Appreciate your comments. Based on the two Fall games you saw, thoughts on the other infield defense, Daly/O'Dowd/Thomas and Guillemette at catcher ? Thanks !

OPEC statement today: Seems to echo the statements by the oft criticized, but lovable @Porterhouse 🙂 (excerpts) OPEC raised its forecasts for world oil demand in the medium-and longer-term in an annual outlook released on Monday and said$12.1 trillion of investment is needed to meet this demand despite the energy transition. The view from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, in its 2022 World Oil Outlook, contrasts with that of other forecasters which see oil demand reaching a plateau before2030 due to the rise of renewable energy and electric cars. "The overall investment number for the oil sector is $12.1trillion out to 2045," OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais wrote in the foreword to the report, which said the figure was up from last year's estimate. "However, chronic underinvestment into the global oil industry in recent years, due to industry downturns, theCOVID-19 pandemic, as well as policies centred on ending financing in fossil fuel projects, is a major cause of concern. "OPEC made a shift in 2020 when the pandemic hit demand, saying it would eventually slow after years of predicting ever-increasing consumption. In the report, OPEC maintained its view that world demand will plateau after 2035.Other predictions from companies and banks see oil demand peaking earlier. The International Energy Agency on Thursday for the first time in its history of modelling said demand for all fossil fuels was set to peak, with oil demand levelling off in the middle of the next decade. The report said world oil demand will reach 103 million barrels per day in 2023, up 2.7 million bpd from 2022. The 2023total demand is up 1.4 million bpd from last year's prediction. OPEC also raised its demand forecasts for the medium term to2027, saying the figure is up by almost 2 million bpd by the end of the period from last year. It said the upward revision reflects a more robust recovery now seen in 2022 and 2023 and a "strong focus on energy security issues" leading to a slower substitution of oil by other fuels such as natural gas, whose price has soared due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. By 2030, OPEC sees world demand averaging 108.3 million bpd, up from 2021, and lifted its 2045 figure to 109.8 million bpd from 108.2 million bpd in 2021. The group had lowered the 2045projection over the last few years. OPEC and its allies, known as OPEC+, are again cuttingsupply to support the market. The report sees supply restraint continuing in the medium term, with OPEC output in 2027 lower than in 2022 as non-OPEC supply grows. Still, OPEC is upbeat about its later prospects, seeing its market share rising. U.S. tight crude supply is seen peaking after the late 2020s, rather than around 2030 last year. "Oil is expected to remain the number one fuel in the global primary energy mix," the report said. OPEC raises long-term oil demand view, calls for investment | Reuters

What's next for Yankees? Three key questions with futures of Aaron Judge, Aaron Boone uncertain after sweep - CBSSports.com Seems to be a good summary. Thoughts, @Helobious ? Hal Steinbrenner needs to grow a pair. His father would be ashamed. Cashman and Boone are very questionable. (excerpt) The Yankees are not the "World Series or bust" team under Hal Steinbrenner that they were under George. They can say whatever they want publicly. Their actions point to a team that prioritizes being good enough to get to the postseason and not much more, and if they run into a championship one of these years, great. Otherwise the postseason is too unpredictable to get hung up on the outcome of a short series.

21 -1 final. Speed, athleticism, small ball. No errors. Gutierrez needs experience but will contribute. Not shy, attacks the hitter. Lot of talent. Keeping ‘em all happy with PT may be a challenge. Need to find a leader in the infield like Janae, Bella has the outfield.

