  1. None at all. I drove it for at least 5 years and probably close to 100K. I sold it to a father for his son at minimal value. I really don't know, but do some research on value of vehicles with salvage titles. Only 2K under market value may be a little high, I don't really know. May want to check KBB and Edmunds to see if any info on salvage title. But do try to get more info on the actual damage and repair. The fact the airbags did not deploy is a good sign, though there may have been extensive/expensive damage to warrant the salvage determination. Or perhaps the owner received a favor from the insurance agent.
  2. https://www.txdmv.gov/motorists/buying-or-selling-a-vehicle/title-check-look-before-you-buy/rebuilt Check the above link from Texas DMV and may want to google subject for further info. I purchased a Honda CRX with a rebuilt title many years ago. It had been rebuilt by the owner of an Auto Repair Shop that I fully trusted. It had a current registration and inspection. Advice is to be cautious. Definitely have the frame inspected. Since the seller is your employee, somewhat of an unusual situation. You may want to ask him for references from his previous customers and for a limited type warranty if you think appropriate without affecting your relationship. Also, it may be possible to obtain more info on the accident and actual damage/repair.
  3. Steamboat the prophet post on 8 Aug. Needville will play in the US Championship Game, Saturday, 2:30, ABC.
  4. Vic met the media yesterday. Worth 25min of your time. Note at about 6:00 he discusses posting the Louisville score in the locker room. At about 11:30 discusses taking selfies with team at first day of class. Injury updates and expectations included. Very difficult to not like this guy. Summary from AAS: Schaefer met with the local media for about 25 minutes on Tuesday. As he prepares for his fourth season at UT, he gave positive updates for Aaliyah Moore and Jordana Codio, who are both rehabbing knee injuries. He shared that sixth-year guard Shaylee Gonzales has recently been given "Grandma" as a nickname. He also discussed why he has made it a tradition to take photos with his players on their first day of class each year. Schaefer said that Texas won't begin practicing until the end of September. By then, six months will have passed since UT was beaten by Louisville in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Not that the Longhorns will be able to forget that 73-51 loss. Several printouts of that score have been placed around the team's practice gym and facility. Schaefer said he borrowed the redecorating idea from his time at Mississippi State. To end the 2015-16 season, Mississippi State was beaten by 60 points by UConn in the NCAA Tournament. The following year, Mississippi State upset UConn in the Final Four. "We put the number 60 all over our facility, on my desk, in our locker room, on the bathroom stall when you shut it, in the weight room, anywhere, in the elevators, on the stairwell," Schaefer said. "It only works if it works, right? But it's not OK. At the end of the day, it's not OK. It wasn't OK then, and it's not OK here. And obviously that (Mississippi State) team 365 days later had another opportunity at the same team in the Final Four and found a way to win. They had remembered and it was a completely different approach. "Hopefully this team will embrace that same attitude. I believe they have just from their work ethic, what I've seen this summer, the time that they put in.”

