusiasm for the bullpen now that Kolten Smith looks like himself again. I remain really, really high on this Georgia club. Percent chances that Texas A&M makes a regional? Terry -- I'd put it at about 25%. Any team with that much talent can go on a run, but on our Podcast this morning, I had the Aggies getting swept at Tennessee, sweeping Missouri, taking 2/3 from South Carolina and taking one each from Arkansas, Georgia, LSU and Texas. That would still only get the Aggies to 10 conference wins. That's not going to come close, especially considering the relatively poor non-conference slate. Guys My tier 1 elite teams in the SEC rote now is Tenn Arkansas Georgia Texas, good gosh the dawgs look 4 real. Always great content fellas Thanks !!!! Yup I think that's certainly the top tier, but I'd also include LSU in that tier, even though it is a game behind in the standings and lost the head to head series at UT. Those teams have separated themselves from the pack for me. Alabama has proven it can play with anybody but for me their roster is just a tick behind those top five. Texas vs. Georgia in Austin this weekend. Might be too early to say this, but is this a potential series with top-8 national seed implications? Most certainly it is given where the two teams are in the Top 25 Rankings right now (and in the RPI). I think it's more likely right now that both teams are in the Top 8, however, at season's end. I probably lean Texas at home in this one, but I do want to see what the prognosis is with Belyeu, Rodriguez and Galvan before making an official prediction. As important as Max and Adrian are to that team, Galvan is the heartbeat. Can you advise as to when the next set of post season projections will be released ? Thanks for the hard work all you guys do to keep us up to date on the world of college baseball Midseason projections are coming out this week! We'll be Nerdcasting tomorrow to sort out the field Has the game passed Tim Tadlock by? I definitley don't think the game has passed Tim Tadlock by just yet, but it's abundantly clear that Texas Tech has gotten away from its roots a bit. This is a program that was built on high-flying, powerful offenses, and I just feel like Texas Tech has lost its identity to some degree from an offensive standpoint. I also think the Red Raiders have struggled on the mound for a few years now. I really like Tad but at some point, you have to look at the program in the mirror and figure out what the weak links are and deal with them. I think that time has come ... once and for all. Is Clemson being punished for beating Nationally Ranked teams in back to back weeks? Can't imagine you keep Texas behind them after last week and jump them after this one. No one was punished. Clemson merely just stayed where it was. No increase, no drop, which is pretty common for a week like that. The biggest thing about those two teams is this: 1) I think Texas is slightly better than Clemson overall. I've seen both teams. 2) I think Texas' consistency needs to be rewarded. It has been excellent the last few weekends. Both really good teams, but that's where our heads are out at the moment. Where will the D1 boys be attending this weekend? Kendall I assume you're in ATX? I'll be there for the Saturday game for sure. really looking forward to seeing Georgia since I've already seen the Longhorns a few teams. Ultra impressed with what the Bulldogs have done offensively so far this season. Intrigued to see UGA's pitching stacked up against UT's. Similar to the Miss State question, could the Aggies move on from Earley in season? They desperately need to get something going now.. A&M will not move on in the middle of the season. As I said on X, though, I do believe that if things trend the current way they are, they will reevaluate things at the end of the season. Frankly, I don' think there's anyone, including Michael Earley, who would be surprised by a change if things continue down the current path. Mike is a great dude and a very talented hitting coach, but this season is the measuring stick. No ifs or buts about it.

Few notes from the D1 Chat. Last comment, when Kendall starts doubting you know things are serious. I do think with their starting pitching aggy can make a comeback (hope not). How many of Florida, Texas A&M, and Virginia make the field of 64, and could any of them get back into the hosting discussion? This feels like the biggest question of the first six weeks of the season: are these teams all toast? I know I'm a broken record early in the season, when I try to exercise as much patience as possible -- but after six weeks, teams are starting to become who they actually are. That said, every year we see teams that look dead after six weeks go on to rise from the ashes and make it to regionals, or to Omaha, or even win it all (see: Ole Miss 2022, UVa 2015). So I am STILL not writing off any of these teams, and I think at least two of the three will still be in regionals (my level of confidence in them over the long haul is UVa, then Florida, then A&M). What a weekend of baseball in Austin. What impressed you the most about Texas this weekend in that series win over LSU? Also, really felt like we were seeing a future Friday night SEC matchup with Evans and Volantis both dealing at the same time Sunday. You agree? BT - You know, I kind of like the way you view the latter in this series. That's a fantastic point. I'm just so impressed with Volantis' poise and overall stuff and approach. He's like a 25 year old in an 18 year old's body. It's ultra impressive. I think the biggest thing that stood out to me was just the sheer # of fantastic at bats by Texas the final two days of the series. Schloss' Horns MADE LSU throw strikes, and that paid dividends. Obviously, Riojas was pretty special throughout the weekend. The Texas bullpen doesn't have a massive margin for error, but I really do love everything else about this squad. What exactly should we make of the mid-week games, particularly the upsets? For RPI they all count the same, but you guys don't seem to consider them as much for ranking purposes, and it sometimes feels like the coaches/teams themselves don't even take them quite as seriously as a proper weekend series.. Yeah they just aren't as important as weekend games — but that doesn't mean they are irrelevant. They are a piece of the pie, and as you point out, the RPI treats all games the same. Plenty of teams have built their postseason resumés on the strength of midweek excellence against quality competition. But ultimately our game is about winning weekend series, and that's what we will always value most. Guys is Texas better then we thought or is Lsu not as Deep in Depth as we thought they were ? Awesome job always fellas Thanks. I think some of my colleagues are less excited about the length of the LSU lineup, and perhaps have some questions about the bullpen. Personally, I don't really share those concerns -- I like the lineup depth just fine, and there's so much talent in that bullpen, I expect it to get better and better in the second half as some of those exciting young arms really come into their own. Credit Texas -- I do think the Horns are better than I gave them credit for (speaking only for myself). Of the three 0-6 SEC teams, which one stands the best chance to make it to NCAA Regional action? I think it's the Gators. They'll get healthier eventually, and in the meantime, at least they're not below .500 overall like A&M is, somehow. At 18-8, Florida is starting from a better position here. I still think the Gators will find a way to get to at least 13 or 14 SEC wins. Lot of work to do, and it needs to start now, but they are better than this. What's wrong with Texas A&M and Florida? Eric -- Both teams have some injuries, but it's abundantly clear that Florida has very limited, reliable options, at this point, outside of Peterson, King and maybe a couple of others. The talent is there for sure, but the proof is in the pudding as they say. As for A&M, 49 strikeouts in a three-game series is only acceptable if Paul Skenes is pitching all three games of the series for the other team. The starting pitching continues to get it done for A&M. Rice won a game on the road to open conference play. The boys look happier, more free and Pierce is beaming and this is before the win. Do you think Pierce can really turn things around? I don't think DP is totally flipping the script this spring, but I think he can set the foundation for a much better Rice program moving forward. It looked like the Owls (Rice) actually played much better overall against a good FAU team over the weekend. This is going to be considered a soft take, but Earley. Yes coaches get paid a lot, yes coaching is brutal, etc. etc. But he is such a nice guy it seems with a lovely family and young children...just hate what is happening in College Station. Could this rough start end a head coaching career that just started? In real numbers (terms of wins and losses) what will it take for him to keep his job? Kendall Rogers 2:05 I have a great relationship with Mike, but it's also our job to be honest. I do think if A&M fails to make the NCAA tournament and stinks down the stretch, they will cut bait after a season. That's my educated take at this point. With that said, there is a VERY long way to go to get to that point. I'm not throwing the towel in on those guys just yet. That's just foolish at this stage