Saw this article today which may be beneficial to those with family members affected by Alzheimer's/ Dementia. Fortunately, my family has yet to be affected (knock on wood) but this article seems to offer good advice. Very lengthy, but worth the read. (excerpt) "Are you watching 60 Minutes?" she asked. I paused. I hadn't watched the news-magazine show in decades, but I knew it aired on Sunday nights, not Thursdays. I also knew how confused Alzheimer's had made my mother-in-law. But Alzheimer's had robbed her of her focus, and often her words. I knew how hard that was for her, how she became frustrated to the point of tears when she couldn't make herself understood. If she thought she was watching 60 Minutes on a night it wasn't on, I was not about to disagree with her. "Yes, I'm watching 60 Minutes!" I said instantly. It was the right answer. In a happy, satisfied voice, she said, "They're a nice couple, aren't they?" Couple? Who was the couple? Mike Wallace and Morley Safer? Weren't they dead? It didn't matter. "Yes!" I said. https://www.cnet.com/science/how-to-talk-to-a-loved-one-who-has-dementia-never-say-no/

Forgot to add this quote from the article. However, there have been calls from legislators to stop selling oil from what is meant to be a strategic reserve, to be used in a time of emergency. As inventories stand now, the U.S. would only have enough SPR oil for 22 days of consumption in case of an actual emergency. https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/Biden-Plans-To-Refill-The-SPR-When-Oil-Prices-Fall-Below-72.html

The Biden administration will start buying crude to replenish the strategic petroleum reserve when prices fall to between $67 and $72 per barrel, the White House said in a fact sheet. “As part of its commitment to ensure replenishment of the SPR, the DOE is finalizing a rule that will allow it to enter fixed price contracts through a competitive bid process for product delivered at a future date,” the statement also said. Kody had a grand slam last night. On Tuesday night, New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge smashed a home run into deep left field against the Texas Rangers to break Roger Maris’ American League single-season home run record. It was undoubtedly the biggest home run, and the sports story of the evening – but don’t tell that to the Detroit Tigers. During the top of the fifth inning, the Tigers found themselves trailing the Seattle Mariners by a score of 4-1. But Detriot third baseman Kody Clemens changed that with one swing of a bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Clemens sent a 1-2 pitch deep into right field to put the Tigers on top by a score of 5-4. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/mlb-world-reacts-as-detroit-tigers-hilariously-troll-aaron-judge/ar-AA12DNzU?ocid=winp2sv1plustaskbarhover&cvid=e153fbd9a7db4e848f2

Statesman article. Says State UIL can revisit after further investigation. Confusing ? ROUND ROCK — After more than a month of fighting for his team’s right to participate in the playoffs, San Marcos football coach and athletic director John Walsh had one immediate reaction when the UIL’s state executive committee allowed his team to compete in the 2022 postseason. “We have Samuel Clemens Friday night, so I get to go back to the school and coach for a playoff spot,” he said, referring to the Rattlers’ District 27-6A opener against Schertz Clemens this week in San Marcos. Of the playoff ban, he said, “It would have been unfair to punish those kids that had nothing to do with anything that was put out there.” What was “put out there” — a ruling by District 27-6A’s executive committee in August — included a two-year playoff ban for the San Marcos football program as well as a public reprimand for Walsh for recruiting violations. The district committee ruled by unanimous vote that Walsh’s program had recruited a group of youth football players from the San Antonio area to enroll at San Marcos High School as freshmen for this school year and join the school’s football program. The majority of those players for the Texas Seminoles youth football team live in the Judson school district just outside of San Antonio, but the group included students from various districts in the San Antonio area. More:LBJ football team rolls as RB Sedrick Alexander chases history San Marcos is an open enrollment school district that allows for transfer students, but transferring for athletic purposes violates UIL regulations. Despite the voiding of the postseason ban, Walsh and his staff didn’t go unscathed. At Monday's meeting, which lasted more than two hours, the UIL’s state executive committee upheld the public reprimand for Walsh and school district employee Earl Anderson and placed Walsh and the program on a three-year probation. While state committee members overturned the district committee’s postseason ban, they did say the state committee could revisit a possible playoff ban after eligibility hearings on the youth football players who do not live in the San Marcos school district but enrolled in San Marcos High School in the summer. UIL officials did not give a timeline for those hearings. “The preponderance of evidence tells me something happened,” said Charles Breithaupt, the UIL’s executive director, who joined UIL director of athletics Susan Elza and UIL deputy director Jamey Harrison as well as state executive committee members at the hearing. That concern was shared by committee members, who criticized the San Marcos program for not thoroughly vetting the incoming students as well as for allowing non-staff members such as Anderson to have too much access to the football program. Anderson, a star defensive lineman for San Marcos two decades ago, has children who compete in the athletic program for San Marcos and has long been a fixture at various athletic events in San Marcos. He described himself at the hearing as nothing more than an involved father who has no official ties to the San Marcos coaching staff or the Texas Seminoles youth football program. But the state committee members were also concerned about punishing current San Marcos varsity players for alleged violations by underclassmen who do not compete on the varsity. That concern proved that the system to appeal district committee decisions worked, Walsh said. “I’m appreciative of the process that the UIL has in place,” he said. “The burden of proof is on us, and I think they let us do that in a really fair setting.” Walsh said focusing on football will be a relief after the past month, even though UIL officials still plan to hold eligibility hearings for the 11 new San Marcos students who played for the Texas Seminoles. “I think our coaches and kids do a great job of creating that family atmosphere in our program, and we haven’t let the outside noise bother us one bit,” Walsh said. “Hopefully a little bit of positive noise we’ll let inside our brains and get a little boost.” San Marcos High football again eligible for playoffs after UIL hearing (statesman.com)