  11. Pretty good article. Read that Steinbrenner will keep Cashman - hopefully that will change. Yankees' trade bust is another example of mismanagement (empiresportsmedia.com) It is no secret that the New York Yankees are currently in a troubling phase, desperately striving to redirect their course. Regrettably, they must endure the remainder of a lackluster 2023 season, epitomized by a 9th-inning blown save against the Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon. Factors Contributing to the Demise of World Series Hopes The unfortunate truth lies in the poor roster construction, injuries, and inconsistency from the Yankees’ high-priced veterans, all of which have crushed any dreams of a World Series triumph. Mismanagement of Finances and Trades With General Manager Brian Cashman squandering hundreds of millions of dollars annually and making poorly-judged trades, a likely shift in strategy is looming. Over the past few seasons, the Yankees have leaned on analytics for support, something Cashman uses to shield himself. Managerial Dilemma Manager Aaron Boone may be singled out as the season’s fall guy, but the Yankees are compelled to make wiser decisions and capitalize on significant acquisitions. Though Cashman has been skillful in scouting lowkey bullpen arms, he has fumbled acquisitions like Josh Donaldson, Frankie Montas, and Carlos Rodon, leading to dissatisfaction within the ownership. Focus on Montas and His Impact on the Yankees Focusing on Montas, who will likely miss the 2023 season due to shoulder surgery, we find a case of medical oversight. Acquiring Montas despite his ongoing injury culminated in a season-long absence. Cashman’s interest in Luis Castillo and Cody Bellinger reveals a pattern of failure akin to playing Russian roulette. Montas’ trade may be marked as one of Cashman’s gravest mistakes, evidenced by his alarming statistics after moving from the Oakland Athletics. Increased walks and home runs with the Yankees seem to be the continuation of the team’s bad luck. Cashman leveraged one of his top pitching prospects, Ken Waldichuk, in exchange for Montas with one year left of control. With the perception of the Yankees’ farm system, it’s safe to say Waldichuk could’ve been used more efficiently for an offensive piece. Financial Risks and Their Consequences Cashman may argue that misfortunes like Andrew Benintendi’s downfall and Montas’s injury post-acquisition were mere bad luck. However, consuming $50 million from Josh Donaldson’s contract at age 35 was a massive gamble. Sound teams avoid such pricey risks, and the Yankees will be burdened with paying Donaldson beyond the 2023 season. The Road to Recovery: Investing in Young Prospects A possible escape from this predicament commences with exploring the potential of the Yankees’ younger prospects. The Yankees have mishandled their prospects, such as Estevan Florial, Oswald Peraza, and Deivi Garcia, who was picked up by the Chicago White Sox. Mismanagement extends to trading Ezequiel Duran for Joey Gallo, although Clayton Beeter’s acquisition is a positive note. Duran’s performance with the Texas Rangers exemplifies what the Yankees missed out on. The Need for Youthful Energy and Smart Investments A colossal effort is required to guide the Yankees back to success. The intelligent move would be to rejuvenate the current roster with youth, utilizing minor-league prospects — the team MUST see what the future holds. The Yankees cannot remedy every problem with financial muscle, especially as other teams are now adept at finding value through smart decisions and player evaluations. Lessons from Competitors: Tampa Bay Rays Examining the Tampa Bay Rays reveals an elite team constructed on just a fraction of the Yankees’ budget. Steinbrenner must be contemplating how to achieve more with less, a notion that is entirely feasible but unlikely under Cashman’s administration.
  12. May want to invest in an Apple Watch which can monitor her heart rate and also provide an EKG. Apple Watch readings are accepted by most doctors. At her doctor's appt, inquire about wearing a holter monitor or Zio patch for a cotinuous period. This will give a thorough eval of her heart. And as you mention, blood test especially for the thyroid. May want to slow down on the strenuous exercise until the doctor's appt. Best to You and your Family.
  13. Nice story about Janae. WPF has 4 teams with quality players (USSSA Pride (Fl), SIS Vipers (NY), Spark (Ok), and Texas Smoke. To be selected player of the year is quite an honor. https://wprofastpitch.com/ (excerpts) In her first year with the Texas Smoke, the former Longhorn was selected as the Women's Professional Fastpitch Player of the Year. The infielder slashed .438/.523/.580 leading the Smoke to the playoffs in their debut as a team. Since graduating, the Texas-ex has played for the U.S. national team and conducted a variety of camps across the nation between workouts in her hometown of Humble just north of Houston in order to supplement her salary with the Smoke. One of Jefferson's hopes is to earn a contract in Japan, one of the only leagues in the world that offers a sustainable salary as a professional softball player. https://www.statesman.com/story/sports/college/longhorns/softball/2023/08/10/former-texas-longhorns-if-janae-jefferson-wins-softball-player-of-the-year-with-smoke/70565767007/
  14. Miss St boards had mentioned this the past 2 weeks. Besides NIL, the link was Chuck Box, aggy Director of Player Development and former renown high school coach in Mississipi, who apparently had an excellent relationship with Montgomery.
  15. Congrats to Needville for defeating Ascension Parish (Gonzales) La 5-3 to advance to Williamsport. As Steamboat mentions above, very well played game especially since Ascension had to play one extra game to advance to the finals. LLWS will be from 16-27 August.