@Porterhouse @Storm the Field or anyone Thoughts ? excerpt: Summary Cuts could include Saudi voluntary reduction Largest cut since pandemic reduction Oil fell due to rising Fed rates, weak economy DUBAI, Oct 2 (Reuters) - OPEC+ will consider an oil output cut of more than a million barrels per day (bpd) next week, OPEC sources said on Sunday, in what would be the biggest move yet since the COVID-19 pandemic to address oil market weakness. The meeting will take place on Oct. 5 against the backdrop of falling oil prices and months of severe market volatility which prompted top OPEC+ producer, Saudi Arabia, to say the group could cut production. OPEC+, which combines OPEC countries and allies such as Russia, has refused to raise output to lower oil prices despite pressure from major consumers, including the United States, to help the global economy. Prices have nevertheless fallen sharply in the last month due to fears about the global economy and a rally in the U.S. dollar after the Federal Reserves raised rates. A significant production cut is poised to anger the United States, which has been putting pressure on Saudi Arabia to continue pumping more to help oil prices soften further and reduce revenues for Russia as the West seeks to punish Moscow for sending troops to Ukraine. https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/opec-consider-oil-output-cut-over-1-mln-bpd-sources-2022-10-02/

8-1 over St Mary's last night. Morgan started, Goode started at SS. 2-1 till the 9th. Good challenge, St Mary's has a solid DII program. Texas St on the 9th will also be a good barometer. Check TexasSoftball on twitter for a good replay. AUSTIN, Texas – On Friday night at Red & Charline McCombs Field, Texas softball improved its fall record to a perfect 2-0 by registering 16 combined hits while downing St. Mary's, 8-1 (10 inn.). Major Players Freshman infielder Leighann Goode (3-for-6, run, double, RBI); sophomore transfer utility player Baylea Brandon (3-for-4, double, RBI); sophomore utility player Vanessa Quiroga (2-for-3, two runs, double, two RBIs); redshirt freshman outfielder Ashton Maloney (2-for-5, three runs, walk, double); junior utility player Courtney Day (1-for-2, walk, RBI); junior infielder Camille Corona (1-for-2, run, RBI); freshman utility player Maddie Pomykalski (1-for-2, RBI); junior designated player Jordyn Whitaker (1-for-3, RBI) The Details After Texas left two stranded in the bottom of the first on a Brandon double to center and a Courtney Day walk, St. Mary's threatened by loading the bases against Longhorns sophomore transfer pitcher Mac Morgan in the second. The Creighton, Mo., native wasted little time battling her way out of the tough early jam, however, by registering two big strikeouts to leave the bags packed. The Rattlers eventually grabbed the lead against sophomore reliever Sophia Simpson during the top of the third as free passes and a Texas defensive miscue combined to grant St. Mary's a 1-0 advantage. The Burnt Orange & White answered right back in the bottom of the third to deadlock the contest at 1-1. Sophomore outfielder Mya Holmes kicked things off by drawing a leadoff walk. After Lou Gilbert fielder's choice, Goode stepped to the plate and launched a two-out, run-scoring double to center. A combination of Simpson, junior relievers Logan Hulon and Estelle Czech and freshman hurler Citlaly Gutierrez combined to quiet St. Mary's bats from adding any more runs to the board the rest of the way. With Maloney standing in scoring position, after a leadoff walk and a Corona sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the seventh, Pomykalski delivered a clutch single to center for a RBI to push Texas back in front, 2-1. Texas' offense finally erupted to take control of the game in the bottom of the ninth, plating four runs on six hits to boost its lead to 6-1. A Maloney leadoff double to left and RBI singles from Corona, Quiroga, Whitaker and Brandon combined to do the major damage for the Horns. UT finalized its offensive output at eight tallies during the bottom of the 10th on the strength of a Quiroga RBI double to left and Day's RBI base knock to center. 2022 Texas Softball Fall Schedule (all games at McCombs Field) Sat., Sept. 24 McLennan Community College TEXAS, 22-0 (12 inn.) https://texassports.com/sports/softball/roster '23 roster. Hailey Dolcini will be a grad asst. Article about McClennan game. Pitchers in order of appearance, Czech, Simpson, Hulon, Morgan, Gutierrez, Day AUSTIN, Texas – On Saturday afternoon at Red & Charline McCombs Field, Texas softball christened its 2022 fall season by banging out 24 hits, including 11 of the extra-base variety, and six pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout as the Longhorns rolled past McLennan Community College over 12 innings of action, 22-0. Major Players Sophomore transfer utility player Baylea Brandon (2-for-3, sac fly, double, five RBIs); freshman infielder Viviana Martinez (2-for-4, double, three-run HR, four RBIs); junior shortstop Alyssa Washington (3-for-6, sac fly, double, two RBIs); junior utility player Courtney Day (1-for-3, sac fly, double, two RBIs), sophomore third baseman Mia Scott (2-for-3, two walks, four runs scored, triple, RBI); redshirt freshman outfielder Ashton Maloney (3-for-6, three runs, two steals); junior designated player Jordyn Whitaker (2-for-5, double, two RBIs) The Details After a quick one-two-three first inning behind UT junior left-handed pitcher Estelle Czech, the Longhorns offense got right to work. Maloney kick-started the outburst by driving a leadoff single to left and quickly swiping second. With two in scoring position following a Scott base knock up the middle, a sacrifice fly from Brandon and a Day RBI double to left boosted UT in front, 2-0. A walk and a hit batter got McLennan CC in business against Czech during the top of the second. After a grounder moved the runners up 60 feet to second and third, Brandon and senior outfielder Lou Gilbert made consecutive grabs to leave the pair stranded on the base paths. Gilbert kicked-off Texas' second by beating out an infield single and advancing to second on an error. That set the stage for a Whitaker RBI as the Jacksonville, Texas, product hit a run-scoring two-bagger to center for a 3-0 advantage. Following a Maloney single up the middle and a Scott walk, Brandon laced a two-RBI single to center to make it 5-0. Sophomore pitcher Sophia Simpson entered the circle for the Burnt Orange & White starting the third and struck out three Highlanders over two strong innings of work. Texas added three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to stretch its advantage to a commanding 11-0. The effort was keyed in the fourth by a Brandon RBI single and consecutive sac flies from Day and Washington, while a Camille Corona RBI knock to left and pair of run-scoring groundouts highlighted the fifth. Facing UT junior reliever Logan Hulon in the top of the fifth, McLennan CC got two runners into scoring position courtesy of a walk, a passed ball, a single and a steal. A pitch got away behind the plate, but freshman catcher Katie Cimusz raced back to recover the ball and tossed to Hulon for the tag to preserve the shutout. Following a quiet sixth and a commanding top of the seventh inning of work from sophomore transfer reliever Mac Morgan, Texas' offense got back to work in the bottom of the frame. Scott did all the work herself by launching a one-out triple to left center before racing home on an errant pick-off attempt. With Texas already up 12-0 in the bottom of the eighth, freshman infielder Leighann Goode lifted the Longhorns offensive output to an even baker's dozen. The San Antonio, Texas, native started her efforts by launching a one-out double to right. She soon demonstrated her impressive speed on the base paths by hustling all the way around from second to score on a passed ball and boost the lead to 13-0. UT freshman hurler Citlaly Gutierrez took over in the circle and kept McLennan CC off the scoreboard by posting a combined two K's over a quiet ninth and 10th inning. In the bottom of the 10th after a Mya Holmes double to right center and a Vanessa Quiroga walk, Martinez stepped to the plate with two down and launched a three-run HR to right to make it 16-0. From there, Texas got two solid innings of relief work from Day and added a six-spot to the scoreboard in the bottom of the 11th to finalize its 22-0 score line. Holmes (sac fly), freshman utility player Maddie Pomykalski (double), Martinez (double), Washington (single) and Whitaker (single) all recorded single RBIs during the outburst. 2022 Texas Softball Fall Schedule (all games at McCombs Field) Sat., Sept. 24 McLennan Community College TEXAS, 22-0 (12 inn.) Good info, but you failed to mention he is 6'5"/230 and runs like a deer. We will miss Overshown in the first half. He has been intercepted and sacked alot likely for reasons you mention, but he is a leader and the team rallies around him. Kid is a baller.