  16. Texas East (Needville) vs Louisiana (Gonzales), 12PM*, 8 Aug, ESPN, for a trip to Williamsport. Gonzales is about half way between BR and NO. Gonzales had to play an extra game in defeating Tulsa 8-7. Needville is rested and ready and defeated Gonzales 3-0 Sunday. * - verify 12PM start. Saw other times reported.
  17. If anyone is awake, SB (Flores, Galvan, Belyeu) from the NBC World Series in Wichita (live).
  18. LLB Southwest Region Tournament - Little League Schedule for Southwest Region which started today in Waco. As Huckleberry states above, Needville won Texas East, Midland Northern Texas West. All games on LHN.
  19. Do you know if there is an NCAA rule on how many coaches can be in the dugout ? A cursory google search provided no info.
  20. Anyone familiar with David Rosenberg, former Chief Economist at Merrill Lynch ? Prophet of Doom ? Lengthy article, but worth the read. Excerpts: People are trying to fit the macro narrative into what’s been happening in the stock market. The stock market doesn’t always tell you what’s happening with the economy. It might be telling you about sentiment and market positioning and technicals, but it’s the same stock market that was telling you in October 2007 that we were going to have unbridled growth. The recession started two months later. Right now the stock market has become a get-rich-quick scheme like it was during the meme-stock mania two years ago. The stock market today is not a vehicle to raise capital. Companies buy back stock to make their shareholders wealthy. The stock market is operating on momentum and fund flows and sentiment and technicals. Investors now are bowing down to the holy grail of price momentum. To suggest to me that the stock market is telling us something about the economy is just laughable. Is anybody that foolish or ignorant of history to suggest that we’re in a resting spot — that we’ll still be talking about a soft landing this time next year? The question is will we stay in the soft landing? Of course not. This is the most credit-driven economy in history. It’s been completely reliant on low interest rates for so long, sucking at the teat of the central-bank balance sheet. The Fed started a tightening policy in March 2022. There’s a lag. People who are saying this is a soft landing and so there’s no recession — those will be the people wiping egg off their face. Companies have been loath to lay off people out of fear that in the next cycle they won’t be able to find them again. That was one of the scars from COVID and the lockdown, and the ridiculous way the government dealt with the situation, which was to pay people more money to be unemployed and then extending those jobless benefits well into the recovery. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/no-chance-were-having-a-soft-landing-stock-market-strategist-david-rosenberg-gives-powells-fed-no-credit-and-no-mercy-52ea2ed6
  21. Encouraged that Galvan has caught the last 2 of 3 games where he needs work. SB has 6 games left before going to the NBC World Series (National Baseball Congress) at Wichita St's home field from Aug 3-12. Close to class start date assume he and Flores will travel. https://nbcbaseball.com/bids-announced/
  22. Surly Barons, your thoughts ? (Excerpts) Goldman Sachs expects record demand in oil markets to drive crude prices higher in the near term. “We expect pretty sizable deficits in the second half with deficits of almost 2 million barrels per day in the third quarter as demand reaches an all-time high,” Goldman’s head of oil research Daan Struyven told CNBC’s “Squawk Box Asia” on Monday. He added that the bank forecasts Brent crude to rise from just above $80 per barrel now to $86 per barrel by year-end. While Struyven acknowledged that U.S. crude oil production has risen significantly over the past year to 12.7 million barrels per day, he said that pace of growth will slow throughout the rest of 2023. “We expect U.S. crude supply growth to slow down pretty significantly to a sequential pace of just 200 barrels per day from here,” he said, pointing to the decline in rig counts. That metric, which tallies the number of active oil rigs, is used as an indicator of drilling activity and future output. The U.S. oil rig count recently hit its lowest level in 16 months, down 15% from its late 2022 peak, a recent Goldman report observed, citing data from Baker Hughes and Haver. Last week, Baker Hughes reported U.S. oil rigs fell by 7 to 530 the lowest since March 2022. https://www.cnbc.com/2023/07/24/goldman-sachs-expects-all-time-high-oil-demand-will-boost-prices.html