WSJ article only mentions Ford and GM but others likely face same issues. Looks like higher prices will persist. (tl:dr: if buying a vehicle at present time and near future be prepared to pony up) Ford Motor Co. F 1.43%▲ on Monday warned third-quarter earnings would be affected by about $1 billion in higher-than-anticipated supplier costs and parts shortages that have led to unfinished vehicles it couldn’t sell during the period. The Dearborn, Mich., auto maker reaffirmed its year-end guidance for 2022, projecting adjusted operating results for the third quarter would fall between $1.4 billion and $1.7 billion. Ford’s stock was down nearly 5% in after-hours trading. Ford said it expects to have about 40,000 to 45,000 vehicles in inventory at the end of the quarter that are awaiting parts and can’t be delivered to dealerships—a figure that is higher than expected. Those vehicles, many of them higher-margin trucks and SUVs, are expected to be completed and sold in the fourth quarter, the company said Additionally, based on recent negotiations with suppliers, Ford said it is paying more for parts and materials to account for the effects of inflation. The higher payments added about $1 billion in unexpected costs in the third quarter, the company said. Ford said in July it was facing inflationary pressures that would affect a range of costs, totaling about $3 billion for the year. Ford has previously guided to adjusted earnings before interest and taxes of between $11.5 billion and $12.5 billion for full year 2022. The company’s notice is another indication that the supply-chain disruptions that have hindered the industry for more than a year now are continuing to weigh on auto-sector earnings. Other car companies are also struggling to restock dealerships, citing shortages of semiconductors and other critical parts that are needed to assemble cars and trucks. General Motors Co. said this summer it was unable to deliver nearly 100,000 vehicles to dealers due to parts shortages, including a lack of computer chips. GM posted a 40% decline in net income in the second quarter, hurt by a loss in China, as well as continued supply-chain snarls. Ford’s sales growth has outpaced competitors in recent months, mostly because its dealership inventory had been depleted in the prior year due to a factory fire in Japan at a critical computer-chip maker. Ford’s U.S. sales rose 27% in August, in contrast to a 5% decline for the broader auto industry. Inflationary pressures have pushed up raw-material costs, and Ford has raised sticker prices on some popular models, such as the electric Mustang Mach-E SUV and F-150 Lightning truck. Ford’s earnings have been helped by buyers willing to pay record prices for new vehicles because of limited car and truck availability. In the second quarter, the auto maker’s net income rose nearly 19% over the same-year period. Ford Warns Parts Shortages, Higher Supplier Costs Are Expected to Affect Earnings - WSJ
